Tonight I took my son and his girlfriend on the short drive down Hickman through Waukee and Adel to Redfield. It's seat yourself. Seating is stools at the bar and a combination of low top and high top tables and chairs. Menus and napkins along with basic condiments are at the table. We were greeted right away when we walked in. Staff was friendly and personable. I've come to expect this from any of Steve Robert's teams. I don't think you'd last long with him if you weren't. Ordering and payment are done at the table. Cards and cash accepted. They have happy hour specials from 400 pm to 600 pm Tuesday to Friday. Half off appetizers and drink specials. We ordered: 1x cheeseburger basket with fries 1x 10 pc wings basket with fries 1x breaded tenderloin 1x appetizer of mammoth mozzarella sticks (and they are) 1x appetizer of cheese balls 1x appetizer of fried pickles 1x appetizer of fried mushrooms 3x fountain drinks (Coke products) Tiffany was making magic happen in the kitchen while two young ladies were taking care of business up front. Tenderloin and patty melt. Not complicated. Then watched as at least a dozen or more separate takeout orders were given to others. Had to be at least a total of 50 different orders leaving with 12 different customers over the course of over an hour. Server still checked on us. Finally after over an hour's wait I'd had enough. Other later arriving custoners, a 2 party, got their food ahead of ours. I paid for the two drinks and left. Won't be back. It wasn't a case of a lost ticket because server knew where the ticket was. She said it would be up soon. Nothing on the grill when I looked. I don't mind a busy night but it was obvious the call in orders were being served before customers were being delivered orders.

Sadly, we were the only ones in the restaurant -- and it felt like not much has changed since the place opened back in the 50s or 60s. Would've been nice to sip on a beer while waiting (the pizza took quite a while), but just a heads-up: they only serve canned pop and bottled water. Now, the good news -- once the pizza finally arrived, it was **fantastic**. Classic brick-oven flavor, perfectly crisp, and loaded with flavor. We ate the whole thing even though we'd planned to save leftovers for my daughter and her roommate! If I lived in Boone, I'd absolutely order from here again -- but next time, it would definitely be takeout.
