I really like this place. It was mid afternoon and I came down to the hospital for an appointment. They always say dont eat anything in case we have to do some test or another. So i was fairly hungry but didnt want to do Burger King or MCd. The atmosphere here is great. There are murals on the wall that totally make you feel like you are in Mexico. Not sure if it is where the place is situated or what but I dont feel like I am in fort madison at all. I have worked in FTM for a couple decades so a little change of pace is nice. Some mexican music playing but not too loud. Again just really nice. Overall the tables were clean and bathrooms nice and clean to. Well done. I kind of cheaped out and got the taco with beans and rice. Before i ordered i got chips and salsa which i think is part of any meal, and if that is canned salsa I want to know where I can get some, otherwise I think this is made on site. Either way it was great. I thought maybe I should have gotten a bigger meal but the taco with the beans and rice plus chips was perfectly filling. Next time i might go for something bigger. Service start to finish was phenomenal. Quick to get a seat, get food, and get the check. There was a family of people at a decent size table and what I think are probably regulars who 'know' in several booths. And at 330pm? Nobody else is putting asses in seats at that time of day. I am glad that I 'know' now. I will be going back whenever I am in the area. I noticed the manager who was very nice was handling sizeable orders over the phone while taking care of everyone. Friendly order take out here and the food is always great. When we dine in I enjoy their frozen drinks like daiquiri and margaritas.

Bro the place charged me 2$ for hot sauce? Wasn't even good, I've worked in nice restaurants where we made the sauces in the back of house and never charged for it. Love their steak chimichanga and quesadillas. Service is hit or miss. We spent 20 min waiting for someone to take our order. Finally a very nice server asked if we had been helped. She said she would ask the hostess assigned to our area. Evidently that hostess wasn't interested in helping so the nice server came back to take our order. Wow! Kudos to her for showing what it takes to be a great food service employee. Food wise this place is probably the closest you'll find for authentic Mexican food in the area. It's consistent. We come here whenever we're passing thru the area traveling because it's consistent and open later than other places. read more

It is so gross in there. The staff is lazy and the food is undercooked! Would give ZERO stars if I could. The family and I came back to visit my mother-in-law and everyone told us to eat there. My son got FOOD POISONING. Never again. Then there's the manager who gave us awful service. I had the flautas and they were undercooked to the max! Don't go there unless you want to feel sick to your stomach. The staff told us our food would not take long. I had a delicious meal here. The service was prompt. Not over friendly, but always near by. I didn't find them rude by any means. The salsa with the chips was good. It had a nice hint of heat without being overbearing and a nice tomato flavor. I ordered the chili verde. Nice chunks of pork tips that were tender and had a food sear to them. Seriously. A drink off their own menu. My sister ordered a regular margarita which tasted mostly like a mix with no tequila. We almost ordered shots of tequila just to put in our drinks. Margaritas are the best thing on the menu. Salsa is OK, but nothing special. You'll need it, though, to spice up most of what you order as a main course. Rice is OK, but skip the beans - way too runny. Old El Paso out of a can is a better bet. read more

The food isn't bad, and different from the other Mexican restaurants in town. Prices are reasonable and the serving size is just about right for me, I never leave hungry. The salsa could have just a hint more heat, but guessing they keep that down for the majority of people that don't want real spicey. Offering two heat levels of Salsa might be a good idea. Lunchtime specials are a bargain and the service is quick. Staff isn't overly friendly but they are polite and efficient. English may be limited with several, but then again so is my Spanish. All in all I think you get a fair deal money wise and decent food. Try the Speedy Gonzales at lunch time quick and filling for a very reasonable price. read more

this use to be my favorite place to go eat when celebrating anything. I was so happy to see that is where was going for Valentine's day. I ordered the chimichanga fatia as it is my favorite my husband asks for the 8oz steak medium rare.when the food arrived mine was as always great my husbands was a joke very flat and think smaller than a breakfast steak and overdone very tough to cut and eat .when ask by our server and two other people how the food was we showed them the steak and all our server could say was they are used to cooking Mexican food this is not a steak house. I replied then do not advertise steak on the menu. we got our check land as we were explaining to the checkout lady about the steak not being cooked properly or the right size our server came up and made the same statement. she told him not to argue with us because he began saying other things Needless to say we will not go there again we will tell everyone what happened. and my advise to you IS DO not order a steak at la casa salsa in FT. Usually really good tasting food but one waitress is very rude. She charged me double on white cheese and argued with me about it being very condescending . The manager that barely speaks english is very nice and works very hard. That same waitress talked bad about him to customers being his back. read more

Amazing chips and salsa. Relatively quick service. I came with four people and none of us finished our own dish, but we managed to eat three baskets of chips and salsa. We couldn't seem to get enough of it. I ordered a shredded beef chimichanga and I wasn't pleased with it. There was a white sauce poured over the top of it that was nothing more than warm evaporated milk. The beef was dry and didn't have any unique taste. I found myself wanting to just get my money's worth with the chips and salsa which was rather difficult for the price of $9.95. The atmosphere was sub par with the interesting paintings on the wall. On our way out they only allowed us 1 mint per person. I only wanted 1, but the fact that they had a limit put me off. The name of their restaurant stands for what it's worth. I would recommend getting a cheap dish or starter and enjoying the chips and salsa. read more
