* - one star for customer service and atmosphere.
**** - four stars for food alone.
A few years back when my all time favorite restaurant "SAFFRON" closed, we found Caspian had opened. We were excited, the food was great and I had written a couple of great reviews. Now, I have frequented this restaurant for a consistent 2 years and I have a new review to post.
Having been to this restaurant so many times, you would think that there would be some appreciation for the loyalty. I don't order just one meal, I order big orders and very frequently not just for myself but for friends and coworkers. So, I write this review having had many experiences with Casipan Grill.
First, I want to just mention about the food, the food is relatively good and sometimes delicious. At times there is a consistency problem but for the most part I believe the food is good. I am Persian, I know Persian food so I can say that they do deliver a good meal. They do use good meat to make their food and the servings are plentiful. I think the consistency issue is because they don't have enough staffing to accommodate the instant dinner traffic.
The real problem is the service. It's unfortunate. I have a huge issue with kind of personalities working in the restaurant. It is a very cold atmosphere, the decor is fine and it's not because it is in an industrial type area, it is because some of the full time (one in particular) servers are not so friendly and one of the owners is indifferent and this can be construed as rude and snobby, he is very abrupt. On a positive note one of the owners has his customer service skills down and he is always kind and professional and he is the one with the glasses, I wish he was always there he makes for a better experience. Additionally, the best waiter/server is a young Persian guy with glasses and a close cut beard often wearing a gold necklace, very friendly guy, I wish all the waiters were like him. There is also a young girl, Persian with long hair, she is also great, friendly and highly accommodating. The owners should have them train the other staff. My reason for the details is because I want the owner to see this review and understand who is dong a good job and who isn't. Because of the service in the restaurant, I dread dining in. Now, the worst waiter/server is a tall, skinny, balding Persian man. He is usually up front seating people and doing take out orders, he's from the old restaurant in Seattle. My issue with him is that he is rude and offensive. Two times while dining in, he was our waiter and he told my group that we are ordering too much food and kept trying to usher us out of the restaurant as quickly as possible, didn't even offer tea. I don't understand that? Don't you want a good tip, don't you want the restaurant to be productive? My gosh, we ordered a $500+ meal for all of us, can't we eat and relax? I haven't brought my coworkers and family back for this reason. Oh and by the way the restaurant wasn't even busy. The owners should know that. Even though a meal can be good, just the attitude from the one owner that is cold and any interaction from the rude waiter (because he must be their head waiter as he frequents many tables) they will ruin your experience.
I also have to mention, which many restaurant goers have mentioned to me because I referred many friends and family to this restaurant in years past, Caspian does not answer their phone. In fact, they take it off the hook when they are too busy. I can understand how a restaurant is too busy but at least answer the phone and tell the potential customer that the order wait is over an hour so you don't leave your potential business hanging. Or if you can't accommodate take out then say so. Also note to the owners the message on the machine should be changed, it is trivial but when you call in and are wishing to speak to a live voice it doesn't make you feel to good when you hear the message saying: "Thank you for calling Caspian Grill, we are busy helping our good customers" It's sort of laughable but by leaving a message like that are you insinuating that us callers to order take out are not good customers? Again it's trivial but my friends and I have joked that it sounds funny. You might want to change that.
So, bottom line the food is very good and true to the culture (I recommend trying it for the taste but order take out), the service is undesirable, they need to work on service, atmosphere and answering the phone. Perhaps they need to work on proper staffing and get a customer service professional in to help them. read more
