The owner, Preston, and his wife made us feel right at home. Within 10 minutes of check in we were offered fresh fruit and homemade brownies. Our room (Green Room) was decent sized, had AC, an electric fireplace, and a super comfortable bed. Breakfast was served right at the scheduled time and was excellent. Day one was waffles, bacon, and fruit. Our second and last day led us to a nice quiche with sausage and homemade crumb cake...drool. Preston took the time to sit and converse with us while we are and made a real effort to get to know us. We loved hearing some of his stories about the house and about the area. I highly recommend the Lewis house as an alternative to pricier chain hotels in downtown Saratoga and as another option to camping or staying at a motel. You will not be disappointed.

In the morning we served the best breakfast: day 1: homemade Danish with blueberries, fresh fruit, bacon, muffins, and eggs! Day 2: Apple cinnamon waffles, apple slices, and sausage. Mr Lewis and his wife were so friendly and made us feel right at home. He cut me fresh pussy willows from the garden to take home. I couldn't have asked for better hospitality. The Lewis House is walking distance to the village of Ballston Spa and about 10 drive to downtown Saratoga Springs and the racetrack. We will def be back for racing season!

We did not really see the grounds that night when we drove in. We had to 'self check-in' and found our room. We were pleasantly surprised at how great the room was. We had a wood burning stove, flat screen TV, huge bed with comfy bed linens, and a huge private bathroom. The next morning we woke up to the smells of breakfast. We made it out to the dining room and there was a delicious spread along with the owners serving us and making plenty if conversation. We really enjoyed it. After breakfast we took a walk around the property, WOW. It was amazing. The farm is so pretty and truly a great spot for leaf peeping. I can't wait to go back next year!!

Dinner was amazing. Our server was polite, but we missed the usual "welcome my name is, our menu is…read moreunique" introductions. We'd never eaten there before and weren't prepared for the brief menu and understanding of the sides that weren't listed. The restaurant is very farm to table so the specials disappeared from the board all night as food items ran out. SOOO GOOD the food though. So good! Truly generous portions that resulted in 2 more meals for us during our trip. Nice night out in Caroga, but don't be in a hurry. Their single chef was perfection, but not quick.

I have…read morebeen following this restaurant on social media for quite a while and finally made it there for my anniversary. The restaurant is about 45 minutes to an hour away from Schenectady, it is family owned and operated, it's really cute inside. When we arrived, the bartender (John) let us know there was only one order of bacon wrapped scallops left, we quickly asked if we could reserve that order, man am I glad we did, they were HUGE, the bacon was so tender you could cut it with a fork and the scallops were sweet and delicious. We wanted to have a few drinks before our meal, so we we ordered Tito's and Lemonade and Espresso Martini's. Well John, pulled out 2 lemons and started squeezing them into the glasses and made fresh squeezed lemonade for the drinks!!!!! Then the espresso martini was also made to order and absolutely perfectly made, not too sweet. The special of the day was a Surf and Turf Extravaganza your choice of steak with jumbo shrimp, seared scallops, a lobster tail and snow crab clusters, which came with fresh made bread and Cesar salad. The bread was covered in melted cheese and was crispy on the outside and nice and airy on the inside. The salad was well dressed not soggy and the dressing and croutons were definitely house made. We tried the chicken vegetable soup, also homemade and delicious. The steaks are all cut in house and cooked to order. There was so much food with the entree's!! SO MUCH, probably enough for another 1-2 meals. The seafood was fresh and well prepared. The steak was perfectly seasoned the correct temperature and so tender. My husband ordered the 16oz ribeye with seared scallops, he was very impressed. We ordered some wings to go just to be sure we had a snack if we needed it later . The wings were huge and the homemade blue cheese dressing was so good, I'm glad we got extra. A few things to note, there was not a price for the surf and turf special (it was about $135), they were short staffed so we were there for about 3 hours (not including the hour at the bar before our meal). The waitstaff did checked on us to make sure we had drinks and apologized about the time in between courses, we were enjoying our conversation and drinks so it wasn't a big deal. Another thing to note, parties of 4 or more gratuity is included. Ee were there with friends so we asked them to split the check and they didn't add the gratuity to the individual checks. This is definitely a special occasion place if you're going there for the Surf and Turf special, they do have other offerings at lower price points and you can opt for a build you own surf and turf with less variety. I would have preferred some more lighting in the dining room, but they do have lights on each table to help brighten it up a little.

I recently stayed a few nights at The Morgan State House Inn and had a mostly pleasant stay…read more I thought I was staying in their main house, but they actually had my room a couple doors down in some studios that are apparently also part of the inn. Not a big deal, but I don't know that this is something you'll really know until check-in. The building a few doors down where I stayed also appeared to be historic though a bit less grand on the main level than the main house. The lobby of the building was festively decorated for the holiday. With the bright windows, a sofa, Christmas music playing, and a tree twinkling, one afternoon I couldn't resist getting a little work done in the lobby. My room was cozy with a small kitchenette, bed, arm chairs, and desk. The arm chairs are cute but not very comfortable. The desk was perfectly positioned overlooking the windows, which made for a great spot to work. The bed was pretty uncomfortable and probably needs to be replaced (it was sinking on both sides with a high spot in the middle). For my solo traveling girlies: +The inn is not staffed all night +Doors have old fashioned keys, deadbolts, and chains +The surrounding neighborhood seems nice and safe enough +Parking is slightly off site and requires walking around the block or through the back of the property. If you don't need to bring a car, I'd opt for uber +I think there may be some permanent residents in the additional property (a couple doors down from the main house) All and all, it's a beautiful, historic property, which is one of my favorite sorts to stay in. I wouldn't likely stay there again solo, but would absolutely stay with my partner!

The main one being that I was unable to enjoy the tub as much as I would have liked. The first night the jets didn't work, and someone was nice enough to come by the next day and fix it. Later that night I was looking forward to finally using the tub as intended (and even cancelled a spa day for it) but the other guests had already used all of the hot water by then. I left without getting much of any enjoyment from the tub, which is the main reason I booked the room in the first place. The other issue was the parking situation, which, to be fair, I should have anticipated before booking, considering its location. The parking spot doesn't come with the room, so you must pay extra to access it, and finding it in the dark after dinner is not easy when you have to follow a paper map and there is a line of cars behind you. Walking back to the inn alone in the dark was also pretty unsettling. Overall, this experience was the opposite of relaxing. I will say that the property is very pretty, though, and seemed to be clean.
