Love the burritos here. I got the carnitas super burrito and the meat to other ingredient ratio was excellent. Everything was cooked and well-seasoned. I've also had the wet burrito version of this and it was delicious, but I wanted something more portable for the park. I waited a while to write a review here because I wanted to give them a chance. People are constantly raving about how good this spot is, so after a mediocre first visit with the driest carnitas possible, I figured it was an off day. Second visit was a lot better, third good but one the most poorly wrapped burritos I've had - it fell apart before I even got the foil all the way off, and the 4th and 5th just okay. It really is hit or miss here, though it's mostly been misses for me. I've gotten burritos and tacos here, the burritos are pretty big and one is always plenty of food, sometimes more than enough. They have a good salsa bar with quite a few options, and you can get free chips if you are dining in. Last time I was here, I got a bunch of tacos to try a good variety of different meats and figure out why everyone likes this place so much. After trying the carnitas, pastor, asad, chicken, lengua, cabeza, and chile verde, the lengua and chile verde stuck out the most to me, with the cabeza and chile verde doing so for my boyfriend. That being said, I've still had better of each at other taquerias. This spot is in a convenient location for me, so I won't swear them off for good, but I have some other spots I'll consider going to first to get my Mexican food fix. read more

Totally thrilled with this hole in the wall after a 6-7 mi walk @ Wilder's ranch. Despite the crowd, the line moved fast, tables/seats opened up, and it was efficient minus the chip & salsa bar. In our culture, we take care of our elders, so I ordered nachos for my mother and a wet green chile verde burrito for myself, along with a few other items. When we got home, I realized the nachos were missing and my burrito was made with red sauce instead of green. I called right away--one person struggled to understand me, so another came on the line and told me to come back, saying they'd have it ready. When I returned, no one seemed aware of the issue. The young woman at the counter insisted there was no record of my order. I even found my own receipt among the used plates in the bussing area to show proof. Still, I was told I hadn't ordered nachos. At that point, I simply asked to reorder and pay again, but the conversation turned curt and dismissive. With over 40 years as a chef and culinary instructor, I understand how challenging food service can be--especially with food costs and staffing right now. But I also know the importance of guest care and food safety. Asking customers to bring back food from home disagrees with best practices and can create health risks. I want to be clear--I never leave negative reviews. Having spent a lifetime in this industry, I know how easily a single review can hurt a business that people work hard to build. My intention here is not to harm Perico's reputation, but to help bring this to your attention so the team can address it constructively. Came here for a quick lunch break. The inside of the restaurant was clean and has a lot of seating. There's a chip and salsa station on the side for dine-in customers. I needed something easy to eat on to go so i got an Al pastor super burrito. The burrito was really good, 5/5 in my opinion. The one downside is the price. My total came out to be $17 something and if you're paying with card, there's no option to not tip. From what I've had, the food appears to be good but really pricey for what it is. read more

The food is always enjoyable. The service however needs to be taught better customer service and restaurant etiquette. My partner and I went to order food to eat at the restaurant at around 840pm, mind you the restaurant closed at 9pm. While we were ordering the cashiers asks if we want to eat there, we said yes , and she reply's what time is it? Oh you still have time to eat here. We get our food and sit down to eat , the same worker ( older lady with glasses) immediately starts sweeping a dirty rug by our table while we were eating. I came here to eat, but my experience was terrible from the start. When I tried to order, the man taking my order laughed at my Spanish and criticized what I chose. When I received my food, it was handed to me with a disgusted look. My boyfriend and I were simply sitting, talking, and eating chips and salsa--nothing that should have caused that kind of treatment. While eating, I found an unknown ingredient in my food that looked uncooked or intentionally mixed into the rice to hide it. I didn't even bother bringing my concerns to the manager because, based on the staff's attitude, I doubted I'd be treated any better. One of my favorite places for tacos! The biggest perk is there's the AYCE salsa bar if you're doing dine in! They do a pretty good job of checking up on the bar to make sure that it's stocked well too! Love the tacos here and we always make a point to stop by whenever we are in or pass by Santa Cruz. We stopped by around noon on a Saturday this time around and managed to beat the lunch crowd. Note there's less than 5 spots in the lot so it's best to park on a side street. We got a variety of tacos to share including carnitas, carne asada, al pastor, lengua, and the fish and shrimp tacos. Everything was delicious - we enjoyed the al pastor which had a nice kick and the fish and shrimp tacos the best. The fish and shrimp tacos are both cooked nicely and tender. They're a great lighter choice if you're looking for something healthier. We got a couple of the standard soft tacos as well as the pericos tacos which come with cheese and avocado. I actually preferred the simple taco with the additional toppings as the cheese/avocado combo was pretty heavy. They have a great selection of toppings from a spicy red and mild green salsa to pico de gallo and complimentary tortilla chips to munch on while you wait for your taco. After spotting this place from a post to Nextdoor.com, my husband and I came back to eat here--after many years. We literally gorged ourselves on the home made chips and home made pico de gallo: delicious and free when you eat 'in'. The salsa/chip bar is AWESOME: hot and spicy stuff or choices of mild. The green sauce is also mild and quite excellent! I ordered the soup: Caldo de res (beef soup), which came with tortillas and a side of rice, cilantro and onion. The broth was rich and real (no canned stuff here) with super large chunks of meat that were tender, with potato & carrots. The bowl was very good size and not 'watery' tasting--nor was it too spicy for this white lady! My only issue: a large hair in the soup from possibly the waitress or kitchen help! YUCK. Please, could you wear hair nets for this reason? My husband at first did not want the breaded Tilipia fish plate, but ended up with it and was extremely pleased. It was a large piece, lightly breaded and quite tasty and 'light' (not oily, greasy) with beans, guac and sour cream. We were very happy with our meals and will come back again. I was a bit excited because I thought it would be delicious as it was the day after Christmas, but the flavor was quite mediocre and the edges were a bit hard, probably not fully covered by the corn husks. A friend got the chorizo breakfast burrito, which he also felt was mediocre. My other friend got four tacos: two carne asada, two cabeza. They were very generous with the meat. The complimentary chips were nice, and all the three sauces were not particularly spicy. This was good for me who is very spice sensitive. The chips themselves were thick with a good texture and flavor. Overall, 3.5 stars for our food choices but service was quick and there are good complentatary chips. This is the best taqueria around, and I go to a lot of them. They recently added quesabiria to the menu; I like them best with corn tortillas and love the soup. Pro tip: use a paper liner and put big scoops of salsa in the basket instead of using the little salsa containers. One more tip is that the guac is runny, so asked for sliced avocado instead. The menu display is updated and shows more pictures of the food, which is appreciated. The service is friendly and they bring your tacos out within a few minutes. Meat: The chile verde pork is oustanding with a kick, the fish is fantastic, both chickens are solid, and the carnitas are bit greasy and rock. The pastor is strong also. I go here a few times a week for lunch and sometimes take out the meat for dinner since it is cheaper and better than making my own. The atmosphere is quiet here as they don't blare the volume on the TV or play loud music and that makes it easy to relax or talk. One knock is the accuracy of the timing estimates for orders by phone. So, I usually arrive and order to go or eat in since it tastes better that way anyway. read more
