Two tacos (al pastor, carnitas) with rice and beans.
Dat N.

We came around dinnertime. You'll head over to the counter and order there, and someone will bring your order to you. We ordered a fish taco, shrimp taco, and a carnitas-and-al pastor double plate (with rice and beans). There's a self-serve salsa bar (with chips, if you're dining in). The carnitas and al pastor were mediocre. Both were a little tough and dry, and weren't too flavorful. The rice and beans were also standard - nothing special. However, the fish taco and the shrimp taco were incredibly juicy and packed with flavor. I found myself wishing I had ordered those instead. The chips here are delicious! They're thicker than your average tortilla chip, so they have a satisfying crunch to them. The salsas available are a great compliment to the chips.

I waited a while to write a review here because I wanted to give them a chance. People are constantly raving about how good this spot is, so after a mediocre first visit with the driest carnitas possible, I figured it was an off day. Second visit was a lot better, third good but one the most poorly wrapped burritos I've had - it fell apart before I even got the foil all the way off, and the 4th and 5th just okay. It really is hit or miss here, though it's mostly been misses for me. I've gotten burritos and tacos here, the burritos are pretty big and one is always plenty of food, sometimes more than enough. They have a good salsa bar with quite a few options, and you can get free chips if you are dining in. Last time I was here, I got a bunch of tacos to try a good variety of different meats and figure out why everyone likes this place so much. After trying the carnitas, pastor, asad, chicken, lengua, cabeza, and chile verde, the lengua and chile verde stuck out the most to me, with the cabeza and chile verde doing so for my boyfriend. That being said, I've still had better of each at other taquerias. This spot is in a convenient location for me, so I won't swear them off for good, but I have some other spots I'll consider going to first to get my Mexican food fix.

Taqueria Los Pericos is a top spot for Mexican food in the bay! With a salsa bar and some well sized portions, it definitely hits the spot when I'm craving something hearty. I'd really recommend the burritos as they are big, full of flavor, and pair super nicely with the orange sauce from the salsa bar. The staff is super sweet and they always have the best music playing.

We had lunch here and it was good. The customer service was great. The lady in the front was very helpful. Clean restaurant. Tacos and burritos were really good.

Pay attention to the WEIGHT. We only got HALF A POUND instead of a pound of meat for both the shrimp and pastor.
Eugene N.

Will make this short and sweet. Look at the receipt. We were supposed to get 1lb each of shrimp and pastor. Instead we got HALF A LB (9 oz). Horrible bruh.

Wet burrito

Came here randomly because Google maps couldn't find another spot nearby according to the yelp address, and it did not disappoint! I really like the variety in the menu here. I got a wet burrito, as a super (which is nice that they let you choose!). It was MASSIVE and love how cheesy it is. Definitely filling. Unfortunately they fill the burrito unevenly so I split it, and one side had barely any meat while the other side was packed. So think twice before saving leftovers or sharing. I also liked they have small options as we also got a small quesadilla, although very no frills and small as expected based on the option I ordered.

Al pastor Super Burrito
Didi N.

Came here for a quick lunch break. The inside of the restaurant was clean and has a lot of seating. There's a chip and salsa station on the side for dine-in customers. I needed something easy to eat on to go so i got an Al pastor super burrito. The burrito was really good, 5/5 in my opinion. The one downside is the price. My total came out to be $17 something and if you're paying with card, there's no option to not tip. From what I've had, the food appears to be good but really pricey for what it is.

I could not finish the Carne Asada Breakfast Burrito, even though I tried and was very hungry! So filling. Yum!
Barbara B.

I ordered the steak breakfast burrito and requested salsa with my order. The food arrived quickly and was hot when it was delivered. My burrito came with a side of corn chips, as well as Salsa Rojas & Pico de Gallo. I loved it! They did NOT skimp on the carne asada, and the flavors were spot on. That Salsa Rojas was delicious. First time trying out, will definitely eat here again.

Chilaquiles

I came here to eat, but my experience was terrible from the start. When I tried to order, the man taking my order laughed at my Spanish and criticized what I chose. When I received my food, it was handed to me with a disgusted look. My boyfriend and I were simply sitting, talking, and eating chips and salsa--nothing that should have caused that kind of treatment. While eating, I found an unknown ingredient in my food that looked uncooked or intentionally mixed into the rice to hide it. I didn't even bother bringing my concerns to the manager because, based on the staff's attitude, I doubted I'd be treated any better. To make things worse, I ended up getting food poisoning afterward. This place needs serious improvement in both customer service and food quality.

Plenty of parking available since the restaurant is in a strip mall. It wasn't too busy when we got there, but then it started picking up. There was only one server working and she was really hustling to meet everyone's needs. Plus, she was friendly. I had the carne asada burrito, it was good but nothing over the top that made it stand out. My friend had enchiladas with mole. We were most excited about dessert and decided to share the churros and Tres leches. It was a nice touch that the churros and Tres leches did not come plain, a little pizzazz since they were both served with berries, whipped cream, and a cajeta style sauce. Both of the desserts were so good and a perfect touch of sweetness.

The service is not the best and you have to try hard to catch the servers attention. The food was better this time, but not as good as many other Mexican restaurants. It is not what I consider authentic Mexican food.

I came to La Jaiba Taqueria y Mariscos with a friend on a whim on a Sunday around 12pm for lunch…read moresince we were in the area. It was relatively empty, with only one other party seated at the time. Service was friendly and quick, and we got our food pretty quickly after ordering. It's got a quaint hole in the wall kind of vibe, but was still clean - though not very air conditioned. We missed it, but there was a salsa bar in the corner near the entrance. We were served complimentary salsa and chips - nice refreshing, tomatoey and lightly spicy salsa. We also got guacamole, which you could tell was freshly made, chunky and refreshing. Glad we got this, because it helped cut through how heavy the molcajete de mariscos we got was. We were NOT expecting how large the mocajete is - this can probably be split across 3 if not 4 people. It comes out boiling hot, and with 3 tortillas, and a side of beans and rice. When we ordered, they asked us if we would want more tortillas since it comes with only 3 - we didn't even finish the 3 it came with. The sauce was tasty, tomatoey and spicy, and it was chock full of mussels, squid, sooo many shrimp, a whole filet of fried fish, and other goodies - unfortunately most of the seafood was pretty dry/overcooked. It came out to about $60 for the two of us. Overall, the mocajete was fun to try, but I think next time I'd try some tacos or a burrito if I were to come back.

I tried the popular baleada, which is a home-made flour tortilla filled with a layer of mashed red beans, queso fresco, eggs and with or without meat (I got it with carne asada). The flour tortilla was just as other described - soft, buttery smooth, almost melt in your mouth goodness. The carne asada was dry and hard so I could've gone without. I bet a braised beef like barbacoa would've been perfect for this item. It also came with salsa and I selected mild which gave it a nice bright flavor. I also ordered a chicken tamale (they also offer pork) and I was surprised to find a whole chicken wing (no skin) stuffed into the tamale! I broke into it using a fork and hit something hard which turned out to be the bones. But honestly, this was one of the best tamales I've tried in a long time. Flavorful, moist, and a nice sized portion. It came wrapped in what I think was banana leaf. The service was fast on a Wednesday night and there were a handful of friendly patrons seated nearby. You could tell that they were regulars. The space was intimate with around 10-15 tables seating about 4 people each. Maya's Cafe menu has a wide assortment of dishes to choose from: serving breakfast dishes like chilaquiles, lunch items such as burritos, or soups and full on dinner plates with rice, beans, and choice of protein. There's even more selection and the whole menu is in Spanish so I'll be sure to use Google Translate next time!
