Totally lame! We went in for the Norway v. England World Cup game. They have 4 large TVs. Only 2 TVs even had the game on. (golf on the others). The manager refused to turn the volume on. Looked like 90% of the people there wanted to watch the game. There's a time to meet the moment, and she didn't. She said "not on weekends". Many people just left at halftime. Unfortunately Evie's was packed out the door so it was too late to find another place. PS. Bartenders and servers are super nice and food is good. The drinks and live band are great but it is also so busy that sometimes our apps take over an hour to come out, or is forgotten completely but still left on the bill. Stopped in on Tuesday night while exploring Downtown for an amazing drink. The staff was quick to recommend their favorites and also without being asked gave us water cups (and kept them full!). I ordered the sh*ts bananas and my friend ordered the Chai Hard, both were amazing. There were only a few other people in the restaurant, which made for a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere--ideal for unwinding. The focus here is definitely on the spirits, and their happy hour is fantastic. At just $8 per cocktail, it offers exceptional value. We sampled two classics: the Margarita and the Old Fashioned. I am a woman that loves a dive bar and a good drink, preferably whiskey. Came here for a random date night and was thoroughly pleased with the crowd of people the bar drew in. Service was great while sitting at the bar and was able to network with a few people while there. Really enjoyed my chicken sandwich and my date enjoyed his bowl. I am deeply disturbed by my experience at Cask & Ale. This was my second visit, and what happened was scary enough that I almost called 911 from the bathroom. While I was in the unisex bathroom after waiting in line with my friend, a male security guard began violently pounding on the door, shaking the handle and pulling on the door as if trying to open it!(my friend witnessed this from the hallway).. When I came out, the security guy was aggressive & tried to force me through a back alley door. I had no idea why he was so angry or why he was trying to isolate me into an alley. I refused and told him I was NOT going out the back door to an alley!! I walked toward the front and him and another security followed me, said I had to leave, which of course I would, I don't know why I was being asked to leave, but this was scary and I just wanted to get out safely. Another security guy was pushing me from behind as I was walking until I started recording him, then he hid his face.. I tried to report what happened to the front doorman, but he refused to hear anything. This behavior was threatening and completely inappropriate. I hope there is video footage in the bar for management to review. I had been enjoying an evening with friends and it quickly escalated to an unsafe situation because of the "security" and for what reason!? As a healthcare professional, I am very aware of safety concerns, and this crossed a serious line! This is not acceptable behavior from security, and it raises serious concerns about how women are treated here. read more

Cask & Ale was a total surprise during a recent trip to Sarasota with my partner. We had the best experience! The food was beyond good. The Sicilian rice ball was phenomenal! We also had the tacos, ceviche, Philly cheesesteak eggrolls, espresso martinis and a few other options. Their happy hour is the best anywhere! Full sized plates for $7 each! We went in with a licensed well behaved service dog due to a major medical issue. The staff immediately scolded us to leave or sit outside with the "dog". We politely mentioned that she is a a service animal and they said "it doesn't matter please leave." Keep in mind this is after many trips with the animal to this bar/restaurant. This is a violation of ADA laws. For that reason we will never be back. read more

A group of 6 of us came here for their bottomless brunch! The vibe is cool here, they had live music the entire morning, and if you're looking for a younger crowd in Sarasota this is a great spot! We ordered the chicken biscuit which really was in need of more hot honey (we were able to get more!), but it was pretty good and a large portion! The breakfast potatoes were a teensy bit dry but pretty flavorful so it didn't stop me from eating most of them. $18 for unlimited mimosas (great flavors!) and bloody marys is a great deal and we really enjoyed them. Jacob, the bartender/server/jack of all trades who took care of us, was a great guy. In particular, our three year old spilled something immediately upon getting there during a 4th of July shift where Jacob was the only one working initially. Despite that huge (and shameful for my wife and I) inconvenience, Jacob was charming and kind throughout. On top of that, the food and drinks we got (carnitas nachos, smash burger, shrimp tacos, various spicy and regular margaritas) were genuinely delicious. We came to visit here while we were in town for a wedding. It's one of the few bars that were packed. When we visited, it was early November and they had a great pumpkin martini that I really liked. They have your normal selection of beers and some specialty cocktails on the menu. The place got crowded fast both nights we visited and one night a fight broke out, but security was quick to resolve and get them out. The prices are pretty comparable to other bars and coming from the DC area, I would even say they were cheaper. While the space is big, I will say a lot of the table tops got taken fast so be prepared to stand if you're going there later. There are 2 single stall bathrooms in the back so the line does get long as well. read more

The interior is brightly lit with warm mahogany countertops that attracts a more sophisticated crowd who likes their cocktails and whisky. Pros: great variety of drinks and cocktail. the good: very nice decor, huge wood bar with lots of liquor bottle, comfy long leatherette banquette. the bad: went for happy hour and tried several appetizers. the salad was TERRIBLE. terrible dressing, chicken cut up into tasteless teeny cubes, could see no veggies, just lettuce. left the whole thing. the tacos: ok, but little filling. the "rice ball" should be called rice mush. no rice kernels inside. just mush with melted cheese. left most of it. the worst: they had problem with music system. maybe wiring was bad, as guys at bar tried to fix it, repeatedly sent EXTREMELY LOUD, EAR SPLITTING popping sound throughout the place. after being assaulted with this loud noise, we went to bar, asked for bill and paid. Left our drinks 2/3 full and lots of food on plates. Couldn't stand it anymore. Overall, bad experience. read more

Bouncer didn't let me in because he didn't believe I smoked the kind of cigarettes I had in my pocket. When I threw the cigarettes away to try and appease him, he then told me I reeked of pot when literally five people were smoking weed in their outdoor seating. I told him I don't smoke and that he could check me for weed or whatever else he wanted, but then he shooed me away like I was a child and called my friends and I 'dumbasses' on the way out for good measure. Couldn't get in so I'm not gonna bash anything else but I've never been treated so poorly by a bouncer in all my life. Incredibly unprofessional. Don't plan on coming back, especially if the rest of the staff is half as rude and disrespectful as he was. Many other great options nearby though! read more

Good ambiance, chill (but still fun) crowd, GREAT gin cocktail called the Razzle Dazzle that Was that perfect blend of sweet and tart. Heartily recommend that one. Music kept the crowd going but it wasn't so loud that I got annoyed (and I get annoyed by loud music easily). NBA playoffs on the screens so my husband was happy. We stopped into Cask & Ale for a quick drink while our table was being prepared across the street... but we ended up liking the atmosphere so much that we stayed for dinner. Right off the bat, the spicy margarita and "Listen Linda" cocktail were incredible. The bartenders definitely know how to whip up a tasty and strong drink. We followed up with a couple of appetizers which were also delicious. The only critique we had were for the nachos which had blue cheese fondue on them in place of sour cream, but it was still a unique take and a good dish. Dinner finished up with a house burger, which is not pictured as the burger fairy ate it too fast for the camera. Overall the atmosphere and live music made it an incredibly enjoyable night with very fair prices. Will definitely be back next time we're in town! read more

Tried to go for happy hour. Bar full. Probably 20+. Stood waiting. Bartender never acknowledged us. In her defense she was the only one it seamed for the entire bar. Table where some dude was on a laptop (assume manager or owner) and 2 guys which could have been servers or bartenders and they were to busy talking to help us or the full bar. Waited longer and finally turned and walked out slowly thinking maybe someone would help us but nope. Out we went. Place looks pretentious. Those at the table need to realize that customers come first. We usually drop $100-200 for happy hour and typically dinner after so that is their loss. Would not go back as the place has to have a nice vibe which it did not. read more
