I've lived in the main building for over a year. Really, it's an awesome place, especially for the…read morearea. These apartments are in a renovated historic building: the Ames Manufacturing building. Ames is primarily known for making swords during the Civil War. The exterior is original, and very well maintained. The interior features the massive wood beams. Location: The building is situated between the Chicopee River and the Canal (even with it's own walk along the canal.) It's centrally located to downtown Chicopee with good restaurants within a short walking distance. Often there are people fishing in the river (does not affect us but is cool to see). The Chicopee Canal Walk is across from the building and extends past the canal onto an easy walking trail alongside the Chicopee River. Four miles round-trip. The area is very safe. Amenities: Laundry facilities are on every floor and priced decently for coin-fed machines. The "gym" is very small. The only thing worth using in my opinion is the treadmills. It's also kept clean. There are two elevators. Also provided aregrocery carts which are very helpful after shopping, for taking recycling out, and for moving small things in. Garbage chutes on each floor drop to a trash compactor making disposal easy. Window air conditioners are provided free of charge for each apartment and must be installed by maintenance because of the historic regulations. If the unit breaks, maintenance either repairs or replaces the unit. (I just got a brand new one!) The leasing manager and maintenance staff are very friendly and helpful. Any issues are promptly handled and done right the first time. There's notices placed for any planned outages or services affecting tenants. The parking lot is plowed frequently during snow storms and the landscaping is well-kept. There is no waiting list for available apartments; it's all in the timing. The other tenants are friendly, say hello, hold doors and elevators. I've not met a single rude person yet. Some have been here for many years. Cons: Because of the historic aspect, there is only one door in and out of the apartment, into an interior hallway. Very pretty but somewhat reminds me of an upper scale extended stay hotel. There is no individual patio or porch so no grilling or outdoor plants. And because of the design, very few apartments can get much airflow as the windows (massive size) are all located on the same side. Another con is temporary but for the next 2 1/2 years so I must mention it. Currently one of the two ways to get into the parking lot is closed; it is the quickest on/off the highway. This is due to construction to rebuilt the Davitt Bridge across the Chicopee River. So for now all traffic must go through downtown. That can be adjusted to. However, depending on where the apartment is, construction noise begins, often quite loudly, at 7 AM sharp. The good thing about it is that there's no traffic worry upon exiting the parking lot as this is the only business/residence that needs access to the road.

This is the worst place you can possibly live in. The day I move will be the happiest day of my…read morelife. Management and maintenance are as useless as they come. The grounds are filthy. They do not vacuum or clean the hallways. I wash my windows all the time but it never shows as the outside of the windows are dirty. I do not know why they do not hire a company to wash windows like other buildings do. I keep my apartment clean but I am embarrassed to have people visit as the grounds are not kept up. Trash is all over, not only around the dumpsters but everywhere on the property. I would not want my worst enemy living here. Many times I know people, whether friends or acquaintances how it is living here. I tell them it is the worst and they DO NOT want to move here. They need to find a place that is beautiful and people are caring as you will not find that here. I got sick not long ago in the hallway. When I got to the ER they were wondering what was on me. It was from the rugs in the hall. If they are not going to even take care of the rugs then rip them up. WORST MISTAKE I MADE WAS MOVING HERE! NEVER AGAIN!!

Their maintenance of the property is outstanding! Not only are the lawns cut regularly, but today the maintenance crew were gathering up leaves with a leaf blower. Now, keep in mind, between the 3 buildings the property is well over the length of a football field and just as much wide. So we're talking thousands of leaves here. The time and effort put in to this shows just how much Witman Properties cares! The rent is really reasonable and the heating system (baseboard) is phenomenal! I have been in other homes and apartments with other heating systems and I have to say this is the best system I've seen and it has zone controls for each room! The people running this company are fantastic! When I first got here, the lights in the hallway of my building were out, so I put in a maintenance request thinking, oh, it'll be a while before they do anything. Uhhh...No! Those lights was fixed the next day. Witman properties sent put an electrician to fix whatever issue those lights had. And speaking of lights, the property is well lit all the way around all the buildings. Which is a nice thing when I walk my dog. Yes, they allow dogs and cats. I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone thinking of renting an apartment from this company! I know I will be here a long time, that's for sure!
