I found myself at Past Prezence a few weeks ago, and I'm surprised I ever left! Past Prezence, run by Gina and Herb, is a true haven of wonderfully eclectic home furnishings, purses and articles of clothing. Each item has a rich story in its past, which I'm sure Gina and Herb will tell you about if you ask. Aside from the antiques, Gina and Herb also sell (and make!) original coffee tables from unexpected materials. Brimming with creativity and stocked with the right tools, Gina and Herb make custom pieces, too. I can claim, with absolutely no hyperbole, that Gina and Herb are artists. And, at that, some of the kindest, most interesting and inspiring people I have ever met. Visiting Past Prezence, from a completely selfish perspective, got me so much more than I bargained for: an artful coffee table, a beautiful mirror, a mellowed dresser, and a few of Gina's vintage purses (that already lived a memorable life, but are in great shape to live again)! I'm sad that there was a sign that they are closing at the end of the month and going to relocate to Bernat Mill antiques in uxbridge because that's kind of far. AND the ingredients are quality. You get what you pay for. Small group for afternoon tea. And a sampling of bubbles. On the docket - how to prepare a "proper" English cup of tea. Yea. Traditional cucumber tea-time sandwiches. Nothing complicated there. BUT making millionaires shortbread... and traditional fluffy, airy and delicate SCONES with a hefty dose of clotted cream and jam... Weather was dreadful. Dirty and icy. 2 of the chefs for the day couldn't make it, but with 6 brave souls, one delightful instructor, super clean kitchen, gadgets, American and Irish butters (LOTS OF BUTTER, LIKE BUTTER and more BUTTER), caster sugar, get in and get dirty hands - we had to breathe in sunshine through the grey sky. Simply magic. If you haven't come by, its worth the visit! Booze is comparable with Total Wine AND you can find special oddities. And commodities. And Cheese. AND killer baguettes (insider secret - they don't bake on Sundays, but if you MUST carb it - they sell them frozen...). CANT WAIT FOR MY NEXT CLASS! It was Scheduled for August 30, 2026. On August 19, my friend called to say her credit card company just issued her a credit for the class. I checked my email & my card company credited me also. My friend called Duck Soup to ask what happened? Who ever answered the phone called the store owner for an explanation. The reason was, everyone was cancelling and we weren't worth it. NO APOLOGY!!!! Having worked in retail and special-order sales, I understand these things happen but their conscientious treatment of the matter turned what could have been a bad experience into a good one. I really like how they're a family-owned business. The employees seem to love what they do and enjoy each other's company. That sort of thing makes a huge difference in a shopper's experience.
