The restaurant tends to have a long wait time so we decided to check it out on a rainy Tuesday hoping to not have a long wait. The restaurant was empty so we looked forward to great service. We sat down and received our menus and complimentary chips and salsa. Salsa did not taste homemade and seems to be processed. After finishing the chips we received no drinks and the waitress had not stopped by for our orders. Once placed we learned we picked popular combos (3&7). Food arrived and I was not impressed. Food was hot but didn't not taste authentic. Rice was hard and they used a Mexican cheese blend instead of fresh Mexican cheese that I was looking forward to in Mexican restaurant. They have a very extensive menu that doesn't serve alcohol. What we had... - Chorizo tacos for me -Shrimp tacos for her While sharing a side of rice & beans, plus a large order of maduros. Just place your order inside and you can wait there or outside. We chose waiting in our car and the young lady brought it right to us within 10 minutes. The food is fine but service is always lacking. This business always just gets one young kid to work the front. Today I was here for 35 minutes before getting water. There was another table here and 2 customers came for pick up. So our chips were done way before drinks came. The owners don't really have a system for taking care of orders and indoor dining. It's not the kid's fault, you can see them trying but there isn't an organized process. You'll be happiest with pickup but paying may still take some time. Going back to the food, it's just pretty good Mexican food though better than Rosalita's, the service just doesn't have the people power nor organized process. Looking to eat locally, and interested in trying out some Tex-Mex food, me and my sister visited Casa Pelaez. Located in a small strip mall off of a main road, Casa Pelaez is a pretty large restaurant with comfortable spacious seating and plenty of ambient sunlight. We appeared to be the first customers for a Saturday lunch service, so we were greeted and seated promptly. Served first was a complimentary basket of corn chips and salsa. The chips were pleasantly crunchy, and the accompanying fresh chunky salsa was nicely flavored. Our starter was the garden salad which I enjoyed a lot due to the variety of fresh crispy vegetables such as lettuce, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, and carrots. The ranch dressing served on the side was okay (thankfully not overly rich), but nothing special. My sister decided to compliment her meal with one of Casa Pelaez's fresh fruit drinks choosing the "All Berry Mix" of blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. It was an awesome drink; so refreshing and not too sweet as no sugar was added. Onto the entrees..... Looking to spice things up I chose the fiery sounding "Plato a la Diabla" with ribeye steak as my protein. The Ribeye was served in several thick slices bathed in what was described on the menu as an "extra spicy roasted dry pepper red sauce". Indeed for most people that description is apt, and being a lover of hot & spicy food I found the heat level very enjoyable. The slices of steak were fine; cooked to a medium temperature, still tender, and some pieces having a nice thin layer of tasty fat. The sides of rice, beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, and tortillas were all acceptable; providing a bit of cooling contrast and starch to soak up the Diabla sauce. My sister chose combination platter #9, consisting of two enchiladas (with chicken as her protein), two hard shell ground beef tacos, and a tamale. She found the portions adequate (neither skimpy nor overly generous), as we usually have some form of leftovers, but she finished her entire platter (I did sample a bit of everything she had though). Enchiladas were pretty good, with a nice ratio of chicken to the other ingredients, and the cheese was nicely melted. The hard shell American style tacos were intriguing as neither of us have eaten this style of taco in ages. It was interesting to get that crunch coupled with the lettuce, shredded cheese, and ground beef. However, beyond the novelty of a crunchy shell, it was just an okay taco. The chicken tamale was quite yummy and light (for a tamale), as I think another protein like beef or pork would have been heavier. Tex-Mex food is not a cuisine I crave, so I don't think I'd be back, but if you like Tex-Mex, Casa Pelaez is a solid choice. read more

I absolutely love the food here, everything is amazing. The problem with Casa Pelaez is that they NEVER answer their phones before 1:00 PM. the website states that they open at 11:00 AM. On multiple occasions I've called for lunch 6-12 times no answer. To the point that i go in and order in person, complain about them not answering and still nothing. If you are looking for authentic Mexican fare, this is not the place for you. But if you want a great atmosphere with nice people and great food, give this place a try! What you'll get if you eat here is yummy Tex-Mex Fusion. The chef owner is Cuban so there's tostones and maduros on the menu. And the pork tamales have a Cuban flair with spicy Mexican red sauce. I would suggest you try one, as sometimes we go just to have them! The traditional Tex-Mex stuff is all there, tacos, fajitas, flautas, burritos, and they are all good. My family likes the ground beef over the chicken but we're definitely carnivores. Another of our favorites is the choriqueso, their take on quest with chorizo, so good...but not for the waistline! Okay food. It wasn't fresh at all. I got the burrito. My partner got the tacos. Both had meat that seemed like it was microwaved from the day before. Not what I am really interested when I am eating. I'm disappointed because I felt like it could be a solid Tex Mex place but you are better off going to Chipotle honestly. It's BYBO so we grabbed some Corona across the street at the liquor store, was excited to have it with salsa and guac but was disappointed that guac was not fresh, tasted packaged with no flavor and had a brown tinge like it was sitting out. BUMMER..Please, we want you to stay in business gotta fix the guac! They were kind enough to share a bottle opener and gave us some limes for our Corona.NICE! Street tacos were tasty we had both steak and pulled pork..nicely seasoned and not too skimpy on meat but would have loved some sour cream. Very exciting to have a "Quality Mexican Restaurant" in Parlin, NJ! We've eaten here three times, all three times were "Dine In". The restaurant has been completely renovated/updated to reflect a modern Tex-Mex vibe. It's very clean and comfortable. The staff are really friendly and attentive! The "Veggie Quesadilla" is delicious...filled with freshly roasted vegetables and cheese. The great thing about the Tacos is that you can choose "Tex-Mex Style " or "Mexican Street Style "...the latter, a more traditional preparation has quickly become my go to! I always go for the "Fish Tacos", I prefer Flounder (Deep Fried) versus the Tilapia (Not Deep Fried). They come topped with onions, cilantro and a delicious House Sauce. Salsa Verde, Sliced Radish and Lime Wedges on the side! The "Chicken Tacos" are equally delicious. They also serve a wide variety of beverages, including authentic Mexican sodas. If you plan on dining in, the decor is very eclectic, with a strong Mexican vibe (makes sense). All the tables and chairs are different shapes and sizes. We used to eat at the Mexican restaurant they owned when it was in old Bridge on Englishtown Road. The food was great. My wife and I just went to this new restaurant in Parlin right off of Route 35 on Ernston Road. The tacos and enchiladas were incredibly good. This is the best Mexican food I've had and n the USA. If you like real authentic Mexican food, you are going to love this place. The owners are really really nice people too. It's a husband and wife, and they are just the nicest people. The bad thing about small places like this is that there's a serious problem setting the right expectations, specially when it comes to time management. After sitting at our table for just about an hour, we questioned how much longer it would take, then we're told the order was going to be started in 10 more minutes. I love this place! What a little gem. It's hard to find a good Mexican place where the food isn't dried out and the restaurant isn't just a little hole in the wall. The chicken and steak come juicy and very well seasoned. The corn tortillas are out of this world. I swear whenever I pick up food, I eat the tortillas on my way home as I'm driving because I just can't even wait. My only comment is that you have to be very specific when you order because I think the girls in front aren't that experienced. I ordered the burrito bowl once with just lettuce and without rice without realizing that no protein comes on it and I wish they would've asked if I wanted something on it because when I got home, I had shredded lettuce and beans and pico in a container. Thank god they also messed up where I said "2 chicken tacos" and gave me two ORDERS of chicken tacos because I ended up eating that haha. We had not been here in quite a few months and decided to go tonight - a Friday night. Place was empty, we were told sit anywhere and we proceeded to sit for a good 10 minutes before the woman came to our table with menus. She did not take our drink order - she came back with chips and salsa and still did not take our drink order. When the food arrived we finally got water and silverware. My salad was supposed to have corn and black beans on it and avocado. I got a tiny side cup of guacamole because she said they can't get avocados and other supplies. I counted 7 black beans in my entire salad, 4 grape tomatoes halved, and about a teaspoon of corn, otherwise it was all lettuce and cucumbers. The bacon on the salad ( 1 strip cut up) was rancid and I had to remove it. We will never eat there again read more

We took two bites of our food and the server didn't think to ask if anything was wrong. We aren't ones to complain so we paid and just won't return. Our drinks arrived within 2-3 minutes after ordering and our waitress was very prompt and accommodating. Started to get busier towards end of the night and service was a little on the slower end but that's expected for busy establishment. All of the appetizers were phenomenal and nicely portioned and presented as well as came out in timely manor. Dinner took a little longer but was also very good and tasty. My only complaint was everything was an up charge and additional but not a big deal just not worth the extra charging. Pricing was very reasonable otherwise. Located in the quick check plaza on Ernston Rd. Staff was very friendly, welcoming and informed me the food wait is 30 mins before doing take out (greatly appreciated). Ordered the steak and chicken fajitas( substituted for pork and steak), fish tacos, the carnitas flautas, & choriqueso. Great surprise right down the street! I haven't had any "real" Tex Mex since I moved back to Jersey from Texas. I got the Chimichanga and Enchilada combo. For me, nothing says Tex Mex like a Chimichanga does. The one that I got was flavorful and spiced perfectly. There was one little problem, it was a little doughy for my taste, maybe a little more time in the fryer. The Enchiladas were exactly what I wanted them to be!
