What a great hidden find in Bellevue! We came here for dinner and left completely stuffed! The food was solid. We walked in 30 minutes before closing and were immediately seated. Our first impression of Caspian was not so great. After we ordered a bottle of wine our server asked if we wanted anything to eat because the kitchen was already closed, and she looked irritated. All I could respond was, "The kitchen's already closed?" - which she confirmed. It was a little confusing because if the kitchen was closed then why would she ask us what we wanted to eat? So I asked if we could still order food, which fortunately, we were. Therefore, we quickly asked her for recommendations and just chose based off what she pointed out and hoped for the best. I understand we came half an hour before close, but we at first felt rushed and our server seemed annoyed that we came for dinner so late. Fortunately though, that was the only minor negative of this place, as our server's attitude changed soon after we ordered. We were given a bowl of salad to start with, and who appeared to be the owner brought us a complimentary crudite plate, and said that it went with our wine. That was a nice gesture, and he was very nice and checked up on us after we got our dinner. The food was yummy! It didn't take long for us to get our food. We shared the Caspian Special, which was a trio of kabobs - beef, lamb and chicken breast with Ghimeh Bademjan, a stew with fried eggplant, yellow peas and beef in a tomato sauce. We devoured everything! The Caspian Special is massive, so would recommend sharing with someone and the stew was a great addition, to add some sauce for the rice and kabobs. Of the kabobs from the Special, I really liked the beef! I usually don't order beef kabobs, but the marinade on it was delicious, yet it was flavorful and you could taste the char from the cook. The other kabobs were very good, too, as they were both very juicy and tender. Order the Caspian Special and find your favorite! The Ghimeh Bademjan was a solid stew. I really liked the combination of the different ingredients in it, especially with the fried eggplant on top - since I love eggplant! It was super yummy when you would take scoops of the stew to pour over the rice, making it heartier. You could easily just eat this dish on its own...but I did like the kabobs a lot more! Even though we arrived at 7:30, we were able to still dine passed closing, along with two other tables that were there. I was worried at first that we'd have to rush through our dinner, but glad that the service ended up being great. Plus, when you check in on Yelp here, you get a second entree 20% off, which is a great deal if you're dining with company. Caspian is a hidden Persian restaurant off of Bel-Red road. I drove right by it, getting there, so remember - if you're coming from Downtown Bellevue and get to Park Place, you've gone too far. It's in the business building right next to it, and is located on the side of the building - not the front, which is why it's hard to find. Tucked away in a warehouse area off the beaten path, this Persian gem is not just a "must try", but a "must frequent often"! I was surprised after arriving to find ample parking, a lovely interior, friendly staff, comfortable chairs, and a super clean ladies room. Clearly they did the build out from scratch in 2011, and for that I am grateful. The food was delicious! Our party of 6 shared and enjoyed the Kashk Bademjan (cooked eggplant & onion), the Chicken Kabobs (we tried the thighs), the Barg (aka prime sirloin), the Lamb Chops and the Fesenjan (a stew with chicken, pomegranate molasses & crushed walnuts). I came in from out of town and found Caspian on yelp. Simply one of the best Persian restaurants in the COUNTRY! Not an exaggeration. Being Persian makes you very picky when it comes to Persian food. This place is a gem. Here's the breakdown. Starters: 1) We were served a salad with a balsamic like dressing. Very nice start. 2) The bread and cheese. This is the ONLY thing I did not like about this place. The bread and cheese is prepackaged. My suggestion: either make it fresh or get rid of it. Drinks: 1) Dough: I NEVER drink dough at restaurants. Ever. It usually comes in a bottle and is carbonated. Horrible. BUT Caspian makes it IN HOUSE! After my dad ordered it, I had to get one! Just like how my mom makes it! Even if you're not accustomed to dough, I suggest you try it. It's delicious. 2) Tea: The tea was delicious. They brought out the tea in a nice glass cup. The ironic part was that they came to refill our glasses with a coffee pot. The irony had me laughing. Entrees: 1) Cornish Hen Sultani: hoooo myyyyy gaaawwwdd..rice was perfect! Chicken was marinated excellently. Kubideh was the BEST! Not oily, not super fatty at all! As a Persian who cooks Persian food regularly I can say Caspian grill's food is the closest taste to home cooked a as it can be. Their basmati rice is literally an inch long which if you cook rice you know is not an easy task to produce. Their kabobs are delicious using only good meat and done to requested doneness and stews are truly authentic. They offer very generous portions for reasonable price and as a family run operation the staff is both courteous and friendly. If you're looking for food that truly represents the most authentic Persian experience I strongly recommend the Caspian grill in Bellevue. As a side note it has been said that Persian food has by far the most complex flavors of any cuisine in the world. I have forgotten how much I love Persian food until I came here for lunch this past Sunday. The place is hidden in an office plaza off 136th Pl. The owner told us that they used to be in the U-district and they moved to Bellevue two and half years ago. The Mirza Ghassemi (smoked eggplants) here brought back wonderful memories from my favorite Persian restaurant in the Bay Area. While I have never been an eggplant lover, I can eat the dip all day and not get tired of it. It tasted intriguingly smokey. Highly recommended if you have friends who don't like eggplants and are looking to change their mind. My friend and I split a Cornish Game Hen entree (recommended by the server). The chicken was grilled so perfectly and it was so flavorful that you just want to keep on eating more. (I wonder what they rub it with to get that flavor). The roasted tomato that came with it was charred and I can't remember if this is typical, but it was good. The entree size is big enough to share between two people if you are not hungry or want to try more things. The owner came by to ask if we wanted desserts. We got the rose water ice cream with saffron and pistachio bits on top. I wish there were more pistachio on the ice cream but over all the taste was quite nice. The rose water was refreshing and the saffron added depth to the flavor profile. The service was also very good. I love food that can be shared. The server brought plates to share for every dish. There is something to sharing food that makes the food taste better! The only unfortunate thing about place is its price. The food is definitely worth it, but the ticket price just means that I probably won't get to visit the place as frequently as I like (or to convince people to come here with me frequently). Like: Absolutely LOVE the Mirza Ghasemi- Smoked Eggplant, Garlic & Tomato Sauce ($11). This is an appetizer that you must try. It has just the right amount of smokiness and you can really taste the tomato here. This is super addicting. Also love the Ghimeh Bademjan ($16)- Diced Stew Beef, Yellow Peas, Spiced in Tomato Sauce, Topped with Fried Eggplant or Fried Potatoes. This is a wonderful dish that's full of flavor. It also goes great with some Mirza Ghasemi with it. I've also had Oven Baked Chicken ($18)- Half of free rance chicken baked in tomato sauce and aromatic spices, served withs auteed mushroom and red vegetable. This is not as flavorful as the two dishes above but is worth trying. I've had the Ground Beef Kabob/Koobideh as well. ($17)- Two skewers of seasoned ground beef. They give you to long kabobs of ground beef. At first it sounds pricey, but along with the salad you get and the amount of basmati and safron rice you get, it's very filling. They serve large portions here so come hungry. It's a little pricey but everything is delicious. I've never had Persian food before, and this is the first I've ever been to so I'm not sure if my review is as helpful as it can be but i LOVE it and this has to be my favorite place for Persian food. If anyone else has any other recommendations around Seattle or Bellevue, please let me know. I feel like this place is a hidden gem, because out of the 4 times i've been here, it has always had either a) no one else seated, or b) one other party seated. The food was fresh, tasty, and plenty and the service was very courteous. As others have pointed out, the location is a bit odd. I would hope such great restaurant be located somewhere that's easier to spot. Nonetheless, there was no shortage of guests. There were quite a few parties this late weekday night we visited. He took my order and told me to come 20 minutes later which I did. The food was ready as soon as I came in and I barely had to wait. So I would say the service was great for me as a pick up order. I had ordered the ground chicken and a side of rice and broiled tomato as I was splitting the food with my sister. The quantity was amazing! It was easily splittable and we still had plenty of leftovers for the next day. Overall, the food was not heavy, didn't leave me feeling bloated and was pleasant . My only criticism is that I wish that the food had a bit more spices (ginger, garlic and salt) because the food for me was a bit on the bland side and I wish they had given more lemons with the meal.
