This place is amazing! Definitely some of the best Mexican food in the area. The food is authentic, tasty, and fresh. The rice and beans were phenomenal, as were the huevos rancheros and tacos. They were able to make bean tacos even though it's not on the menu. I highly recommend adding avocado, because why not! The also give you salsa verde with your order which is mild and awesome, as well as some super spicy salsa. I ordered delivery and it came in under 30 minutes. Amazing! read more

This place is definitely NOT closed. I go here all the time and it's still called Tropico. Food is great and highly definitely recommend. Their rice and beans is the best in the area. The only complaint I have is sometimes they don't have the Guava Jarritos, which I loved to get because they were the only ones that had it, and last time I went they were down to like one refrigerator because the other one crapped out on them. Restaurante Trópico is a local business that can be easily missed in Keyport. The furniture is uninspiring but there is a nice painting that takes up an entire wall. The menu is what one would expect from a Mexican restaurant. I tried the the chicken burrito and it was delicious. The chicken was seasoned well and everything in the burrito paired well. The rice and beans were a nice addition to the burrito. I'm excited to come back here and try other items. read more

I came in having high expectations. it was alright. i saw the lady's working didnt understand too much english so since i know spanish i spoke it and i guess they understood less. i bought the mozzarella sticks it was alright and i had horchata it was pretty good. the nachos on the other hand wasn't good. i ate it because im not the type to waste food but it was lacking seasonings and it was very plain. i would rate this place a 4/10 and mainly because customer service isnt as good either. read more

If your heading down broad street toward the water don't miss this great place on the left. We placed our order and it was ready when they said. Friendly service on the phone and when we walked in. The take out was delicious and fresh. We have now been here twice and very happy both times. This is our new favorite for Mexican cuisine. The portions were great and garnished well. So far we have tried the nachos with shrimp, fresh made guacamole with homemade chips, shrimp tacos, elpastor tacos and chicken enchiladas. We would order all of these again. Can't wait to return. read more

Food is just ok. Chips were cold, rice was tasteless, and beans were ok. Burritos were decent. Burritos didn't have rice inside which we actually liked because - less carbs. Salsa verde was pretty good too. However, we won't be back here. 3 stars is being generous. read more

The food is always terrific in this little neighborhood eatery. Antonio is the star of the show and makes sure that every customer is made happy and comfortable. True authentic Mexican food, which is delicious and prepared fresh, one of my favorite Mexican dishes is tamales and Tropico makes them wonderfully. This is a low-key, down home neighborhood eatery. Their room on the side, would be fantastic for children's parties with a Mexican theme and possibly a piñata!! Honestly, this little restaurant offers a lot of menu options and everything is so fresh. I plan on bringing a group of my family here in the near future. read more

Fast service but waiter not familiar with menu and owner was not in the restaurant for early lunch on Cinco de Mayo. I had dined there a week earlier and had a delicious lunch with the owner coming over and explaining his menu. We were offered more nacho chips but when we reviewed our bill we were charged extra for the additional dish of chips. This charge was not listed on the menu....very disappointing read more

We have tried every Mexican restaurant in town. Tropico in our opinion is #1 for sure. We do not like raw onions and every other place after careful instructions still puts loads of raw onions on everything!!! Not Tropico.. they understood the assignment and deliver banged meals! My number 1 pick for sure! read more

What a great little establishment. Even though I'm a gringo and my Spanish is horrible, they made me feel very welcome and the owner spoke perfect English! When you go into an ethnic restaurant and you see that Restaurants "own people" (like seeing plenty of Latinos in a Mexican restaurant), you know the food is going to be authentic and good - and that is what I witnessed here at lunchtime. Upon entering, the owner told me to sit wherever I liked. He immediately brought over a bowl of tortilla chips with excellent beans and melted cheese on top - gratis. He quickly set me up with a beverage and the three tacos lenguas that I requested. While everything was excellent, their Salsa Verde was truly exceptional! I even had to buy a soup container size of it to bring home for the family to enjoy or I would never hear the end of it. This restaurant is just a few minutes off the Garden State Parkway. So if you are driving by, it's definitely worth a stop in for a good, affordable meal. If you happen to be stuck in traffic on the Parkway, even more of a reason to get off and enjoy some good comida! read more

We ALWAYS order here! It's local for us and the delivery is fast and the food is always fresh. We get the chimichanga, fresh guacamole and chips, shrimp tacos, skirt steak, the red shrimp or beef soup and the chicken fingers for our kids. The red soup stains and is spicy so just be careful but it's very well made. They have a an excellent green sauce for dipping or topping your food with too. read more

Amazing authentic Mexican food! My husband and I ate here today and I am writing a review in the middle of lunch because that is how good it is. I had the torta Al pastor and it was amazing. You know it's good when you're so full but you keep eating it. My husband had the tamales and they were authentic and delicious. He also had the tripe tacos which were super tender. We had the tacos Al pastor which was a flavorful mix of pork and pineapple topped with lots of cilantro and fresh limes. The guacamole was super fresh and made to order. The place was clean, portions were big and the service was exceptional as well. Antonio was our waiter and he was super friendly! What a doll! We will back for sure ! read more

The fajitas, guacamole, steak tacos all were excellent! This was our first time dining at Restaurante Tropico. From the moment we walked in Antonio made us feel welcomed. This place definitely has the "hole in a wall" vibe. We got an assortment of tacos (chorizo, pollo, bistek, lingua, etc). All were flavorful and delicious. The horchata didn't have the typical powdery finish that you would expect (fantastic and would highly recommend). We will definitely be coming back! read more

Holy bananas!! This place is fantastic! We stopped by for the chowder for the music fest today and ordered dinner. The shrimp burrito, shrimp tacos, GUAC!, and papaya drink were so amazing We gorged ourselves. The shrimp as all cooked perfectly and for 2 dozen shrimp between the two of us that's impressive. The guac was fresh and beat out los Corales down the block by a mile. (I didn't run to the bathroom either which is also a plus) not having cross contamination is a clear plus here and Antonio holds his standards up! And couldn't be more friendly! 5 stars on hospitality alone! Anyone looking to try some amazing food should stop on in and enjoy fantastic food! I don't know what the rave about this place is. Maybe we had a bad day but we ordered tacos, burritos, quesadillas and guacamole. Everything was flavorless. I had to use tons of the green and red sauce they give you. Mexican food is known for having strong flavors, these were bland. Also a little bit of heat would be nice too. The cheese quesadilla for my daughter had just some kind of queso fresco and lettuce, she didn't eat it. Where's te melted cheese in it? Disappointed read more

Authentico! Great stuff. Anyone who wants real mex style food should go here. Leave the food chains and eat local. You want delivery? They do it! Skip Chinese and try some of their items. The food was absolutely incredible! And what was even better was the server we had was such a nice guy, had a real strong positive vibe and did the absolute most to make us feel welcomed. This is my favrite Mexican Restaurant . It is clean and the food is fabulous!! Like your Grandmother cooked it. Wish it was closer to me. But I stop by on my way back from NYC on my way home . I had the enchiladas de pollo con mole found the chicken a bit dry. My son had the chicken burrito which was very spicy. That's what you get when you say yes to jalapeños. And we also tried the quesadilla de chorizo it was good. Overall the food was blend and not spicy enough for me. I will give it another try. read more

No problem.. a staff member helped me push to tables together and I went outside to wave my party in. Staff was all smiles and Sal, the young man, helped us navigate the menu and took our order complete with some custom requests. No hassle, no nasty looks... just pleasant service and a great vibe. They even brought us an ice bucket for our BYOB sangria without being asked. The food itself was delicious and as fresh as can be... get the guacamole! I dont think it's on the menu as a stand alone item, but it was great! The portions are VERY generous and many containers were taken home! I'm disappointed that the other place screwed us that hard, but it was worth it in the end because El Ranchero came through epically and is now at the top of the list for my next Mexican food urge.

Chilaquiles with chorizo is always a standout. We went yesterday for a celebratory brunch and as usual left very happy. Specials are always good. Service is always great. Cant believe Ive never written a review but there's reasons why we've been going for so long. Great pancakes, huevos rancheros, Mexican country eggs and skillets.
