Perfect! We parked, fitted for gear, and were on our first chair lift within 30 minutes!! Great time for our family of 4. My son tried snow boarding and the beginner hills were perfect! read more

I would like to start off by saying, I have never written a bad review for any establishment in my life. In fact, I usually contact a manager when I have something good to say and go against the grain to add something positive to someone's day (or career/job). I just returned from a 2 day ski trip here with my 10 year old son. When we purchased our tickets and rentals for the day they asked if we wanted to add a $10 charge per person for tubing, which we accepted. Once we were done skiing, we headed to the tube hill and there was a long line. Since we had a long drive back home, I asked if we could get reimbursed the $20. I also added, I normally wouldn't make such a request but we came out yesterday when there was a snow storm, paid $157 for rentals, lessons and lift tickets and left 30 minutes into our lesson because it was too cold. Since we paid so much yesterday on a day when barely anyone was here, I'm hoping the small request to refund us $20 on a much busier day was more than a reasonable request. Especially, when we didn't go down the hill. The managers response was "you have to understand from my end that I don't know if you went down that hill or not and therefore cannot refund you your money." So in other words, what they said was "You might be a liar and we would rather keep your $20 for an activity you might have participated in, instead of giving your customer the benefit of the doubt and ensuring I come back and spend hundreds every year" I wasn't asking for much. I didn't ask to get reimbursed the $157 I paid the day before when we didn't even stay. I just asked for $20. This is terrible customer service and will not be returning to your establishment again. I will save myself the 2.5 hour drive and ski at Wilmot or Villa Olympia. It's unfortunate because the rest of your staff working the premises was awesome. Everyone from the rental area to the food court. All of that is null in void when your management takes such a position . read more

Sledding hill is the biggest rip off!!! We paid $92 for a family of 4. Waited in line for 2 hours and got to go down the hill 2 times. There are not enough lanes on the hill. Save your $$ and go to Wilmont mountain. Way more runs!! When we did try to leave, our car was blocked in. Not the staff's fault, but I felt very little was done to help us. We had to wait and hour for a tow truck to be called and they didn't even offer us a free hot chocolate or anything. read more

I am giving only two star because of bad snowboard teacher. Her name was Caidy and she admit that this is her first year she teach. She teach us how to turn left and right and after that she took us on the hill and told us to strap two legs and try do slalom left right and that we are ready for it. No we were not ready!!! All of us enough falling bad. She didn't say a word about safety, body position or most important how to stop without hurting itself. My friends and I injured them self, the shoulder and knee due to idea that teacher told us that we are ready to run from bunny with two legs attached. I decided to watch YouTube and practice rest of the evening with only one food attached how to stop the board and reduce speed. At least I did not fell bad again. read more

I hated my day there for a billion reasons but they were very friendly when I complained and refunded my money. I will come back eventually, but not soon. read more

I'm almost afraid to let people know that Cascade Mountain is a great resort about 3 hours north of Chicago. If you complain about price, then skiing isn't the sport for you. These el cheapos apparently haven't skied western states or Canada. There are numerous slopes for every level including long green/blue runs for beginners/intermediates. The black diamond runs are fun and slightly challenging for us experts. The night skiing is pretty good. It is the best mountain in Wisconsin next to Granite Peak which is 2 hours farther north and a much larger mountain. I ski locally in Wisconsin to prep for my yearly ski trips to Utah and really enjoy coming here. Cascade also has a separate hill for those who wish to tube. We haven't tried tubing which looks fun. We typically stay overnight at a hotel in nearby Dells for convenience. Oh and the cheese curds are delicious. I wish that the cafeteria had a wider food selection. read more

Great mountain for this area. Easily accessible, big parking lot, and plenty of facilities on site. Life tickets are $48 for the day but they have all sorts of specials and deals so be sure to look into those. Snow tubing is $22 which I thought was a little ridiculous, I don't want to tube all day long. Lines weren't terribly long, maybe a minute or two wait. Plenty of green and blue runs along the sides, blacks were more in the middle. Tried going to the Daisy Lodge for a beer but it was closed, that was a real bummer! read more

i mean you can't compare oranges to apples. Meaning, youc an't compare to SLC, Colorado to Wisconsin Dells. These are great training slopes. It does get boring for experienced boarders/ skiiers, but you know, what can you do if you live in Chicago. Only three hours away. Can be back home in a day. read more

If you live in the Chicago area and are looking to learn to ski or snowboard, definitely consider Cascade. They have a good mix of runs and have plenty of room for all skill levels - a huge issue for me when I was a beginner at Chestnut since there is very run off room and very narrow runs. I also like that they are close to the Dells, so there are a variety of lodging options. Will definitely be back this winter :-) read more

even though I have anxiety about snowboarding, the helmet helps give me confidence I won't break anything haha. It's always a plus to have your own gear so you only have to pay for the lift/day pass. The bunny hill is WAY too flat, hardly can get any momentum on it. But there's lots of green and blue runs to test out. The time i went, the drop off the lift was really steep and I fell each time. hopefully, when more snow comes in, they'll level that out. places to eat near the middle of the mountain, and also at the bottom of the mountain. Try the hot chocolate with bailey's/khalua, and whipped cream that has alcohol in it...wow. read more

I was very disappointed last night. My family and I went tubing and while we were having a great time, the staff was very rude and not helpful at all. The rules were very unclear and the staff made it worse. They insulted me in a Spanish, expecting me not to know what they were saying. Overall, the staff ruined the trip read more

My first time here. Went with my family for snow tubing at night. We all enjoyed the experience although there were a few hiccups. After paying and getting admittance tickets we discovered not enough tubes available for all the people there. They brought out more tubes in a short time and all was good. We made use of the "magic carpet" up the mountain. Man, that's the only way to go. Although we used the carpet to get up to the top, it broke down after out first trip down the mountain. They were able to fix it, but we still had to make an entire trip up hill by walking up the carpet. That was about a 1000 foot trip uphill -no fun. After they got it working again, there were no more problems. Snack shop was minimal at best. Just a few choices, but acceptable. Kids LOVED going downhill FAST! We will probably come back. read more

What a great midwest ski resort. First let me say the weather was amazing, which always makes an experience better. It was BUSY today given it was all powder and 40 degrees and sunny. But they had lots of staff strategically placed keeping things moving along. We never waited in a lift line for more than 5 minutes. They have lots of seating indoor/outdoor. Love the outdoor firepit! They have lots of chair lifts. Lots of nice runs for beginners or those that like to take a slow long run. Cannot wait to come again! read more

The lessons were great- for both adults and kids. They gave a sufficient start to get going on your own. They have a lot of great runs.

I had never skied or snowboarded before, and I finally decided to try to learn. I took advantage of the Learn to Turn package for snowboarding which only cost about $80 and included a 90 minute lesson and my rentals. I picked up my rentals no problem, and the staff at the rental building was very helpful. Then I was off for my lesson. It was a little frustrating that I was in the same class as snowball throwing 10 year olds. I know that I would have gotten much more out of an adults only class but those don't exist. I would recommend spending the extra money to take a private lesson. After the lesson I grabbed lunch. The food selection was pretty good - all the basic American fast food options are available. Then it was back to falling down on the bunny slope. The slopes were packed, and I found that to be a bit stressful at times. Then when I had had enough, I was able to meet up with friends and watch football at one of the bars! I definitely needed beers to dull the pain I was feeling from the constant falling. I was relieved that there was a place for my to enjoy myself while I was waiting for the rest of my friends to finish on the slopes. read more

3.75++ Had a great time skiing here for the day. The snow wasn't that great but the staff is always nice and the lines were short on the lifts. I'm a snow bunnie but not a dare devil, one day I will be on the black diamond slopes not wiping out with more practice. Nice to get flex tickets and enjoy some quick trips down the snow paths. Still a great place to get your ski - fix - on - a few hours from Chicago. Yes, colorado and michigan and other higher mountains to ski on..but still I heart Cascade...xo read more

I skied here for the first time in early February and I like it so much! There isn't any ski places as good as this one near Chicago. Most of the time I go to Wilmont, but I will definitely go here if I've got time. It has very good view and the trail is much longer. Even it's not very high, but it gives me a feeling of "mountain", not a small "hill". read more

Not as good as Devil's Head. One big freakin hlll for Wisconsin but I like other places better.

I really enjoy skiing here on the winter season. This 2009 year, I barely fell once, until we went tubing and I finally fell and wiped out on the slope. The tubing part is fun. Now you have to stand on the ski lift until you reach the top. I get wind and snow in my face everytime I tube down the slope. After skiing, I got chili cheese fries after I was done skiing. The ski boots are uncomfortable, but ya need 'em. Cascade Mountain is a cool place to shred the slopes and tube the slopes. They even have TVs where they supply the ski boots, poles, and skis. I give this place 4 stars. read more

Between here and Devils Head, Devils Head is better. More main lifts at Devils Head. Cascade does have a high speed quad but the "mountain" here the way all the trails are set up is just bad. People cross crossing each way. read more

Best ski/snowboard mountain in SW Wisconsin! Great food, excellent bar service from April and the snowboarding is second to none!

Although they have plenty of options for skiing and a vast majority of slopes, the ski lift system is horrendous. They close half of the place down at 4:00 (prime time) leaving only 2 ski lifts open. For a place like Wisconsin Dells you need to have more accessibility. This place stinks! When my family and I went, one of the two ski lifts was broken and we were stuck on it for 20 mins. Still descent skiing besides being disorganized read more

Great place to go for the first time. Skiing hurts your knees and ankles a lot but it was fun. Watch out for all the kids that run crazy through the slopes and disregard other people around them.... read more

The skiing was good. Everything for the slopes looked well maintained. There are many longer challenging runs. Some of the best skiing around. The bathrooms left a bit to be desired. What surprised me the most was the lack of decent food. There weren't any healthy choices. It all seemed like cafeteria food at best. It gave a feel of a teenagers hangout more than an upscale ski lodge. read more

Look it's Wisconsin and it's a hill, not aspen. They do a decent job with snow making and grooming. There were plenty of patrollers one Yelp guy said he did t see anybody. Food is bad, bring your own. Overall not a bad place for an afternoon ski read more

Brought a field trip on Friday. Had a great time. Paula in group sales was super. New lifts open. Chair lift operators were friendly.

This place is pretty fun! I went skiing here on a surprisingly warm day. The staff was friendly, though didn't offer me the right ski gear, like gloves etc, and the food was generic and average. If you pack your food though, it's worth a quick trip. read more

Ok, so here is a review on all 3 Madison area ski hills in one. I grew up skiing in the midwest, and have been doing so for nearly 29 years. I have skied all over Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and California. So, this review will be from the point of advanced skier/boarder/tele. I love real double blacks and the backcountry, but I also need to get out and slide on my boards just to get whatever fix I can, as I live in Madison. All of the "black" or "black diamonds" in the midwest are really western blues or blue-blacks (except maybe Damnation up at Mt La Crosse, and a couple of very short blacks and some glades up at Granite Peak/Rib Mountain). This being said, the "blacks" at Cascade (CM) are the best (which is why it gets 5 stars), as compared to Devil's Head (DH) and Tyrol Basin (TB). Cascade, is by far the busiest, but also the easiest to access (especially for IL patrons). Although it is the busiest, the lift capacity (especially high-speed quad) is high enough that it usually isn't any worse than the other hills. Cascade has probably the largest and most varied infrastructure, with 2 lodges at the base and the Daisy lodge up top. One thing that I like about CM is that their best runs, Cindi Pop, Screamin Steven, and Pike (or something like that) are all serviced by the Cindi Pop lift. This segregates out the majority of the beginners, and allows one to take run after run with little in the way of lift line or rental-mentals to dodge, even on busy days (sorry couldn't resist the jab, I realize that I once was also one ;-). Also, North Wall, Mogul Monster, and Manitou have good terrain, all be it generally much busier. Rail features are plenty at CM, but solid kickers or a pipe are generally not present (strangely enough they do have a pipe dragon, but apparently the amount of now that they need to build a pipe, is prohibitive) You will get the longest runs at DH, but they have very little in the way of really steep runs, and I often find my self making very few turns here, so as not to kill the speed which I crave. Skiers far left at DH is where you will find me if I go here. I cant remember the names of the runs, but there are a couple spots that you can drop some small rock out-croppings, and there are a few steep spots here. Most of the blacks at DH are really midwestern blue-blacks. DH does have some of the better kickers that I can remember, and also a solid representation of rails. DH also has a pretty good lodge system and set of bars, as one might expect from a full-out resort setting. I have never rented, so I cannot comment on that. This is probably the most out of the way of the three. Only other complaint with DH, is that it can be a bit spread out, too much skate-skiing to get from one side to the other. If there is fresh snow, DH is even slower, however fresh snow is when I head to TB or CM. When at TB, the skiers far left, lift "C," there is some decent terrain, in between Yodeler and Double Diamond, right down the lift line. If there is enough snow, you can ski some trees with a solid level of steepness. When the snow is deep enough this is my favorite terrain to ski out of the 3 ski areas, however, winters have not been kind lately, so this bliss is increasingly rare. TB also generally has the most varied features and park, which I certainly enjoy (as long as the park is not crowded with tweens, a rare occasion here, since it is the closest to Madison, and has the best lift-ticket deals). TB has the best bar in my opinion, but the lowest marks for overall infrastructure. Also, the parking lot is kind-of a pain at the end of a long ski day. Overall, the 3 Madison area hills are a great option for S Wisconsin and IL people. Chestnut isn't bad in this respect either. Skip Sunburst, Christmas Mt, Alpine (unless it is a concert), etc. and make the trip to CM, TB, or DH. Otherwise head up to Michigan, Indianhead, Mt Bohemia, etal, and stop at Granite Peak on the way. Or head up to Lutsen and stop at Mt Lacrosse, Afton Alps, and/or Welch village on the way. Gotta get it how you can! read more

I recently bought a seasons pass for 450$ so I decided to use it. So I was going down the hill at night around 6:00 and as I was going down the hill, I hit a huge patch of ice and fell. I was in incredible pain, my knee was hurting extremely bad. Also, my ski's fell off and were on another run. The run was closed but I didn't want to do any more walking than I had to. So I put the ski's on on the closed run. I was trying to find help before I fell over. So I decided to go to a nearby lift that was closed also. As I was going down, I was stopped by the ski patrol, they threatened to call the police on me. They told me that the run was closed and I tried explaining to them what happened and how my knee was badly hurt. They said that they didn't want to hear "my bullshit story" and they refused to help my leg!!!!! They clipped my seasons pass which I recently bought for 450 f***ing dollars and told me to walk back to my car!!! So I had to limp/ crawl while hold my skiis and poles and I had to do this for 100 yard before I called my friend. My friend came over, took my skiis and poles for me and helped me up. He then took me to the car and after 20 minutes, we were gone. We then went to the local emergency room and I had to pay over 15,000$ for treatment!!! The doctor said that if I stayed off of it after it was injured, it would be 1/2 the price for the treatment and it also would be 1/3 of the healing time!! So now I'm out 15,450$ and recovering very slowly and painfully. NEVER GO TO THIS HILL EVER!!!!!!!!TERRIBLE PEOPLE read more

Lift staff completely clueless and unqualified to keep the lines SAFE and MOVING. They do not look out for and direct the public on entry or departure thus when there are problems every few minutes, there are falls amongst skiers/boarders. I witnessed each of the lifts function this way--at various times of the day. There's NO EXCUSE. Boarders are allowed to sit 1-3 feet away from those departing the lift, creating an obstacle to those departing the lift. NONE of the staff instructs people to MOVE AWAY once they depart. VERY PRECARIOUS. When lines move slow because they allow singles on quad lifts people get angry-and the lift lines get needlessly backlogged. The backlog creates a pile of people that not only clogs the lift lines but builds and spills into the ski area at the bottom of the slope---so those waiting in line become a TARGET for those skiing down. SO DANGEROUS!!! read more

I took my wife here for her first time on skis. This was actually a great place for her to learn the pizza and not feel bad about falling as most of the people out here were relatively new to the sport. We rented boots/skis for $37 and got a discounted full day lift pass for $25. I presume the discount was due to the limited number of runs available. 3 by my count. 1 green, 1 blue, 1 black. It was a very warm December day and snow has been sparse this year I guess. They make their own snow here as well. The runs were fun and not icey for the most part. The staff was extremely friendly and lots of folks on the slopes were helpful to beginners. We will be back. Only knock on this place was the limited number of runs but for a quick car ride from Chi I can't complain much. read more

We spent 2 days there on the slopes and we loved every minute of it. It was our first time there and we will be back. We are snowboarders. We had excellent service at the ticket window, rentals, gift shops, restaurants, and lift attendants. Real BIG hats off to rentals, especially, because my hubby's bindings broke on his personal board and they fixed it for him for free and within 2 minutes so he could get back on the slopes. The trails were nice. Day 1 we got to see the slopes without snow fall and it was perfect. Day 2 it snowed for hours and it was again perfect. Lines moved really fast at lifts. The attendants were on it, even when people fell getting on or getting off. They moved very quickly. Fire works show to bring in the New Year was beautiful and much longer than I expected; it was a real fire works shows . Loved that they were open until midnight New Years Eve. I picked Cascade because KIDS ARE FREE! Couldn't get any better. We will be back!!! read more

The ski lessons were terrible. My wife and son came here for their first skiing trip. They learned nothing from the eccentric ski instructor. The runs were good but half of the mountain didnt have lights! I think ill head to Devil's Head next time! read more

Pathetic place. Never going back. Extremely rude staff - mostly a bunch of cranky teenagers. The grown ups are not that different. The runs were good but the ski lessons were AWFUL! Our instructor didn't even teach us how to pick ourselves up after you fall. It took us forty five minutes just to learn how to put on a ski. This being my first time skiing, I learned more from the ski patrol who helped me up after I wiped out! These lessons were a MONUMENTAL waste of money!! I would not recommend anyone purchasing these lessons unless they enjoy flushing money down the toilet. read more

We planned trip to Cascade Mounting this week and this was our first ski trip so we took lessons. The training area was so crowded with all the people taking pictures in the middle of ski area, it was too congested for someone who is new to skiing and we kept falling because of people getting in our way. There is no proper training area that is free of bystanders who are more interested in taking pictures than their own safety. We were very disappointed specially after spending $90 for just 4 hrs of ski. Management also cheated us by telling different price on the phone and their website than what was offered to us. We were told packaged price of $55 for lessons, rental and trolley and ended up paying $89 per person. I would not recommend this place to someone who is new to skiing and trying get into this sport. read more

Zero stars is actually more than they deserve. Overcrowded hill, no ski patrol in sight makes for dangerous skiing conditions. I got hit by an out of control snow boarder and when I attempted to get a refund for my second day of skiing that I had already paid for, they refused. They pointed to the fine print on the ticket that said it was non refundable. They also said that since I had not gone into the ski patrol hut and had instead a patroller come to me (I was in no condition to move at that time) that I couldn't get a refund voucher. So here I am, concussion headache fully raging arguing with a manager who invited me to review them wherever I want. The takeaway? Cascade ski hill cares nothing for their customers well being or safety and only truly cares about making a buck. In addition, their food is terrible and the lines are insanely long. If you must come here, screw them out of every dollar and bring your own food. Have a nice day and go ski Granite Peak or any other hill. read more
