The shell stayed crispy and it had a good amount of filling. I did find the taco a little bland, but I easily fixed that with hot sauce. I didn't try the other two things, but the enchilada looked fine. The burrito however, just looked like another enchilada. Or maybe I could classify it as a rolled soft taco? Idk, I wouldn't really call what they gave us a burrito, but I guess with a combo, you get what is equivalent to a baby burrito. The plating is sub optimal. For $22 for Chile Verde I expect larger portions of rice and beans. Not teeny weeny minuscule amounts. Not enough Tomatillo sauce to complement the large meat chunks (the only thing GREAT) to meet this specification they will need a larger plate. I'm not sure why I haven't rated this on Yelp before. It's been our go to Mexican restaurant since we moved to this part of San Jose. It's a family owned non chain restaurant which is a big plus for us. The food is consistently good with a great menu and options. Today we decided to go there for breakfast and I had the Machaca which not every Mexican restaurant even offers. It was a good mix of eggs, beef, peppers and came with nice hot melty-refried beans. THREE times of diving over 30 minutes just to get to their establishment and THREE times of being COMPLETELY IGNORED by their staff. I haven't had the opportunity to visit in person yet but found Castillos on door dash when searching for pozole. My favorite soup. Since having Castillo's pozole, it's my go to. It's incredibly fresh, not greasy, with great flavor. I love that it has chicken. My order is always packaged extremely well and comes with all the toppings. Skip, doesn't even taste like authentic Mexican food. I got the combo plate with enchiladas and a pork tamale. I never had a tamale that was this mushy and wet before it was nasty. It felt uncooked. The red sauce on top didn't even have any spice. The salsa also wasn't spicy. I feel like this restaurant might be catered to more American people, so that why the taste here is kinda off. The service was whatever, waited 20 minutes for someone to take our order while the other tables got serviced first even when they came in after us. While I'm cordial to my seat mates on a flight, with a four hour flight ahead of me, the last thing I wanted to do was start a conversation. And that's exactly what happened. The flight "flew" by as my seat mate and I chatted about work, family, world events and finally San Jose. I told her where I was heading and she told me that her husband, who is Mexican, regularly drives out of his way to eat at Castillo's. That was enough for me. We were babysitting tonight so takeout was on the agenda. I've been wanting to try Castillo's since the moment I stepped off the plane so that's where I went. I ordered carnitas and Chile verde (and a margarita while I waited). The food was off the chart. Definitely the best carnitas that I've ever had. The Chile verde was also awesome. The chips were obviously house made and were what all chips should strive to be. The salsa was excellent too. Both dinners came with rice, beans and tortillas. A couple of extra tortillas would have been nice but that didn't take away from the meal. Castillo's is less than a mile from my daughter's house. It took a 2300 mile trip to hear about it. I tried this restaurant for the first time for a late lunch today and was unfortunately disappointed in my experience. The food was below average at best and the service was not pleasant. I ordered a carnitas quesadilla. The menu said that the carnitas were deep fried, however, they were not. They were slow-cooked, not fried whatsoever, and the meat had a strange flavor to them. There also was barely any cheese in the quesadilla and it was very very dry. The lady taking our order was not very friendly as well. She first came to our table and all she said was "You ready?". No hi, how are you, or anything like that. While my mom was ordering, she had questions about her order but the lady kept cutting her off and turning to me to ask what I wanted. Ambiance is okay, nothing nice or special. The space was fairly clean but still felt dirty at the same time. Sadly won't be coming back here again. I'm giving them 1 star, not because of the food, but because they keep messing up on our orders that we've placed through Doordash! Every time we order 2 of the same combo, it shows on the doordash order, 2x Combo #3. I don't understand why they only deliver 1 and not 2! They keep shorting us one of the meals! This has happened twice when ordering for delivery, and once when we picked it up! Unfortunately it ruined our delivered meals. Luckily on the pick up order, we checked the to go bag to make sure and of course, it was wrong again. When my husband told them they shorted him 1 of the combos, they insisted he was wrong, and then he had to show the detailed doordash receipt, which showed they were incorrect. I was not too happy with my choice. The flavor was rather bland. I needed to add tapatio to my enchiladas to give it any type of flavor. I wasn't incredibly impressed with the Spanish rice either. That also was really lacking salt and seasoning. Likelihood is, I'll probably be back though because I do enjoy their fish tacos as those are really good. Waited for about 15-20 minutes which wasn't too bad. Once we got seated, we were served chips and salsa. The salsa was really good! It took awhile for our order to be taken, but that made sense since it was pretty busy. I ordered the enchiladas suizas and my bf ordered the camaranoes a la diabla. We wanted tamarindo agua fresca, but they ran out of it. Unfortunately, our food took awhile to come.... And once the food came, my food didn't really feel hot and fresh. The chicken in my enchiladas had more so dark meat and the quality of the meat wasn't really to my liking. The Camarones was pretty good, but it wasn't as spicy as other spots where I've tried it. Wow - so freaking good. I ordered Enchiladas Rojas. My expectations coming here were actually low due to the rating but I was hungry and this place was close so I gave it a shot and so glad I did. The flavor was fantastic from the sauce on the outside to the meats on the inside. Will definitely be back to try some other enchiladas /sauces. Service was also phenomenal. After being at Kaiser ER down the street for many hours with my elderly mom who fell, we drive to Castillo's as quickly as we could since they close at 9:00. We get there at 8:45 (which i hate doing to a restaurant but this was something that couldn't be helped). The manager(?) said they would seat us then seconds later as we start walking with him, he stops and says, no never mind, we're doing "to go" orders only. This was still 15 min before they closed. It's an light creamy orange color sauce. not like any other basic enchilada. Ordered it with Shredded beef. Definite game changer. Chili verde plate was very good. Taste was phenomenal, can also taste the lime juice in the Verde along with the rest of the sauce. Pork meat is very soft and easy to break. Also comes with rice and beans and choice or tortillas either corn or flour. Kids enchilada meal was also a very good portion. It was a chicken enchilada with also rice and beans, kid portion but honestly the portion is very good size given it's a kid portion. Other places are very small. Overall they have the best Mexican authentic food in this area of the Southside of town. It's worth a try if u guys are in the area. Promise u it's amazing!!
