Location Location Location... it isn't different when picking a venue for your wedding! Picking a venue was definitely one of the hardest for us. I know FOR SURE I wanted a garden wedding. after many venues, we had our heart set on Calamigos Ranch... that was until we went to our LAST appointment.... the Castle Green! Growing up in Temple City and being so familiar with Old Town Pasadena, we never knew this hidden gem existed!! (neither did our guests, but everyone was so impressed!) It's very very old, but not in a dusty creepy way! Rather, in a very clean, tasteful and full of character way! The fountain with the kois and the squirrels and Magnolia trees.. everything is just perfect. We just had our March 2016 wedding a week ago and it was everything we envisioned and more! read more

(4.5 stars rounded up to 5) Our wedding reception took place at the historical Castle Green. My husband and I have often passed by the former hotel admiring it's coolness and beauty. When I got engaged two years ago, I spent a good few days researching SoCal venues and Castle Green was among my top 3. I booked them asap because they were the most easy-going, reasonably priced, its location was great and they were able to fit the number of people I planned on inviting (200). The rental fee includes 9.5 hours of property use for the vendors to set up and for your actual event. You get to use the entire first floor and outside lawn and they provide 20 round tables (seats 10 guests each) and 200 gold chiavari chairs. They provide you with a folder with all their information - from vendor recommendations, to preferred caterers (outside catering is $10/person), and all their policies. I mostly worked with Shannon and she was very professional, friendly and helpful. I do have to note that if you email her and do not get a reply in a day or two, to follow up with a phone call. Our cocktail hour and reception did not require a lot of decoration since the Castle itself is gorgeous and full of history. Our guests LOVED it and each room was adored! We had about 160 guests and they fit comfortably in the banquet hall for dinner and dancing. Our day was perfect and Castle Green added to the magic of it all :) read more

The place was a little disappointing. I looked up its website, and the pictures made it seem so gorgeous, but maybe because I had such high hopes for it, it wasn't as great as I'd thought. It was pretty though, but I definitely had my standards higher than that, so it had fallen just below threshold. It has its ups though, the website introduces the place in a majestic way, featured in a variety of films, and as soon as you step into the place, it was a flash back in time. The place has an antique feeling, but not eerie in any way. The fountain outside was nice though, spruced up the garden a little. The ballroom was average, though nicely decorated for the wedding, but without the decors, it was just a plain ballroom. The most inconvenient thing was parking. They have a few parking spots in the back, but that's reserved for the hosts and what not. You'll have to park at the meters outside. $0.25 per 20 minutes. But when those get filled up, you'll have to go to a parking garage, and if you know Old Town Pasadena..yeah enough said. Granted I wasn't the one that rented the place so it didn't cost me anything to rent it, but after seeing the wedding there, and looking up the costs and such.... I wouldn't choose this place. BUT, if you're at all interested in this place, DON'T look at the website pictures of the indoor structures and what not.. Just look up the address and GO there, or arrange to have a look around, because once you've seen the pictures, you'll be slightly disappointed with the actual thing. read more

Such a beautiful venue for a wedding. The castle is very well-preserved and taken care of. Had it not been for the bad experience with Layla, our tour guide, we may have even picked this place. Layla was very unwelcoming from the start. She didn't bother to introduce herself properly, and basically ignored my Fiancé. Out of the 15-20 venues I've visited throughout LA and Orange County, she was the only tour guide that made it seem like she would rather be somewhere else than giving us a tour. Towards the end she got extremely catty and rude when we asked her to clarify my path as a bride towards the ceremony site. Definitely not someone I'd trust with my big day. The experience was lacking in customer service and was the reason we crossed this place off the list read more

As a former resident and current owner (3rd floor represent!), I couldn't have been happier to find an eclectic mix of Victorian beauty with a house-on-haunted-hill vibe (said with 100% love), nestled in the middle of a largely commercial, Old Town, Pasadena. The character reflected off these hallways and corridors epitomize the phrase, "If these walls could talk..." Eccentric directors, the Father of Quantum Physics, writers, artists, all the way down to lowly marketing coordinators can appreciate the crank and moan of the elevator, the rustic scent of timber in the salon, or frantic activity hours before a wedding. It takes a certain person to live here, but The Castles uniqueness remains universally appreciated. As an event space, I'd challenge you to find anywhere as authentic as The Castle in Southern California; sure there may be trade-off's in terms of space, modern conveniences and the like, but there's a quiet simplicity to this place--as if it's been this way forever and remain long after you've gone. The permanence and uniqueness also maintains an air of intimacy between guests, newlyweds or organizers often overlooked when planning a behemoth of a celebration. As a first apartment/home/dwelling after college I admittedly fell in love with the beauty and my attitude when roaming the Castle, so I overlooked certain shortcomings or features I now enjoy in a modern loft. Are there events every weekend making it feel as though you share your home? Yes. Were certain improvement and beautification programs mismanaged by the HOA? Yes. Lack of heat in the Winter and central air in Summer get you kinda down? Yes. But I'd challenge your critique on two accounts: 1) What apartment building doesn't have its challenges or managerial issues? 2) If a magical stranger presented you with an original Picasso, wouldn't you do your best to display it, to live with it in your home, no matter what style you enjoy? The Castle is a piece of living art from a bygone age. Live here and treat it as such. Visit and bath in it's glow. But to laud it is denying it's hundred-plus years of history. 4/5 because it's not perfect for everyone, but it's nothing like anyone has ever seen. read more

A good friend of mine got married here a few weeks ago. I had only driven by this place and had always wanted to go inside. Man, what a beautiful place! I just wished I wasn't visiting in the dead of summer where it's hotter than Haiti. Other than that, gorgeous site. Gazebo (not sure if it was included or if the bride and groom provided it themselves) was a little small and I could tell the groom was a little uncomfortable standing in it, seats were comfy, really beautiful scenery. The inside is huge, spacious and really really nice! I wasn't able to see the apartments and other stuff on site, but the banquet halls and such were quite a site. They certainly chose a great place to get married! Only gripe is parking. You gotta park in one of Pasadena's lovely pay to park parking structures. Luckily, the lot right across from this place is $6 flat rate, which is the only reason why I give this place 4 stars instead of 5. Or you can choose metered parking, but who wants to keep feeding the meter when you're loving the wedding you're at! Sort of wished I would have checked this place out myself for my own wedding! read more

This is a great place for your special event to be held. We are currently photographing a wedding here and service overall all is great. People here are nice and helpful and the fact that it's pretty much in the center of Pasadena, it's a great walk around as well. The outside and the inside of the building is very elegant and rich with colors. read more

If you are looking for a unique, historic wedding venue - look no further. The Castle Green is absolutely stunning any time of year and will be a perfect place for your special day. The moment we walked into Castle Green we knew this was the place we wanted to get married. We loved that you were able to use the whole downstairs and it gave our guests space to spread out. They all loved the intimate atmosphere and the antique items spread throughout the area. We got married on 1/3/2015 and it was a little nippy. We were able to have a fire throughout the evening and it was a great touch! Our day of coordinator recommended that we get married under the large tree rather than in front of the fountain. It was just the touch we needed and wanted! Our photos so far have been gorgeous with the green and the tree as our backdrop. In addition, we loved how we were able to bring in all of our own vendors. We did use some from Dior's preferred list; however it was nice to be able to build up our special day. This gave us the ability to pick and choose based on style, price, availability, etc. It was wonderful! Finally, Dior and Rosalinda are absolutely amazing. You could not ask for two better women to work with during such a stressful time! These ladies went above and beyond to ensure that everything went smoothly. They allowed us to come by multiple times for vendor meetings and visits to see how the Castle was set up for various weddings. I loved that I was able to see what other brides were doing and use their ideas. Thank you so much ladies for everything! You made our wedding so special and I could not have asked for a better day or place! Keep up the amazing work! read more

I've attended a wedding here.. and my best friend has her pictures taken here for her wedding.. I think this place is an awesome place to take pictures.. the building is so classic and my bestie's wedding pictures came out great.. The wedding we attended was nice and intimate and classic.. I should have looked into this place for my wedding.. but I didn't want my fiance's side to travel so far.. read more

Growing up in Pasadena I'd heard tons of stories about Castle Green from wedding events to ghost stories to my mom hanging out there as a kid when it was still a hotel and my grandpa was a chef there... So its pretty cool to go inside and see how historic it is. But let me tell you... Its a whole other level of awesome to LIVE here. We are renting, yes, but how many times in your life - if ever - can you say that he actually gave you the "keys to the castle"?!?! The staircase looks to go to the sky, the elevator sounds like a wonderful old man telling a story, the main fireplace invites you in like a door to another world... And thats all before you even get to the second floor. Our apartment is amazing. From the chandeliers to the turret to the balconies to the footsteps you hear in the middle of the night... It reeks of decades of people sharing a great experience and you just can't help but to sit still, hold your breath, and listen for the stories to be told. read more

I was only in this venue for about an hour of so only because I was doing the makeup for one of my bridal clients. It is absolutely gorgeous inside. High ceiling and an older sense of style. Out doors, I love the small little lawn. It's pretty much like a small little mansion venue. Great for weddings. The only two things that I really didn't like is the parking. There is pretty much none, but I do recommend going across the street on Green and parking in public parking. First 90 minutes is free. The other bad thing is the lack of AC in the bridal powder room. During summer time, makeup application is horrid having to sit in a room all sweaty. The other thing is that lighting is a bit off. Fairly dim. Overall, pretty nice, just hot! read more

Just came here for a friend's wedding and it was beautiful. The venue is amazing! It has this classic and vintage style that I love so much. The place did feel very secluded which I loved (privacy is one thing I really value). Great place for a wedding and great place to take pictures. Now, the reason why I gave 4 stars instead of a 5. There really was no place to park, meaning you have to street park or use one of the parking structures near by (the cost will range from $5-$10). You kinda have to walk to the venue which is a bit odd. Beside that it was awesome!! :) read more

WOW this place is gorgeous! I attended a wedding here in May 2014 and it was such a peaceful and beautiful place to get married. The ceremony was outside on the grass area and the flower girl and ring boy did not end up in the lily pond which was a huge plus! Cocktail hour inside the strikingly beautiful rooms was so refreshing. It made me feel like I was in a different place at a much earlier era. I've been a guest at many weddings and it's always the same type of "outdoor" wedding and you get tired of looking at trees, flowers and stepping in the grass that gets your heels dirty but I liked how this wedding went from outdoor to indoor. The reception was in one of the ballrooms and it was nicely decorated and felt luxurious. I hope to get invited to another wedding here, I loved the experience. Minus one star for parking but that's Pasadena for you! read more

Queen for a day in the Castle.... Jason and I were married here this last June, and above all else, it made for GORGEOUS pictures. The exterior is amazing for an outdoor wedding. It was hot as hell, and there was much sweat to be retouched from the photos, but the landscape of the trees, building and fountain made for a perfect backdrop. The interior is even more stunning, with a huge ballroom, a turkish and moorish room and an incredible staircase that is MADE for grand entrances. Plenty of room for a large wedding, but intimate feeling, so more modest parties dont feel drowned out. Castle catering headed up by Yuri and Beverly were wonderful. Food was plentiful and delicous (so we hear....what bride and groom get to actually EAT on their wedding day?) and service was top notch. They went above and beyond the call of duty to make us feel cared for. So why no five star rating here? Well, a little setback with an email that was never received that resulted in a huge and ubsurd late fee that we had to pull our hair out to get reduced put a little bitter taste in our delicious wedding cake...and getting ushered out hurridly with threats of overtime charges at the end of the affair brought the redhead out of me, but that is about as much negative as I can muster up. Splurge on a great photographer here. With such a beautiful space, you will want it well documented for years to come... read more

Castle Green - Great venue to get married at, both ceremony & reception. - Venues & Event Spaces Near Me - Pasadena, California

We had our wedding on July 2, 2022 at the Castle Green and it was everything that we dreamed of. Not only is it a stunning venue, but it is also the most convenient location for all your guests. There is ample parking if they need it for a very reasonable price. In addition, it is within walking distance of so many hotels that your guests don't even need to drive if they don't want to. It is also very close to many fun bars so if you don't want the party to end too early, you can easily walk to your after party! Let's also talk about Tatiana and her team... they made planning this wedding so easy. They are organized and competent and clearly have done this many times. Despite doing so so many weddings though, Tatiana still made us feel special and looked after. We didn't feel like we were just another couple. Another nice thing is that they only do one event a day so you know that there isn't another wedding going on right in the other room. The Castle Green also made things super easy by providing us with a preferred vendor list. This is a list of vendors that are tried and true and who have worked at the Castle Green many times. We basically chose all of our vendors from this list and they were all absolutely wonderful and fun to work with! Not only that, the day went super smooth, because almost everybody knew each other and knew how things worked at the Castle Green. Castle Green was the perfect venue for us for so many reasons and hopefully it will be for you too! read more

Spectacular and beautiful and iconic. What's not to love? If only it were still a hotel with elegant dining rooms that the community could enjoy... The Victorian-era elevator is amazing. read more

This place is pretty, but is lacking customer service. Very rude employees that are not considerate of brides at all, Shannon was the worst to work with, as a bride she made my life harder as if there isn't enough stress to deal with. If I could do it all over again I wouldn't book this venue simply for the amount of stress that she caused me and my now husband, stay clear of this place, you will regret it, trust me I did read more

Pros: Historic and pretty Cons: Loud (traffic-laden part of town), overbooked, cliched place for a wedding (you'll feel like you're part of an assembly line), and toxic groundskeeping. (I literally had to leave an event early due to the pesticide/herbicide fumes emanating from the lawn. Not kidding.) There's nothing "green" about this place, other than the money you'll waste on booking it as a venue. My suggestion-try somewhere a little more original. Both this place and the Langham Huntington specialize in "Conveyor Belt Bridal". Sorry, but it's true. read more

My now-wife and I looked all over this great city for the perfect place to throw our Old Hollywood-themed wedding, and Castle Green lived up to its reputation. Shannon and the rest of the crew offered phenomenal customer service, and the venue is absolutely breath-taking! Give Castle Green a visit before settling on your final wedding destination. They gave us an evening we will never forget. read more

After going to the $85 tour curated by the Gamble House (the insides of neighboring Greene & Greene homes), I had some time to catch the last hour of Castle Green's annual tour/open house. It wasn't worth the $20. The main floor ballroom and lounge areas were clean, but not ornate. I'd rather see the ornate, yet not very clean lobbies in downtown LA. Some apartment residences were also made open by the tenants. None of the apartments were showroom quality. read more

Just attended the terrific Castle Green Holiday Open House. The next one is Mother's Day, book early! Money raised is used for continuing restoration and preservation efforts. This is the SoCal-casual version of NYCs fabled Dakota. The survival of this 1896 "Winter Resort" building is a miracle. The Pasadena Rose Parade started here, and trendy "Old Town" was brand new! Presidents McKinley and Teddy Roosevelt slept here! (not together.) Many of the unique units are open and quaintly decorated. The diverse and mostly creative-professional residents (HELLO Richard!) are on hand to give you history, share a laugh and sometimes a glass of wine, and nibblies. You can roam the building and soak-up the Victorian vibrations. Dior, the events coordinator, and her staff, do a nice job accomodating the visitors. This is also a popular wedding (and movie/tv/video) venue. Sorry to see some Yelping Bridezillas complain that this historic site needs "updating." Ugh! Parking is mostly meter and near-by structures, as it is for most CG residents, themselves Um people, this place was erected in 1896, for corn-sake! read more

After frantically searching for weeks for a place for our wedding venue I was about to give up hope (the place we had previously booked suddenly became unavailable). Then around 2am one night I stumbled upon Castle Green and was blown away by the pictures, I mean, really, who wouldn't want to get married in a castle? What really cinched it for me was the fact that they let you bring in your own alcohol. Outside catering is also offered for $10 per person. Still the hubby and I kept looking and visiting other venues though we both knew that the castle was the one though we had never seen it in person. We came there for a walkthrough and handed over a deposit the same day. Pros: Gorgeous venue! Our guests couldn't get over how nice the place was and kept asking me how we found it. Not to mention there was plenty of seating in the inside rooms for people to sit & chat comfortably during cocktail hour. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. Cons: Parking, parking, parking! I suggest getting valet as parking at the lot next store was somewhat of a nightmare (it was my wedding day and I had to drive around 3-4 times before I could find a spot at 2pm!). Location, while I love Pasadena, the location of the castle was somewhat hidden, my dad spent at least 2 hours prior to the ceremony on the phone trying to help our guests find the venue & parking. Lack of organization: There was a change in event contacts and I was not notified. In addition, it seemed as though they never kept track of my payments & correspondence as I kept getting notices that payments or contract information was due when I had already sent it in (this was less than a month before the wedding so I was very frazzled and upset). Overall I do recommend this venue, as while there were issues, Shannon and the staff did their best to rectify them. Everything turned out wonderfully and my only recommendation is to get everything in writing and keep track of payments and correspondence. This was truly a unique venue that offered gorgeous photos. Oddly enough I find myself grateful that our original venue fell through, had it not, we wouldn't have stumbled upon Castle Green. read more

Castle Green is a gorgeous venue in the heart of Old Pasadena! Our local non profit hosted our annual fundraising gala there last spring, and we couldn't have been more pleased with the experience! I highly recommend this incredible historic venue for any wedding or event needs! read more

I work at Castle Green often for weddings. This has to be one of the most gorgeous venues. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable. That's one of the most important aspects of working at a venue is being able to get along with the staff. I feel very comfortable every time I'm there like it is my second home. The ballroom holds 200, but you can use the outside space for more people. You get access to the entire space, only one wedding a night, which is another huge plus to the venue! No other brides walking around when your getting married. It's worth a peek if you are in the market for a wedding venue. read more

I am a wedding coordinator and I got the pleasure of working with Dior and her team at Castle Green! Not only is this a BEAUTIFUL venue, but the staff is great! They were so professional throughout the process and were also very helpful the days leading up to the wedding I did there, and especially on the wedding day! My husband and I got married here July 31, 2010. It has its pros and cons. The cons are you can't expect your hand to be held during the wedding planning. We enjoyed every minute of it and will definitely recommend it to future newlyweds! Completely unique and classic! read more

We were lucky enough to tour the Castle Green on one of the tour days. Oh my, it is so lovely. Residents were gracious enough to open their homes to us. We came here for a family wedding recently. This place has a lot of history based on the architecture and the condition of the buildings. The ceremony took place in the front lawn which was spacious. The reception was inside the main hall. The wedding itself went well and everyone had a good time. However, there are a few negatives. First, this place is not child/baby friendly. There is no ramp so we had to lug our baby stroller up and down the steps. Castle Green has a very strict policy with bringing children. Second, no free parking. You have to find street parking or in our case, park in the parking structure next to the castle. Third, there was no AC in the main lobby so it was hot. Lastly, the reception room is blocked by a few large pillars so visibility is not great when trying to see the bride and groom in the main dance floor. read more

Castle green was the first and only wedding venue I went to see. It was perfect for the ambiance we wanted, and the staff was super friendly. Avoid having your event here at all costs! The security guards are rude, the staff is clueless, and there are better historical buildings in Los Angeles than this one. I have been to a few weddings and a couple of events here and have the same experience every time. We checked this venue out for our wedding and had a horrible experience. I'm not one to really complain, but we got here on time and someone let us know the coordinator was with another couple, but would be with us in a moment. This a gorgeous location and a perfect venue for weddings! It is unique in the LA area. The Castle Green is a gem in the heart of Pasadena. Eventhough it's in the middle of bustling city, it is a quiet private location for a wedding ceremony, as well as a perfect spot for a great fun reception party indoors. It has a historic feel and is the closest we have in LA to the beautiful European gothic architechtural style. The facade of the building is amazing and indoors you would be suprised to find unique style elements that I haven't seen anywhere else. I had my wedding there last May. The staff were amazing! They were helpful and supportive. I would recommend this location to anyone. And the photos came out with a gorgeous background! read more

Living at the castle green is not quite as luxurious as you might think, given the true beauty/great location of the building. I need to you to know that the owners of the building are merely interested in enforcing this 100 page document, about their policies, that was written when the building was built (1901). The policies are written extremely vaguely, allowing them to bend and stretch the policies when it's advantageous to. Which is all of the time if you aren't a member of the 'Castle Green Board of Directors'. They play favoritism- if you're on the board, you are liked and left unbothered and you are not convicted of breaking a policy (that you never broke) - but if you're not a member, the owners of the building will try to take advantage of you and will continuously convict you, randomly, of policies you never attempted to break, and you will certainly face feeling 'guilty until proven innocent' because they will find every reason to cite you. Also, there are a lot of bugs throughout the building, I have to clean up instantly after every meal. I can't leave any food out, or windows open (no screens provided in my unit). I have attached a photo of a cockroach in the residential hallway next to the trash closet. And if you're looking to have an event there, keep in mind that it's not worth the $5,000 minimum to have the owners/workers patrol the event all night. Your guests aren't allowed anywhere but the lobby and keep in mind, there is Pasadena's busiest fire station across the street. Potential residents, keep that in mind as well. It's so loud every night when trying to fall asleep to sirens every 5 minutes. Don't give these people business.. read more
