Great Mexican buffet, salsa is best in the state.

Salsa is really good and free flowing through dinner. I ordered off the menu and asked for a steak burrito...I was served a soft shell taco w steak fajita inside. My server was confused when I said steak burrito? Place has weird acoustics. I could hear conversations loud and clear from a couple unlucky and unknowing patrons. We eat their lunch buffet every couple of weeks. The variety of offerings is wonderful and everything is prepared well. Love having the big bowl of shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes, plus the grated cheese, onions and hot peppers. Soup is always good and after all the great food, you get some nice desserts. Their coke is simply the best. Almost everyplace you go, you get very watered down soft drinks. What a nice surprise at first sip. They will also bring you sour cream, if you like and even though you serve yourself the food, the servers check on you several times to see if you need anything else. No wonder they have been doing well for so many years. They are doing it right. read more

First timers and we loved it! The chips and salsa were great, just enough heat to get us ready for our meals! I ordered the chicken enchiladas plate and it was perfect! I haven't bee to this restaurant in years. I remember it having good food but kind of a dive. They have remodeled it was very nice and clean. Good buffet although it says at the front door "buffet includes drink and dessert" not true. It includes tea and they should specify. We ordered a tea and coke and was charged $1.95 for the coke. Someone should have told us and when we mentioned it to the cashier she didn't offer to take it of or apologize. I would recommend but ask questions. read more

OK I wouldn't expect to find good Mexican Food in Abilene anyway but this one took the cake. I mean is there anyone in that kitchen remotely with knowledge of what Mexican food is? First off, the salsa tasted like tobasco sauce with ketchup. They do serve some super bland fake queso with it but the only thing good were the chips...unsalted and thin and crispy. The place was full of people but perhaps that's all they know in the area. The service was really good. Our waitress was super fast with our party of 6, it was impressive. I had the one of two vegetarian dishes on the menu...spinach enchiladas. I've so had better and this is pretty hard to screw up. It's like someone read out of Betty Crocker recipe of how to make enchiladas and that's what they came up with for a first try from the 50's in middle America. They do have a 'vegetarian plate' which consists of sides of beans, rice and lettuce. Not really something to order as a meal. The nachos looked good with tons of toppings and an abundance of lettuce. They also have a child's menu of choices. I think the last time I had crappy Mexican food was in Paris....far far away from Mexico and a big fail to be expected but come on now...we are in Texas. Bring your own salsa for added taste. Diners be warned and lower your expectations. read more

Spent night in Abeline from Houston. This place has a warm clean environment and good food. I didn't like the salsa but the waitress brought me a green sauce that was very good. You have to ask for it. read more

Authentic Mexican food. Tastes great, fair prices. Lunch buffet is good, but prefer to go for dinner. I'm a huge chips and salsa fanatic and I love theirs. Margaritas are good as well, have gotten a pitcher several times and was never disappointed. read more

Great Food and Great Margaritas. I am not a fan of their re-fried beans (to bland for my tastes) service is a little bit slow but the food is always hot and tasty when it gets there. Its the place to go when you just want to get out and relax and have someone bring you Mexican food and margaritas until you are so full that you can no longer move. Years ago, Casa Herrera was great. Now, not so much. They advertise free dessert with the buffet. There's a reason it's free. It's inedible. Two people ordered entrees instead of the buffet. Only $6, but it came out 15 minutes later obviously straight from the holding oven... the sauce had formed a crust over the entire plate. What they call sopapillas turns out to be turnover pie crust. $4 apiece The Sunday buffet is no bargain.... $10.60 and $2 apiece for tea. Guess I've been spoiled by real Tex Mex restaurants in Austin. Casa Herrera is done. read more

Good food and great service. If you drink margaritas skip the house option and get the top shelf. Only a $1 more but much better.

I've only ever had the lunch buffet but the food is always delicious. The service is occasionally lacking and I always have to ask for a straw. They never leave one unless I ask. But I keep going back because the food is so good. read more

Awful. The food is just awful. I don't typically have high expectations of Mexican restaurants, but this was surprisingly bad.

Have eaten here on numerous occassions!!! Absolutely love it. Staff is always very friendly, food served in a timely manner, buffet is great, and the food, in my opinion, is the BEST!!! Really terrible Mexican food. I am from San Antonio and was very disappointed. The food was bland. The salsa is a tomato paste with no spice. The meat was tasteless. The margarita was like the cheapest sour mix with a tiny bit of alcohol. Worst I have ever had. Seriously unimpressed. I feel like the good reviews are written by those friendly with the owners or are totally clueless about good Mexican food. read more

They serve amazing food, and will make it like you want it. Juarez Margarita's by the pitcher are the best!

I really like Casa Herrera. The buffet is good and convenient if you are needing to get back to work. Otherwise, order from the menu. All the dishes are great, but my favorite is the Carne guisada plate and chile rellenos. The Juarez Margarita and Michelada are great! I love it all! Those people that think they are experts because they are from Austin or San Antonio must be idiots. read more

OK so I have gone here lots of times and was fine with this place. In February we booked a retirement party here, told them it could be up to 50 people. They said no problem. We start getting there and first thing we are told is we cant order from menu can only eat off the buffet, because it made it to busy for the cooks in the back....Then they put ALL of us in the room next to the buffet, we where so cramped that people on the wall sides could not get out and had to ask people to get more for them.. The ONE waitress we had was rude as hell never got the drink orders right so we all gave up and just took what she gave us... The owner of the place came and told the person retiring that if anyone else showed up that they would not get a table to sit at they would have to STAND....Then to top it all of the owner came and told us we had to leave our time was up, we where never told we had a time limit....Don't know if I will go back..put a sour taste in my mouth from this place... read more
