Aspenwood Landscape - Complete backyard redo with a swimming pool, deck, paver pool deck, dog area, turf

I'm an outdoor living designer that services two locations with in person services but sometimes we…read morework remotely. Often times our remote projects are in the western United States where homeowners already understand the value a designer brings. The biggest downfall of designing remotely is not having a contractor to refer to our remote design clients because as I'm sure you can imagine, things don't usually go to plan and corners get cut. That changes for us when we met Joe. High end custom outdoor living construction is expensive, it takes a while and it's stressful but if the communication between all parties is on point, the project is a breeze. We're happy to have aligned ourselves with Aspenwood. Our other projects in the area have been train wrecks due to contractors promising things they cannot deliver, overbooking themselves and most importantly horrible communication. This company has knocked it out of the park for 3/3 of our area projects and we're looking forward to the next one.

We cancelled the job in the last few days of August 2024 when they still hadn't planned a start date with us. They refused to return our deposit - stating they had already purchased materials, which was strange, considering we hadn't even chosen our materials yet. AVOID. So, literally - we got NOTHING for $2,000.

This & That Property Services was fantastic to work with. I highly recommend them and I'd use them…read moreagain. When getting quotes, I found communication with other companies frustrating and off-putting. One company didn't respond when they advised they would, another seemed very rigid and inflexible. Steve (owner of This & That) was very personable, answered his calls when able, and responded in a timely manner. We received our landscape quote the day after he reviewed our yard. Before we committed to This & That, Steve came out again to discuss changes. Once we signed our agreement with him, Steve continued to be available to receive our calls, texts, and emails and was flexible with design changes. Steve was also very knowledgeable, straightforward, honest, and sincere in his communication. We showed Steve pictures of trees that we liked and he advised that he could get these trees, but also advised that the picture did not reflect how it looks in Colorado. We told him about our HOA requirements, and he explained and put us at ease regarding how he would meet them. Installation was also a great experience. Steve started on Tuesday, said they would wrap up on Monday. They finished early Friday, a full business day early. They absolutely overdelivered and surpassed our expectations. We were also able to make some minor deviations as they worked (made a play area for the kids larger, plant placement, adding additional rock, etc.) Also, while Steve wasn't onsite the entire time, he WAS onsite every day and for most of everyday. When he wasn't here, he was out picking up the material for our project. Thank you, Steve, and crew for the fantastic job!

I am very impressed with their work ethic and their dedication and willingness to do whatever is needed. They are also friendly, kind, and very respectful. Their pricing is more than reasonable. We are already planning additional work. I highly recommend them.

We reached out to DetailCrews and heard back from them within a day or so, and we set up a time to meet. We developed a plan with Anel and he executed it perfectly. We could not be happier with the results. Detailcrews - Anel and his team - were professional, communicative, and just really nice people. They were here when they said they were going to be here, asked for clarification if it was needed and worked with us to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. We already have other jobs in mind that we'll definitely reach out to them about.

Both projects have…read moreserious, unresolved problems, and Alen has not responded to our attempts to get them fixed. 1. Patio grading floods the foundation. The patio extension was graded toward the house instead of away from it, so any rain now pools against our foundation. When we raised this, Alen said it was done that way to avoid a "tripping hazard" -- a concern that was never mentioned before or during the work, only after it was finished and the problem became obvious. 2. Irrigation system installed incorrectly. The backflow preventer failed, and we discovered the drain valve had been installed backwards. We've since had other landscapers out for unrelated work, and multiple of them commented, unprompted, on how poorly Detail Crews work was done. Alen and his team did real damage to our property and have shown no interest in making it right. I'd steer clear of this company entirely.

We had…read morea substantial backyard overhaul and met with several landscaping companies to get quotes- Nick understood our vision immediately and in a way none of the others did. Admittedly, the only thing that gave me any pause was that he doesn't have many reviews- don't let that deter you!! Nick gave us an incredible design and worked with us to revise and phase it out for budget purposes. We completed phase 1 of the work with him this spring (deck demo and paver patio install) and it was absolutely seamless. From tweaking design to picking materials, Nick was always accessible and a great communicator. His crew worked quickly and efficiently and we are SO thrilled with our new outdoor space. We'll be calling Nick again next year to tackle the rest of our project! Cannot recommend him highly enough.

We hired Nick and Viewpoint Design Group LLC to landscape our backyard in April 2022. Our project…read moreincluded design services, complete removal of existing backyard landscaping and patio, save for one tree, pouring of a new concrete patio and hot tub pad, installation of a gas fire pit and gas line for our grill, new sod, 5 large trees, around 20 plants, and a new irrigation system to include new valves and lines. Many aspects of the project fell short, and if you don't want to read any further, my recommendation is to look elsewhere for your landscaping needs. Pros -Very solid design work, our backyard originally looked great and the design is much more functional and private. Cons -Patio: the subcontractor ran short on concrete and I witnessed them pulling what was left from the pump lines and a catch tray to complete the project. The result is a portion of our patio that has incorrect drainage/pooling, spalling and cracking. -Irrigation: and entirely new system, including valves, was supposed to be installed. None of the valves were replaced and I am now having significant problems that will require a complete replacement of the 20 year old valves. -Plants: Nick assured me that the 7 boxwoods he had planned would hold up to my two male dogs. They were dead within 3 months, replaced under his warranty, and were all dead again the following spring. In researching, it turns out that boxwoods are not tolerant of dog urine whatsoever and something else should have been used. -Fire pit: beautiful centerpiece in our backyard. Unfortunately, it was slammed together at the last minute and the internal structure couldn't support the lava rock. I rebuilt it myself less than 6 months after the project was completed. Lawn: extremely lumpy and uneven, is going to require a bunch of sand and labor to get it where it needs to be. I spoke with Nick many times after our project was completed to address some of these issues (not all were immediately present or known about) and was brushed off and made to feel like I was putting him out...after cutting him a check for $60k. Not only is the value not there, I am now paying a second time for things that weren't done correctly the first time and in some case were borderline fraudulent like the sprinkler valves.

I purchased a mid-century modern home that needed to be renovated including the yard that had been left unattended for several (at least 4) years. I researched and interviewed several companies in the Denver area about what they could do and no other company was as thorough and nice to deal with as JBK. I really had nice landscaping in Dallas and wanted to recreate what I had there here. Alas, the temperatures and climate here do not readily let me have my Azalias and Crepe Myrtle trees. Fortunately JBK walked me through the process of which plants were hardy (and beautiful) and they designed an overall plan for the landscaping that included a look that fit the mid-century modern feel of the house. New sod, remove some overgrown trees, design an extended patio and design beautiful flower beds all around the house both front and back. Even a raised bed vegetable garden and of course sprinkler system for all the beds and yard. I'm so pleased at the final product. From "dusty and tired" to "Landscape Magazine Cover photo ready"
