Well sometime around then, some industrious craftsmen were sawing down oak trees, cutting them into planks and laying down the wood into my floor. So some 47,450 days later (that would be 68,320,000 minutes of steps, weather changes, barometric pressure dips, moving furniture, pets scratching etc, mopping, waxing, insects, new owners, joy, tears and changing seasons), the oak changed into patches of pine and polyurethane stains and here we are. We called in Vintage Flooring to remedy the planks that were cracked, where former patching jobs were failing, and to address the aging yellow stain. They came out quickly, presented us with a quote to replace planks and to replace the entire floor. We selected to replace the damaged section only. They started work but informed us that the floor was too damaged and the entire floor needed to be replaced. Entire process from start to finish was 4 days. Floor looks gorgeous. Minor deductions: change from sections of floor to entire floor (although they cautioned us) shoebase will have to be redone and I found a Budweiser can (empty) outside the room. Nicest floor in the house now. Spoiler alert: more work to come!

We hired Vintage Flooring Company in 2024 to install floors in our new home. Problems started immediately: no protection from dust and stain throughout the house (we spent months after cleaning up the dust and stain), flooring left unfinished beneath the refrigerator, our dishwasher boxed in, and their foreman pressed us for full payment before the job was complete, which was against our agreement. The owner apologized and promised custom wood vent covers, which never arrived. Our bedroom floor has warped and lifted. When I contacted them, I was told it was a moisture issue and that someone would inspect it. No one ever did. An independent flooring expert later found that the floor was not properly affixed to the subfloor. We now face a costly replacement. When I asked them in writing to make this right, they replied that they are out of business. Yet the Illinois Secretary of State's records show they are active but not in good standing. I did not know this when I hired them, and I wish I had checked. Before hiring any contractor, look up their business status on the Illinois Secretary of State website, ask for proof of liability insurance, and never pay in full before the work is complete.

Marius, the man who did the estimate was extremely professional and did amazing work. I was prepared to have a non matching section of floor but was extremely pleased to find Marius had matched the color extremely well. Personally I liked Vasile, hes a talker and he loves giving you promotional materials for the products hes using for the work being done. I could see it coming off as a sales pitch but he never upsold me on material or extra work, I think hes just passionate about flooring. One gripe I do have is I wish he had stained more samples for us to compare against the existing flooring. The old flooring has a patina that would be difficult to match but I think it probably could have been stained closer to what was there. On the other hand it matches the wood on the stairs so it is hard to know what the best option would have been. Overall I would recommend him and use him again.
