We returned to Cascade Mountain again to build up the legs for maybe a Colorado ski trip. We went twice in 2024 - the first time was on February 2, and the conditions were warm - lots of crud (wet snow) on the slopes since it rained the day before. However, if you go to BDub and ski there, there was still corduroy groom marks on A Wall and B Dub runs, and a LOT less crud. The food at the restaurant is pre-prepared and on a warming rack for the most part. Bottled water is $4 a bottle, and even lettuce tomato and onion are $1.75. That makes a cheeseburger $9.50, which seems a bit steep for what you get. The second visit was on February 9, and there was a lot less crud on the slopes. The weather was cooler as well. Again, going towards BDub lift and taking advantage of the less traveled slopes of A Wall, B Dub and Ewok yielded more corduroy to ski on for most of the day. The disadvantage to BDub is it isn't a high speed lift, but the lift lines were quite reasonable. Remember, this is a CASHLESS resort, so either bring your credit / debit cards, or you can convert your cash to a card in many locations in the resort. We got our lift tickets online both days, with no problems. read more

This place is always so incredibly busy and don't even bother trying to go tubing. No where online does it say they sell out of tickets and so anytime you want to go it is a complete gamble if you will even be able too. I will never go back to this mountain and with wilmont and Christmas being near by I highly recommend not even having this be an option as a place to do anything. Not to mention the customer service at the tubing town was very rude and spreading false information. If I could I would give this negative stars I would. read more

As a newbie to snowboarding, I found this place perfect for beginners. The green bunny hill was just right for my skill level. Unlike the magic carpet, where you catch speed and then hit nothing, this hill was consistent throughout and not too intense. A great spot for beginners! read more

Cascade Mountain overall is a 3 star Ski Resort. To start off trying to park is horrendous because of there system they have in place, but once you walk in it's very welcoming. The food they offer is at best mediocre and you should probably bring your own food. The lift wait times at the main area are not worth it and I recommend going to the lifts on the far side near the tubing area. The mountains overall are fairly tall and long with multiple trails varying in difficulty, but there are some problems. These problem include, snow becoming super icy, to much snow in some areas, snow becoming slushy, and etc. Also I've heard complaints about the employees, but I didn't experience any of that. Overall this is a good Ski Resort for beginners and people with experience, but you might experience some problems with the snow quality. read more

My sister and I decided to learn how to ski this winter and chose Cascade as the hill to learn on! We took the evening beginners learn to turn lesson. Our group lesson had 8 people in it with one instructor, who did a fantastic job of teaching a group of all different people with different athletic abilities. We were fortunate that there were only adults in our lesson, as it is possible to have children in a group lesson as well. By the end of the night we felt confident to do a green run! We rented equipment through Cascade and felt that the rental process went smooth and there was adequate selection to accommodate our needs. We received a discounted rate which included night skiing with the beginners lesson and equipment rental (thankfully!) normal lift ticks cost around $60 and $40 for equipment rental (Kids do ski free with paying adults). The only downfall that I encountered is that Cascade can get quite crowded. As a less experienced skier, the last thing I want to do is hit (or be hit by) a child while on the hill. read more

Absolutely sad excuse for a ski resort. Make sure you buy tickets online even during non peak weekdays. Website will mislead you thinking you can purchase a lift ticket on site but they'll say they're sold out with 3/4 of the parking lot empty. In the 30 minutes I tried talking to someone no one came to the front desk. Then had a delightful experience with the little curly haired fire crotch in the line for the online services. He told me I was sadly mistaken if I think I could walk on day of at " the vail of the Midwest bruh". I walked out to my car to see that someone hit it and left. I came here with friends on a Saturday around 11AM to enjoy a day full of skiing. I wasn't disappointed! Cascade Mountain is a great option for beginner/intermediate skiers and snowboarders. To begin with, I paid $110 for a day lift pass and ski/boot rentals. Not too bad! FYI kids 12 and under get a free lift ticket with a paid adult or junior. Everyone working there was extremely helpful and friendly; I was able to find everything I needed quickly and hit the slopes. Considering we were going on a Saturday, we expected it to be packed. It wasn't too busy and our wait for a lift wasn't more than 10 minutes. We got a lot of skiing in for the price so I felt it was well worth it. Like the other reviews mention, the food in the lodge isn't anything special but it does hit the spot after a long day of skiing. If you're pickier about that, maybe bring your own food or wait to eat after. The lodge had plenty of seating and had hot chocolate, which is really all I cared about. Overall I really liked my experience skiing at Cascade Mountain and will be back again :) read more

F*** this place. On Christmas Eve it was a complete sheet of ice. It's like they didn't even bother grooming the night before. The snow makers were on but only on runs that weren't yet open. Point them on your icy runs that people are actually skiing/riding on too! After one run I demanded a refund because it was unacceptably icy. They were rude about it but eventually gave me a gift card with $124 on it which was the price of that days two lift tickets. At the time I was happy, I had a future day of skiing for two paid for, or so I thought. My GF and I were frustrated cuz we already had our gear on so we decided to check out Devil's Head down the road. Low and behold, just like when I was a kid in the 80's and 90's, it was MUCH better, like night and day better. They had WAY more snow, half as many people, the runs were soft, not icy and the snow makers were blowing on the runs which made for some fun fresh turns in some areas, soft corduroy in others. On a more recent day at DH (Devils Head) I talked to some late arrivals that had been denied at SOLD OUT, sh** show Cascade just prior LMAO. They got their DH tickets last minute online on the drive over from Cascade. Fast forward to Wednesday 1/20/2021 at Cascade. My $124 gift card didn't even cover two lift tickets because now they're $75 not $62! Apparently the 8 hour ticket that was available on Xmas Eve was no longer available but I call BS. How is a non holiday weekday more expensive than a holiday? This was just a greedy way to make us pay $13.50 each for that icy run on Xmas Eve. Oh and they close the best terrain at 3:40 NOT 4:00. DH has WAY more terrain open at night. Don't waste your time here, go to Devil's Head or Granite Peaks. "Kids ski free" and "right off the highway" both amount to crazy CROWDS, prices and ALWAYS ICY! read more

In a 4-way death match between Devil's Head, Alpine Valley, Chestnut, and Cascade, Cascade wins hands down. You'll get the most variety of runs here, and the staff (in the parking lots, manning the chair lifts, and at the ticket windows) is enthusiastic and helpful... although, if you ask a staffer how he's doing at his chair lift station at the base of the mountain, you might just get a "bored" response. An 8 hour lift ticket will cost you just under $50. Makes for a great day out on the slopes in the Midwest! read more

My husband and I have been snow tubing here twice now and had a great time! The staff are very friendly. There's a building to warm up in with restrooms and refreshments. There's a conveyer belt type ramp that carries you and your tube up the hill which is a great feature! The only downside is that it is a bit pricy. read more

Loved this ski hill!! The only down side is the price. $250 for all day skiing for 3 of us but well worth every penny. Plenty of space for beginners to intermediate skiers with 3 lifts serving these hills as well as one small magic carpet to start up. Learned to snowboard here yesterday and the hills were reasonable enough that I could use 3 of the lifts even as a first time snowboarder. What was nice is that one lift serves access to easy, moderate and advanced slopes so I could ski/snowboard and ride the the lift with my boys who were upping the ante on the more difficult slopes. This is the only real mountain that is driveable from Chicago, Madison, and Milwaukee, so it's monopolized. I've gone skiing in the northeast and west, and it was cheaper than this. Rentals and lift tickets were just not worth it. It's a mountain in the Midwest. It was sad if you've seen anything else. But it got my adrenaline out and was fun! Lifts and runs were open, but it was SO crowded on a Saturday. The lines were so so long, honestly don't think I'd come back on the weekend. Otherwise, good area to give skiing a try. read more

The people here are exceptional! I was a first time skiier who was scared and really thought it was the worst thing I had ever done. Had private lessons with Jenna who I absolutely recommend! By the end of the hour I had confidence, could walk in them, wear boots comfortably, turn, stop, get on and off lifts and slow myself down. It was truly amazing how patient she was and good at explaining things. I recommend her to anyone! What started as a miserable trip turned into the best weekend. The resort is clean, fantastic bar and bar staff, decent food and easy parking. Great location for all levels. We will be back! Big thanks to Jenna and the staff! read more

Would not recommend this hill to anyone in any skill level. For beginners this hill had minimal "bunny hill" runs. Intermediate riders have a selection of 3 hills that are jam packed with people (I went on a weekday from morning to evening). Experts have absolutely nothing at this hill. The terrain park here was non existent. Lastly, the value is terrible. Rentals and lift tickets are overvalued and They will charge you full rental if you need just 1 item. Great place for skiing. They have equipment rentals, lift cost and instructor fee that you can bundle-up. You can bring your own equipment to avoid rental fee. They have different hills for beginners to experts. It's mix of natural and fake snow. Overall nice facility closer to St Louis among other options. This was my first time at Cascade Mountain, and I really recommend it. A great resort if you are new to skiing, or not expert. I'm an intermediate skiier, but hadn't been in several years. I found the rental process very seamless (and fast), the quality of the skis and boots were solid, and the mountain has a lot of options. I skiied all day, and the snow was great. I think I used almost every lift, and appreciate that they recently opened up the south part of the Mountain with a new lift and 3 new trails (including the Ewok trail). The trails are also clearly marked with signs. I had lunch at the lodge midway up the mountain (cheese curds!), and also enjoyed the cafe at the base. All in all, a great time, and not a bad drive coming up from Chicago (highway all way). read more

I came here towards the end of December, the Saturday before Christmas, with a few friends and it was packed, but not too bad...no wait on paying for your lift ticket and rentals.. Rental Pick-up: I've been to a different Ski resort in the past where there's literally not much sitting space to put on your rental equipment, but this place gives you a lot of room & sitting space to put your equipment on and there's always an employee that is willing to help you with putting on the equipment or getting you a different size or answering any questions that you may have regarding the rentals.. Lockers: provided at a cost of either $1.00 (or $2..i forget) in quarters .. **make sure you bring quarters or get some change when you pay for your lift ticket! Costs: I got a package deal for snowboarding, lift tickets (8 consecutive hrs), and rentals at a price of around $89.00 Ski/Snowboarding Lessons: group lessons for either skiing or snowboarding if you are 1st timer or need a refresher (like me)...the lesson ranges from 1hr-1.5+hrs...they basically just show you the basics of skiing & snowboarding, but you can't really learn learn unless you go on the slopes (my opinion).. I took a group snowboarding lesson which were provided by 2 high school guys (they're good at snowboarding)..they were friendly, encouraging and very informative...lessons are recommended if it is your first time... Parking: as you enter the parking lot, employees will direct you to the appropriate parking spot, there's plenty of parking spots..although if you arrived late..then you might have a little more of a walk to get to the resort or from the car to the resort.. not an extremely long walk or anything though.. Slope options: there's 4 slopes to choose from..from bunny hill to black diamond... yes you need to get on the lift for the bunny hill.. I would come here again to snowboard.. friendly and helpful employees and no major issues with anything.. :) read more

I really like Cascade Mountain. Solid hills and great grooming. It's literally right off the highway so super easy in and out. For midwest snowsports it does the trick. Only setback is they have no onsite lodging. I find that a bit odd, but again, it is what it is. Weekday riding is the best as the crowds are a little less hectic to navigate and the hills stay in better shape. The high speed lift also gets you up and down quickly to allow for more 1 minute runs. The bar/restaurant is good and gets the food/drink fix done fright. You can get to this place pretty quick and that is a plus. read more

Came here with some of my girlfriend's co-workers one day. Never been to this mountain and I'm not much of a snowboarder, but I had a great time here! The check in and rental was an easy process, thr gear was pretty solid to a noob. The variation of hills were great. My girlfriend stayed in the smallest hill and I gravitated to the next level areas. The ski lifts were plentiful as well. The mountain was pretty wide so getting to certain hills was a bit of a challenge, but not enough to seriously bother me. I tried the cafeteria food and it was surprisingly good. I probably ate too much of it and bloated myself up. I wouldn't come here just for food, but it hits the spot for needing fuel while boarding. My brother and nephew did the "Learn a Lifetime Sport" package in January and loved it. My older son snowboards, so I took my little guy out for the February session (one day/week for 4 weeks) and had a blast. I had never been on skis before, so I was quite green. The instructors are VERY good (and patient) and before too long, we were skiing. As part of the package, you get an hour of lesson per outing plus rentals and a lift ticket for the night - so stay after the lesson and practice! That's where I applied my newfound knowledge and got better for the next week. For the last day out, I brought my snowboarder and the three of us had a great father/sons day out on the slopes. There is a nice variety of runs. The green runs are very nice and not TOO easy. They're challenging enough that you can work on your technique without killing yourself. The blue runs are decent, though in lesser conditions can be daunting to the noobs... I suspect earlier and mid-season, they're not so fast and crazy. The food is okay - it's there if you need it. There is plenty of locker space to stash your belonging without battling a crowd. If you rent, I recommend using the lockers by the rental equipment and not by the Lodge... That will save you some walking with your equipment... read more

It was my first time skiing and I felt like the staff was very helpful. They suggested shoe sizes and for me to take lessons. I had Bob as my teacher and he was very good. He teaches you the basics like how to turn, stop, and skiing etiquette. After that, we went on our own on all the green trails and one blue one (Badger Bowl). It was so much fun. I wiped out so many times but still loved the experience. read more

Went here for snowboarding recently, and I have to start by saying I am a complete noob when it comes to any snow sports. So be aware! I have nothing to compare my experience here to, so it may be a little biased... Opted for the "Learn to Turn" package which included an 8 hour flex ticket, rentals, and a group lesson. It was $89, which was only $8 more than just the flex ticket & rentals. The group lesson was well worth the $8, it lasted about 1.5 hours and covered some of the basics of snowboarding. The staff here was exceptional; always helpful & eager to give tips. Even while in the indoor dining area starting out by putting the lift tickets on our coats an instructor noticed & came up to us to show us where & how to put it on (suggesting I attach it to my pocket zipper instead of my front zipper so it wouldn't flap in my face - something simple but I had no idea about). Wiped out a few times just coming off of the ski lifts, and the attendants there also gave us a few pointers. The instructors we had for snowboarding were also really friendly and attentive. Down to the details, the place was clean. The rental equipment was decent (as far as I can tell being a newbie). They had 50-cent lockers near the rental area to store any valuables. There was a fire pit. They had plenty of staff, more specifically plenty of helpful, friendly, & knowledgeable staff. Location was fairly convenient, just off the highway and not too far to make a day or weekend trip. I had a great experience here as someone completely new to snowboarding, and the staff here made it very enjoyable. read more

Rude lift attendants. I'm sure Cascade is decent enough for the area and I even recall having fun skiing there when I was younger. Although, there is often more cross-country skiing/ski skating than downhill skiing due to the long expanses of flat areas. That aside, one of the lift attendants was particularly rude and it still bothers me, which is why you get to read this one-star review. It seems my facemask had come down when skiing downhill. Upon seeing this, a particular lift attendant *screamed* at me to pull it up even though I was still 6 feet from anyone else. The way he yelled like he was publicly scolding someone was pretty annoying. However, it got worse. As I immediately tried removing my glove to fix my mask and not less than 2 seconds later after the first scolding, he screamed, "Do it now!" like he was scolding a child. Rude. Very rude. Completely rude. This is despite the fact that I am extremely cautious about COVID and wear a Vogmask, which is rated much higher than any generic cloth mask (look it up). Heck, I was even worried about my parents eating in the chalet, as there were many people hanging out inside, lounging around, not wearing facemasks even when they were not eating or drinking. Not to mention I have to walk through those COVID infested areas to use the restroom. I guess that's why the attendant's rudeness got to me so much, as I am one of the most conscientious people I know about COVID, possibly because my best friend had a lung transplant a little over a year ago, and would be a guaranteed corpse if he caught it. Cascade: Please advise your employees to not be rude. I don't know what that lift attendant's issue was, but he should see a psychiatrist for some meds about his anger problems. read more
