We rented two of the cabins and the amount of space inside was perfect for this family of 4! Each kid got their own loft, we had a bed with wonderful space. The number of things to do while there was perfect for the ADHD kids and the ability to sit and watch them do ALL THE THINGS was perfect for this tired momma! We played mini-golf at 6:45 am, horseshoes at 6:54 am, and playground at 7 am to just start all over again (multiple times)! Definitely plan your drinking schedule with the fact that the bathroom is not in the cabin but still close! We had s'mores on the fire pit and two nights of BBQ! We even swam in the lake and the kids LOVED the inflatables (even the 40-year-old fat dudes got out there). The owners were incredible and friendly. Really can see that they care and have built a wonderful community. We will be back!

We stayed here with a group of 15 other camping units in June 2021…read more We will not return. Best for primitive campers who don't need electricity or clean bathrooms/showers. Shower cost $0.25. Best for RV campers who enjoy the challenge of a non-level site and have access to unlimited leveling blocks. Electricity hasn't been updated from original installation 50+ years ago. (Seriously, it's from the 60's). Cannot support advertised 30 amp service. 15 amp service was questionable at best. RV's with a fridge or water heater, expect to use your propane. A/C is not supported, and usage within any camper on your block blows the main fuse. Eventually the owner replaces the fuse after an hour, and the process repeats. No compensation or refunds are available. There is a $10 deposit for any reservation. The rest is paid on arrival. The owner will pressure for payment while campers are actively setting up on their site. There is a pool. You can use it... Trees are not maintained with in the campground. Many low branches, dead and alive. Roads are not suitable for larger campers or Any Big Rig. Many large, dead hanging branches within the campground. Pavilion/shelter for rent: Not available upon arrival, after reserving a year in advance. The pavilion is a garage that is mostly full.

Noting here, there's not much by way of hiking paths, mud lake is not swimmable, and they don't offer recycling collection. -There is a great bike trail onsite -Mud Lake (also onsite) seems to be great for fishing and tooling around in a small boat -It's quiet and campers seem to be respectful of one another. -The old Savannah Oak trees are beautiful and offer just enough shade to many (but not all) of the campsites. -This campground is not maintained on a daily basis, so the grass was a little overgrown and the pit toilets could have been slightly cleaner. There are also no garbage cans in the pits, but a dumpster in the parking lot. This campground is made for a more rustic camper, as it has less amenities than your typical state park campground. Noting here, these are all walk-in sites with the exception of the group site. There are pit toilets and a well for water, but no other facilities.

Only about 30 minutes from Madison this campground offers a pretty tranquil camping experience given it's location and especially given that it's a State campground. No RV's allowed and you have to trek in all your gear 50-100 yards from the parking lot. Not a huge deal, but apparently inconvenient enough that a lot of people take a pass (fiiiine by me!). I think it's great not having any cars rumble past your campsite at night. All I heard was a rooster and a cow (this isn't exactly the wilderness, people, more like farmland). Set in a grove of old stately oak trees, each campsite has a fire ring and a picnic table. Some are definitely on the sunny side, so feel free to call up the ranger to make sure you end up where you want to. There are bathrooms (well, porto-potties) and well water near the parking lot. You will not be finding any firewood on your own, you'll need to buy it from somewhere local. The gas station sells bundles for $5 but an even better deal is the boy scout troop who sells daily at the campsite. Their number is posted upon your entry so just give them a call to find out what time they're coming by. The campground was only partially full when I was there one August weekend and the ranger said that it usually only fills up (or close to it) on holiday weekends or when there is an event at some nearby concert venue. BOTTOM LINE: I hesitated to even write this review because I don't want this secret jewel to become overrun. Good stuff!!

During our…read morestay, we ran into an unexpected (and honestly stressful) situation when our camper's toilet clog and therefore overflowed, and could have easily ruined our trip--but thanks to the kindness and generosity of the owners, it turned into something we'll never forget for all the right reasons. Without hesitation, they stepped in to help us manage the situation and went far above and beyond what anyone would expect. Not only did they offer support and reassurance, but they generously provided us with a cabin for the night--completely free of charge--so we could sleep for the night , regroup, and not have to worry. Their compassion, responsiveness, and genuine care for their guests truly set this place apart. It's rare to find people who treat you less like customers and more like neighbors or friends. Because of them, what could have been a disaster became a reminder that there are still incredibly kind people out there. We are beyond grateful and will absolutely be returning--and recommending this campsite to anyone looking for not just a great place to stay, but truly exceptional people behind it. Thank you again for everything--you made a lasting impression on our family and you will always be our number one place to stay!

We had no phone/internet service the whole time we were there, even though it is posted that they offer it. There was a sign posted that wifi works 30 ft from the office, did not work on any of our devices even at the dining area right next to the office. If you are looking for a nice, quiet, relaxing camping trip DO NOT go here over the weekend. The people that own their own go carts are reckless and irresponsible especially the teens that go way too fast in between the sites. There were a lot of children around and it was nerve wracking watching these people go so fast. They have tons of amenities and some are included, but most cost extra. They have a well stocked store, prices are high! They have showers in public areas, but they charge $ to use them. We had a scary incident with our 12 yr old daughter. She was outside with her friend when two teenage boys approached them on our campsite with scary clown face mask and ski masks on. I did mention it to management who said she would check with security, whom we never saw the whole time we were there. Of course, security never saw anything like that because teens are teens. The VIP sites are nice and level with a table, grill and a cement slab. Be warned there are no onsite sewer hook ups at the individual sites. There is a dump station that you can use by the office. They also have a truck that will come to your camper and empty your tanks for a small fee ($20). If you stay 4 nights it is complimentary. If we were to ever stay again, it will not be on the weekend.
