My daughter works at University Hospital in Newark and this is her favorite restaurant in the Iron Bound. They have valet parking, which is a huge plus, as parking is not easy in the area. With COVID, they have created a large covered out door dining area. The place feels really European and Soccer was playing on all of the TV's. The food is mainly Tapas style. Casa d'Paco was recommended by friends who are really into Tapas and they said we don't need to worry about ordering the wrong dishes since everything is delicious. It's super popular and the street parking is limited, so they provide valet parking service for a $5 charge. However, they did double park on the street and it made us really difficult to move our car. There is a great variety of options on their menu and we had a hard time making our decisions. The staff recommend to have 2-3 tapas per person so we ordered 6 tapas, 1 signature Paella Casa d'Paco & 2 desserts to share with a group of four. The food was overall amazingly delicious and authentic as what we had in Spain. Soaking wet spring evening in Newark after shopping at the Mills at Jersey Gardens. Stopped in at this local Newark Spanish specialist for Saturday dinner and was very pleased that we did. Our server Steven was born in Spain, then lived in the USA, Italy and Ecuador. Now, at the young age of 18, he already is a seasoned traveler. Steven recommended the house rioja which paired well with our courses. We enjoyed 3 tapas, the crab cakes, the octopus and the shrimp in garlic sauce (details in the photo captions). For our entree, we had the seafood paella which was well prepared with fresh clams, mussels, chorizo, small squid, shrimp, a large prawn and half a lobster. The rice was cooked perfectly, still firm, not soggy. For dessert we enjoyed the creamy cheesecake and tiramisu-like butterscotch pastry. The cortados were also rich and creamy. Definitely worth stopping here for a meal if you're in the neighborhood. Felt like being in Spain without the long flight! read more

I stopped by here and ordered the Langosta (broiled lobster with crabmeat stuffing) for take-out. It was on the smaller side, but delicious nonetheless. I even liked the grilled corn, carrots, and chips that came with it. I saw many different tapas that I wanted to try, but didn't the get chance to. I think it's best if you come with a large group, so everyone can try a variety of dishes. Note: The restaurant is located in a residential area with limited parking, and it's especially difficult on street cleaning days. So come with an empty stomach and a full parking plan. read more

I stopped in here on the way to the airport during a delay due to the earthquake. I had the bombas, they were the star of the show !!! But they were not hot, luke warm and cold. The pulpio was ok, somone called it the best thing on menu. I hope that is not the case !! The empanadas were too hot lol they took forever to cool down. read more

This restaurant has been on my list for a while and was excited to try it. I was able to book last minute reservations online for 7pm. When we arrived I was lucky to find parking nearby on the street because parking is really difficult in this area. When we walked in we were greeted by the hostess and she sat us. The place is small with dark lighting but cozy. We were served by Octovo and he was good. For my drinks I got the red sangria. My second one took a while to come out so they gave it to me on the house. I only wanted something small for food so I got the patatas bravas and it was so fresh and tasty. I loved the aioli sauce and it had a kick. My friend got the pinchos de pollo and she liked her meal as well, it did take a while to come out though. And most importantly the food is UNMATCHED! Absolutely everything I ate was delicious I have no complaints at all! Tapas are the vibe, get in here and have a good time with some great food. They also had really great drink options and specials -- I had the Passionfruit sangria which was a special (11/10). When you come here you have to try the crab cakes and do not leave without trying a desert !! What are you waiting for? Hey Foodies, took me a few months to get this one up here on Yelp, but I'm all caught up. Casa d'Paco is a great place for you to try out. My grandfather comes from the same region of Spain as the owner's dad so I am familair with a lot of these dishes. Bit keep in mind the menu covers most of the regions of Spain. Located in the middle of a residential street, parking is tough, but do a little research as there are plenty of inexpensive ( or free) parking lots in this part of the city. When we went. the main restaurant was still closed ( assuming still due to Covid). However they have an extensive "outdoor area" ( old driveway & garages?) that are covered ( walls too). Decor is as ok as you can get under the situations. Plenty of staff, our waiter was "ok", nuff said. They have Happy Hour drink specials. However, IMO, these drinks are not as strong as when you pay full price. I had a few margaritas and didn't even catch a buzz! :( THE FOOD---very big menu, but when there is a tapas ( small plates) menu, we like to try them & share a lot and drink. We tried many of the dishes you see at most tapas bars + a few other things....all of these were tried and liked \ loved. --Presa Ibérica : grilled thin sliced Iberian fresh pork shoulder topped with Spanish pimentón ; In case you didn't know, Iberian pork is some of the best on the planet ( even in cured form, many think it's better than Italian prosciutto or the standard Spanish Serrano ham) --Chorizo Criollo con chimichurri --grilled Galician sausage w. potatoes in the house chimichurri sauce. --Croquetas de jamón iberico--Iberian ham croquettes ( a staple that EVERY Spanish place should make well) --Pulpo a galega--Galician style octopus served with paprika and olive oil ( a must try & presented very well here) --Aguacate relleno--half avocado shell stuffed with crabmeat, shrimp, minced onion, egg whites and in-house made mayo ( I try this at almost every Spanish or Cuban restaurant I see it at. This version is one of the best. Amazing & refreshing. --Camarones al ajillo--sautéed shrimp in garlic sauce was the only just "ok" dish. I will absolutely come back for a date night, happy hour, lunch, etc. Staff was super attentive and helpful. They gave great suggestions for a first time. My biggest gripe is that parking is awful. It's a very congested, multi family, residential area. There is not a lot for the restaurant, and street parking will be tough. However, there is a $5 valet, so if you want to avoid a parking headache, valet could be a good option. read more

One of the best tapas places in NJ. Too many places treat tapas as a novelty, and up-charge so much for mediocre food. Not Casa d'Paco. Every time I've been here, my orders tasted great. Don't skip out on the patatas bravas! This establishment offers a very wholesome paella too. I appreciate that the owner spices things up with new gastronomical ideas, and keeps the home crowd favorites. About the atmosphere and staff. It's a nice cozy place. There is no avoiding me looking asian, but it dismays me that some people are accusing this place of racism. I received none of that with me and my party. I've been to this restaurant a good five times throughout the years and the staff never made me feel uncomfortable or out of place. I have even got drinks on the house when on a less crowded day. I suggest we avoid any misunderstandings. I can see where the staff may not be 100% ready and slower due to peak hours. Just be nice about your expectations. Mistakes happen, but remember that the staff are humans at the end of the day. Bad days do happen. About to go to Casa d'Paco again, thanks. read more

Came into town for a concert, booked a reservation a few days in advance. Do not let the neighborhood vibe fool you. This place is fantastic. Sorry I do not have more pictures beyond the 2 I'm posting. We had several tapas, all were delicious, after finishing at our table we moved to the bar for desert ... the tres leches was delicious and our bartender Will was a pleasure to talk to. Seated in the cold outdoor heated tent where a large party was so loud in the cramped "room" that there was zero ability to talk to anyone at our table. Also: even tho we told the waitress we wanted all food to come together so those getting tapas as meals could eat with those getting main dishes as meals, that just didn't happen. So we ate separately and it was very awkward. I didn't complain but when she plopped down my tapas lamb something or other (very forgettable) it was with a gruff explanation: "the small plates always come first, that's how it always is.." even though I had said nothing. It made for an off tempo, strange outing that will never be repeated. No water either. We all asked several times for water. They'd bring a glass of water. We said again / no, we all want water and then another glass. Waitress was very cold and unaccommodating and folks there is no "valet parking" in any way we've seen it before. There's no lot. The place is on a tiny impassable single lane one way road and then there's a guy who double parks your car around the corner or down the block. Now: we are not new. We are all older. We know what tapas is and how it works so bf we ordered we asked: can everything come out together? Yes, we were told. Also- outside in a semi-heated covid era expansion room? Don't do it on a cold winter night. I guess the only good thing I can say is that my food was ok though unmemorable and at least we didn't feel like we got ripped off. It's reasonable. This authentic family run tapas joint in Newark is terrific. The area in the front is the standard bar scene with futball, aka soccer, playing on everyone TV. The cramped back area is for dining and is always packed with locals as well foodies from all areas of NJ and even NYC! I came here without a reservation on a Sunday around lunchtime, and no one was there. However, we were asked if we had a reservation, assuming that their tables were all booked. Regardless, we were seated almost immediately. We had ordered the cheeseboard, paella, steak empanadas, their daily soup special and their ceviche. To start, we were given three rolls of cold bread and some butter while waiting for our meal to arrive. Next came the soup, which was lukewarm and was more on the citrus vinegary side. Then empanadas came out and it was the star of the entire meal. My friend who is Venezuelan said it tasted right and really enjoyed it. My other friend and I, we thought it was just okay, but agreed it was indeed the best thing we ate here. The cheeseboard felt like it's been sitting out for a long time and definitely not worth the price we paid, even though there was one good cheese that we enjoyed. The ceviche..where do I even begin...when you think ceviche, you're thinking diced cubes of tomato, cucumber, onions, shrimp and/or raw fish marinated in a lemon juice mixture. However, what came to the table was pretty much cold tomato soup with a few large shrimp and octopus. Highly disappointing. Last, came the paella, which looked good, until you eat it. The rice literally felt like it came out of a microwaveable packet. The entire dish was really wet, which wasn't a huge problem but it just did not taste good. With the number of positive reviews, this was highly disappointing. We did not want to finish any of the food nor take it away. I'm not sure what went wrong, but never again. read more
