    California enchiladas (to go)
    Katie R.

I was desperately craving enchiladas and didn't want to battle commuter traffic, so I opted for Casa Lupe since it was nearby. I came here once, probably 15 years ago, so thought it was about time to give them another try. I didn't love it when I had it in the past, but they have a pretty big following so I thought it might've just been the item I got. I called ahead and placed my order to go, arrived about 10 minutes later and had to wait about two minutes for my food. The service was extremely warm and friendly from everyone I interacted with. This made me super optimistic and hopeful that I would love the food. Sadly, that was not the case. On a positive note, the portion of the enchilada meal was quite large, and they did include chips and salsa with my to go order. On a not so positive note, the food was kind of cold. I started eating it within 7-8 minutes of being handed the meal, so I was expecting it to be piping hot, but that was just not the case. Didn't like the flavor of the salsa, and the chicken in one of the enchiladas was pretty dry. Luckily the second enchilada I ate was better, that chicken was nice and tender, but very inconsistent between the two. With so much great Mexican food in the area, I don't think I will be coming back here, and if I do, it'll probably be in another 15+ years.

    Steak fajitas

Hey there Party People Been looking for a good old fashion traditional Mexican place and I have finally found it. It's a great local joint that has a nice touch of traditional decor. I am a bit of a Spanish rice snob but I have to say this place gets a 9 out of 10 from me and that's high praise. I had the steak fajitas and the meat was so tender you could cut it with a fork. The marinade was very slightly sweet with a tang of vinegar that was really great. My Hubby did a combo plate consisting of a Chicken Taco, chicken Tostada and a carnitas Burrito. He really loved the carnitas the verde sauce was on point. His only negative was that the Chicken was slightly under seasoned. The portions were large and the chips and Salsa was FREE. I know...I was shocked too. I'll be coming to this place often Be kind to one another

    Chicken enchiladas suizas

Came on a tuesday night for dinner, the place doesn't have a lot of parking and the spots were all taken. The neighborhood nearby is resident parking only, so you need to find a spot on the street. The place was packed, and I feel like they were really understaffed, service was very slow, but they were all friendly and doing their best. We got chips and (very spicy) salsa as soon as we sat down. I had the chicken enchiladas suizas which was pretty bland. The plate itself was super hot, I touched it to adjust it and I nearly burnt myself. You should not serve a plate this hot to a customer, regardless of saying 'careful it is hot', I've never had anything like this ever. Doubt I'll be back.

Chicken mole and the service are fantastic. Nice cold beer, too. Great spot. Great for families.

#20 tacos with Mexican steak and sub refried beans

Stopped by on a rainy Tuesday night and the food was delicious! It wasn't too crowded and there were couples, families, and folks of all ages present. The decor above the tables, bar seating, and booths provides a cozy, authentic, and clean atmosphere. The service is attentive and kind, the salsas are delicious (one spicy, one smokey), and the portions are hefty. It's a family run establishment and folks make you feel like you're a regular even when you're not! I had #20: tacos with Mexican steak and swapped the pinto beans for refried beans. The guac portion was god-tier and the texture of the tortillas was ideal. The food was piping hot and the rice was some of the best Mexican rice I've had in the area. While they have a full bar and plenty of options for lunch and dinner -- as other reviewers have shared, the prices are quite steep -- buy I'd still say it's 4+ stars.

I would suggest that the serve mention that when taking orders so we know. Just because it's at the very bottom of the menu I didn't notice it until I asked for a dessert menu. The food was so good! We had Mexican jambalaya, Carne asada plate, tacos Dorado, enchiladas with both sauces, parillada, enfrioladas (bean enchiladas) tacos de pescado, Don julio flight, multiple drinks and churros. The churros were really good although we wish there was a non filled ones too and to have the optionof if we wanted it dressed up because churros are already super sweet with the cinnamonand sugar dusted but caramel and whip cream was added along with a strawberry filling. We also ordered a tres leches cake but we didn't like the tres leches cake, it was too sweet, so sweet that we couldn't taste the filling which we assume was pineapple lol the color was yellow with pieces of fruit but we couldn't taste it. Overall the service was great and quick. I would definitely come back here.

Plenty of parking available since the restaurant is in a strip mall. It wasn't too busy when we got there, but then it started picking up. There was only one server working and she was really hustling to meet everyone's needs. Plus, she was friendly. I had the carne asada burrito, it was good but nothing over the top that made it stand out. My friend had enchiladas with mole. We were most excited about dessert and decided to share the churros and Tres leches. It was a nice touch that the churros and Tres leches did not come plain, a little pizzazz since they were both served with berries, whipped cream, and a cajeta style sauce. Both of the desserts were so good and a perfect touch of sweetness.

Fast food is overpriced and unhealthy. So what are your options? Look no further, because Los Pericos (The Parakeets) has one of the best family meal deals in the Bay Area! It's extremely affordable and delicious. The family meals include tacos with your choice of meat, beans (refried or whole), Mexican rice, salsa, and your choice of corn or flour tortillas. It was relatively empty, with only one other party seated at the time. Service was friendly and quick, and we got our food pretty quickly after ordering. It's got a quaint hole in the wall kind of vibe, but was still clean - though not very air conditioned. We missed it, but there was a salsa bar in the corner near the entrance. We were served complimentary salsa and chips - nice refreshing, tomatoey and lightly spicy salsa. We also got guacamole, which you could tell was freshly made, chunky and refreshing. Glad we got this, because it helped cut through how heavy the molcajete de mariscos we got was. We were NOT expecting how large the mocajete is - this can probably be split across 3 if not 4 people. It comes out boiling hot, and with 3 tortillas, and a side of beans and rice. When we ordered, they asked us if we would want more tortillas since it comes with only 3 - we didn't even finish the 3 it came with. The sauce was tasty, tomatoey and spicy, and it was chock full of mussels, squid, sooo many shrimp, a whole filet of fried fish, and other goodies - unfortunately most of the seafood was pretty dry/overcooked. It came out to about $60 for the two of us. Overall, the mocajete was fun to try, but I think next time I'd try some tacos or a burrito if I were to come back.
