I agree with a previous reviewer that this place is dated with charm. The proprietor is a lovely man who makes your sandwich with glee and a song. While the store's atmosphere is aging and in need of a little pick me up , it's nice that they make fresh pasta and have a selection of other Italian corner store goods for purchase. I got a deli meats sandwich (not an Italian). The meat was cut in front of me on a slicer and fresh , but I found the sandwich a bit salty, even for deli meat (maybe the bread or the meat ?) . Great service and a nice local business , even if the food I sampled wasn't at the top. I'd bet the pasta and the eggplant parm are great here. Maybe next time read more

I've never had anything less than a stellar meal from this place, and I've been working up the street for almost a decade now. I prefer their Italian sub to Bob's in Medford, it's that good. The couple owning this place is really kind and thoughtful. While the store inside is in a bit of a time warp, it does have its charm. The ziti with sausage was fine. The pasta itself wasn't overcooked and the sausage was very lean. I've rarely had sausage that lean. It might not be for everyone but I liked the meaty texture. If you're in the area and need some Italian food products but don't want to go to a supermarket, this is a good choice. Also, you can get a sandwich here for the road home. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. They simply have the best Italian subs! The meats are cut fresh for every sandwich that is made. The best part is watching Luigi make the sandwiches. You can see lots of love being put in the subs. Everything in the italian sub is tasty and fresh. We've moved 40 minutes away and will make the drive just to get the Italian subs here. There is a scene where Genco's father unwillinly fires The Don from his store, Vito tells him that he will always be grateful for the support that he has shown him. I went there today. It's called Casa D'Italia. The owner Luigi is a throwback too. " We make a all our stuff ina house a. Not like a those other guys " in a thick Italian accent. We chatted about lemonciello and bracciole like we knew each other for years. He made a chicken parm. I didn't mind when he didn't ask what type of cheese? He knows. Have been going here for a year now. It is a nice little convenience store that has a lot of different variety of foods to offer. The owners, Luigi and his wife Sarah are nice and friendly. The menu is extensive and everything is prepared fresh daily. The quality is incredible. I love the Italian sub, Italian tuna sub, chicken parm sub, meet ball sub, and the egg plant sub. Pretty good homemade ravioli ($7.50 for 18pc tray). They also have a wide selection of imported Italian foods such as cookies, pastas, San Marzano tomatoes, and general convenience items as well. After having visited Salem Foods and leaving less than wowed, this place was on my peripheral, and has become the place to grab Italian goodies short of the North End. While some might say that my southern Italian pride is a vested interest, Luigi is a truly nice guy, and helped me find all the fixings for the Northern (but still delicious) Pasta Amatriciana. For meats, this place is definitely on the A-game, and very reasonably priced. The Italian grocery selection is noteworthy, I was most impressed with all the variations of San Marzano tomatoes. However, they were missing two of my all-time favorites, Pan di Stelle and San Benedetto Iced Tea. The real hidden gems in this casa are the deli sandwich selections, ranging from a mere $5-7. While subway shops go with Waltham like Snooki goes with Pickles, this place stands out as being the only one with Porchetta (Italian pulled-pork) Totally sets it apart from the rest. read more

I stopped by Casa d'Italia today to get some stuff to make dinner with. The man who worked there, Luigi, was really friendly...I told him I had never been there before so he showed me around. There were so many great things there...fresh pasta, huge deli, homemade sausage, and frozen ravioli and manicotti. The sausage wound up being VERY, VERY salty...almost inedible so I had to dock them 2 stars. I'll give the sausage another shot but this first time didn't bode well. They had some yummy Italian cookies that I love, but I couldn't get them because I'd be sitting here eating the entire bag. read more

This gem is a little bit of Boston's North End on the South Side of Waltham. As others have mentioned, it doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but inside is an authentic Italian market and deli. I went there today to buy a couple of Italian cold cut subs to go. The first thing I noticed when he handed me the bag was how heavy it was. These subs are built on a sub roll that looks like a loaf if Italian bread, and they don't skimp on the ingredients. Everything was fresh and delicious. Parking can be tough, but this place is worth parking a couple of blocks away and walking if necessary. I highly recommend you check this place out! read more

This is the best authentic, home cooking Italian food you can ask for. I lived next door for 6 years and it was almost a second home. The proprietors, Luigi & Sarah, are extremely personable, and unless it's during one of their crazy (and it can get busy quick) lunch rushes, they'll strike up a conversation as much or as little as you like about just about anything. Everything is good there, but if you just want a sandwich, I highly recommend the Italian Special...but be careful.
