I was given a tentative diagnosis and an estimated cost via text. When Ben came to do the repair, I was not home, but my mother was present. After the work was completed, my mother called to inform me of the total cost, which was double the estimate I was provided. I asked to speak with Ben to ask for clarification. As soon as I expressed my concern, Ben became highly agitated and began yelling, claiming the higher cost was due to taking everything apart. I had to ask him to stop shouting at me because I was simply trying to understand the charges, not to avoid payment. I also told him that I felt he should have discussed and explained what the problem was and the cost before the repair began, especially given the significant deviation from the estimate. When I told him what I was quoted, he said it was wrong and that he would "chastize" her later. After we hung up, he continued yelling at my mother in our home, then slammed the door after being paid. Once I reviewed the receipt, I noticed the reason the price was different was due to a "service fee". Not the additional labor cost to take everything apart, as Ben mentioned. Elizabeth was actually in the ballpark with the cost for the "repair". She just failed to mention the fee for them to come out. I called Elizabeth to provide feedback and to ask why this fee wasn't disclosed upfront. She said it wasn't mentioned because I "never asked." I guess I wasn't specific enough when I asked how much it would cost for them to come out and fix it. She then put me on speaker, and Ben again became defensive, yelling, and calling me a clown before abruptly ending the call. I understand that estimates can change, but fixed fees should be disclosed and discussed upfront. Treating a PAYING customer disrespectfully when requesting clarification is entirely unacceptable. I caution anyone considering Ben's Appliance.

This is disappointing because I'd like the option to consider all brands based on their performance. Their refusal to sell certain brands seems to mean they aren't focused on value for the customer. Unfortunately, the brands they carry seem to get average or below ratings for performance. Why would I buy poor performing products?

I was told this is the initial cost to look at the unit and anything additional will be for replacement/repair work. I was called and informed that my unit had been tested and nothing seemed to be a problem and that my unit was ready for pick up. Upon pick up, I was informed that I owed an additional "labor cost". Didn't make any sense to me as I paid for diagnostic, which is all they self-admittedly did, and wasn't sure how they rationalized charging "labor" for something that had no "out of scope"/additional work done to it. I expressed my displeasure with the on-site staff who had no coherent explanation as to why I was paying more than our agreed-upon diagnostic rate. He kept saying that they " spent a lot of time testing" and in my mind that is the sellers burden as they sold their ability to do diagnostic for a certain amount. To me it felt sketchy and felt like a half baked business practice. If they had done any amount of work to the unit, I would have no problem paying for labor. I frankly wouldn't had a problem if they said that diagnostic was $100 from the start. I would've liked to agree on a price for a certain project/assessment and have it cost that same amount when said work was complete. I also want to mention that the on-site staff have almost no knowledge of these machines and their functions. They were really just salesman with the service team in back of house. I personally like to speak with technicians about mechanical issues so I have a better understanding of tasks performed, and common issues. Aka real knowledge. Overall, I did not find my visit to be worthwhile or a good investment and frankly left feeling like I was bamboozled. I am not likely to return and would not recommend anyone else go here for repairs/diagnostic.

Updating on 9/17:…read more Mike reached out directly to resolve our issue with our fridge after this review posted. His communication was prompt and responsive, he worked to find a solution and then offered to guarantee his work for a year. While I was frustrated with the initial experience, I appreciate a company that will stand by their service and I feel that's what he's done here. I'm updating our review to reflect the effort given; Thank you, Mike. Original review: A nightmare! I decided to go with this company based off of reviews, and now I'm questioning how they got so many positive ones. We had their technician out (Iosif) for the initial diagnostics, trusted his opinion on what the issue was and decided to move forward with the repair. Made an appointment with him for the repair, which he no called/no showed for. I called their main line after the appointment time had passed, to be told that we were not even on the schedule. The technician reached out to say that the "part was delayed"... but apparently notifying us before the appointment was too much work. Said he would be out the next day. He came out, "fixed" the fridge (NOT fixed, no change to the fridge AT ALL) and scratched our wood floors! I asked why he didn't protect the floors when pulling the fridge out and he stated that he "has never needed to before" and tried to claim that the *very new* scratches must have been old. We literally incurred damage having this company into our home. I reached out regarding the floor and the fact that our fridge shows no change after spending hundreds with them... They have not responded to email regarding the floor and have completely blown us off regarding the fridge repair. A complete waste of money that actually left us with more to fix! Do not use this company!
