I missed two hours of work for this appointment so it upsets me that I waited in the lobby for an hour with no updates on how long it would take to be seen. I could hardly hear the receptionists behind the plastic barrier and the tv was on loud. When I finally got placed in a room, it had already been about an hour and 40 minutes past my scheduled appointment. Someone came in to quickly drop off a box, but at no point did anyone apologize for the wait or offer any indication of how long I could expect to wait. As a diabetic, I have to worry about low blood sugar, so it was important to get a retinopathy but I couldn't sit there waiting for almost two hours because my blood sugar started to drop. I really wanted to be safe and be able to walk home if the procedure would make it unsafe to drive. Unfortunately, nothing was completed and I walked out to go home and take care of myself. Please be respectful of appointment times. Please communicate with patients who have disabilities about how long they will need to wait. Please tell us if we can step away and you can call us to come back in to be seen. It's okay if you're very busy, so either don't set the appointment or at least please talk and be upfront about what to expect.

Managing a debilitating disease that essentially changed my life 6 years ago has not been easy; receiving a terrible care from my former doctor is even worse knowing what I know as a healthcare provider. I was referred to Dr. Carlos Montoya Jr's office last year, and I can honestly say that I am beyond happy with what I have been experiencing so far. Dr. Montoya Jr exudes confidence, knowledge, and compassionate; the last quality is the most important trait I think all healthcare workers should practice, which I strongly feel Dr. Montoya Jr does extremely well on. Illnesses will always be part of our lives and although the doctor's role is to cure or to heal said illnesses, the patients will always remember in how they were treated as a person. I will point out that it may seem unfair to other patients who have had negative experiences than I did and rightfully so. But, I strongly recommend you to approach it with a different perspective: the clinic can get very busy because of the population they serve. To put it simply, the clinic could have served a higher socioeconomic class where only PPO insurance is accepted, thus they could have made more money; obviously, Dr. Carlos Montoya did not believe in that philosophy and this practice is still being carried out by Dr. Carlos Montoya Jr. Insurance coverage is beyond confusing and frustrating; I have no other words to say except how terrible it is. With that being said, it is not clinic's fault if your medical care is not covered - they have absolutely no control over it, but what you can do is to always ask what other options they have. People have to wait outside and there is dog and bird poop everywhere on the sidewalk. The parking lot is full of potholes which are dangerous for older patients who use canes and walkers. Secondly, the wait time is ridiculous. You have an appointment for a specific time but you are never seen on time. The last time I was here I had a 9am appointment. I was called into the room at 9:15am but wasn't seen by the doctor for another 50 minutes. They keep timers outside each room to time how long a patient had been waiting. Every room was over 40 minutes and I even overheard one of the Drs mention that patients were getting upset by the wait. It's ridiculous and I'm ready to move on to another provider which is unfortunate because I really do like the staff and Dr Rivera since they know our family so well.
