Professionalism is non-existent. The rudeness, in fact, is systemic. Just look at previous reviews. The owner and manager are both vile people. I will never step foot in Carytown Pack & Ship again. While the junior staff is fine, the manager, Stephanie Clark, is completely unhinged. I went in to pick up my business mail--something I've done for months--and was met with a screaming tantrum. She slammed her equipment on the counter and began yelling at me in front of a store full of people because she wanted me to use an app instead of just showing my ID. To make matters worse, she then refused to give me my mail--a criminal act (theft) and federal offense since it's U.S. mail. If you are a business owner, do not trust this place with your documents. The lack of self-control from management is startling and the "customer service" is non-existent. Avoid if you actually want your mail. Or even if you just expect a modicum of a normal experience. read more

I have been going here for years. Highlights include Stephanie Clark, who has always been efficient, knowledgeable, and helpful. I have never had a problem with any other staff member. Always my go to for shipping of any kind. read more

Absolutely great communication and packing. My item was well well packed and arrived safely. Thank you for your attention to details.

Stephanie Clark is the unkindest, rudest and most unprofessional person I've ever met. All the other comments are spot on. They managed to loose my UPS package and she talked to me like it was my fault. Now, UPS is going to REFUND the lost package to the store, NOT TO ME!!!! Be smarter than I was, don't use Carytown pack&ship, EVER!!! read more

They are great folks - helpful, friendly. They care about the quality of packing items, the environment and shipping things efficiently and eco-friendly. They make it easy to drop off packages, give you tape, etc. I also appreciate that they take a stand on things read more

Always friendly, always awesome. When FedEx lost a package, THEY reimbursed me for its value - not FedEx!

very nice workers :) good for depop sellers! idk why this place is so poorly rated ive had nothing but positive experiences

I have been using this location as my ship to since I live in an area where packages tend to get stolen. Everyone working there are always very friendly and helpful. I use them for shipping services also. read more

Said it was open on line. I called and they said they were open but would be closed for Presidents' Day. Drive 20 minutes to find them closed read more

Wow Stephanie is one of the rudest persons I have encountered at a business and has NO customer service skills. She will speak to you like you are the hired help and try her best not to help you. She possibly could be off her meds. Best to go down the street to the Packing/mailing store in Carey Court. read more

Rude service! The old lady was talking down to me and snapping in my face multiple times after I asked if they can tell me that my label is valid. They are also still wearing masks.. what a joke read more

I have never made a bad review in my life, so trust me when I say "Do Not Go Here" the lady/manager is very disrespectful and rude. She also damaged 2 of my rims while trying to weigh them. She threw them face down on a metal scale with no care in the world. I repeat do not go here, go anywhere else. read more

The owner? (older male) is the rudest person I've ever met. Refused to give receipt. Will not return.

I have to say that this business is in a great location for when shipping FedEx or UPS but the attitude that the lady continuously has that works behind the counter is unbelievable. For someone that works with the public day today she is never friendly to talk to. I loathe going here without a pre-printed label that I can drop off without interacting with her read more

I went in yesterday because I wasn't sure if the documents I was sending would be too heavy for regular postage. The staff kindly let me know that it would be fine and all I needed was a standard envelope. I didn't have cash for the 10c envelope and they let me take it without paying. I felt bad in the moment but they have definitely secured my business in the future. This is why I love small local businesses. read more

Nolan was a huge help in tracking down my DHL package. He went out of his way to call the warehouse and working with them to figure out the shipping issue I had. Great service and really helpful and polite. read more

Carytown Pack & Ship is my go-to spot for all my non-USPS shipping needs. It's conveniently located in the same shopping area as Ellwood Thompson and Burger Bach, thus sharing a parking lot with both businesses. That said, I'd suggest avoiding a package drop-off during lunchtime, as you'll be competing with market and burger customers for parking spots. Otherwise, parking is typically a breeze and you can be in and out in just a few minutes. I often have prepaid UPS or FedEx packages, so I just run in, drop them off at the counter, and head back out to take on the day. I've never had the chance to really engage in a conversation since I'm usually jetting in and out, but the staff is always friendly and on the ball. I don't think twice about taking my packages to this conveniently located spot with quick, professional, and pleasant service! read more

Carytown Pack & Ship - Shipping Centers Near Me - Richmond, Virginia

Rude customer service. i showed up with a Package and return QR code from Amazon and the lady behind the counter blamed me for showing up. Last week we shipped 8 boxes of our deceased son's belongings from Richmond, Virginia. Stephanie couldn't have been more helpful. She took her time, made sure that we received the best rates and added tape to some of the boxes to be sure that they were secure. She also was very caring and empathetic. I highly recommend this business. read more

Needed logistics support from hundreds of miles away and they took care of it without a hitch.

Came here to drop off a FedEx package. Soon as I walked in, the gentleman behind the counter (who was dealing with another customer at the time) directed me right where to put it (on the table immediately to the right after you enter). Pretty efficient! I can't attest to anything else here, though parking was very easy and the storefront is attractive. Here's hoping they have what you need too. Overall: 5.0 stars -------------- Pros: - Convenient location at the edge of Carytown. - Lots of easy parking. - Knowledgeable staff. Cons: - None, really. It's a shipping place, long as they get what you have to where it needs to go without any drama, it pretty much serves its purpose. read more

I have never met someone that put someone out of a store because they were mad w/the person on the phone on FaceTime. My god-daughter was shipping a package for me and something just simply got lost in translation. When my god-daughter went in to ASK A QUESTION the employee Stephanie was loud and snappy. She could hear me asking the question about other delivery options she was loud, rude and disrespectful.. I asked is it an issue w/asking a question and she proceeds to yell and tell my god-daughter she needs to get out because I (on the phone) am getting loud w/her. My god-daughter was being nothing but kind and the messenger. I on the phone was on a phone talking to my god daughter asking her to as Stephanie a question about how much a next day or An estimated time. Lesson for me never go back to a place where the customer service does not value a customer better yet anyones Question. 2. Just go directly to UPS, ISPS DHL, FEDEx. 3. Hire people who are above to be professional customer service employee.s. Stephanie was having a moment. well bring is important and Carytown may want to give Stephanie some disconnect days because something is truly going on with her because reading reviews and spoke to a few ppl I know use them and they say with Stephanie that can be normal behavior. She needs some support so Carytown Pack and Ship give her her disconnect wellness days because it does not look good for your business UNLESS professionalism and kindness is not part of your service. Also, I sent my god-daughter to USPS and received great customer service, able to ask questions and next day delivery for $9.80 opposed to $16 w/no estimate delivery at all. read more

I recently purchased dolls at a VA auction house. I requested that my purchases be shipped. The auction house selected Carytown to ship the dolls. The total auction sale was just short of $400. Carytown charged half the initial sales price to ship the dolls. As if $200 shipping cost wasn't bad enough for 5 Barbie doll, 2 Himstedts, & one porcelain doll (which arrived with broken leg). Carytown never disclosed the cost of shipping on any of their emails. Nor did the Carytown's employee provide a cost heads up during our conversation. I specifically ask the employee to ship the dolls by the cheapest means, however, two days later the dolls arrived in extra large shipping boxes. One box was 32x7x30. The only Phone conversation was around 4:30pm Thursday and dolls arrived mid day Saturday. Clearly the principle of the prudent man was not applied. Additionally during that conversation I asked the employee to mail the 2 himstedts in their original boxes. Oh no, she said the USPS will not allow us to wrap the boxes for shipping. She was totally deceptive and out to gouge the shipping price. From a location in Mid-Virginia via the cheapest method to Charlotte NC would not have taken just over 30 hours. This company took total advantage of a shipping opportunity to over charge. I talked to the Carytown employee once, received 6 emails however, the only way I knew the shipping cost was my credit card statement. read more

Just left store as I was trying to find the closest location to drop off a package. Lady with hair in a bun (apparently a manager or supervisor) was extremely nasty when I asked why I couldn't receive a receipt or some type of confirmation for my records that my box had been dropped off. Every other Fed Ex in the city is able to supply that whether by computer or email and it protects the customer if package is lost or delayed. Then she comes from behind the register, grabs the box and slams it on the copy machine while explaining something about making a copy. I politely thanked her and told her "never mind" I'll try another location. Wow....was producing a receipt worth all that??!!?!!?Was mine such an unreasonable request???? read more

The bad reviews must be from old management. I went to this shipping store with a few packages to get shipped in Richmond and had a fabulous experience. With many packages mailing to different places they let me CHOOSE the lowest shipping price for each box and compare Fedex, Ups and the post office. Its great to have options and I dont think a UPS store would let me do that. Personally, I found the staff very patient with me and all my trips to the counter. In hindsight, I'm glad my wife snapped this pic before she sent me off on this shipping errand with the boxes we had laying around the house I thought I needed (was gonna be just for laughs). I thought going to the Fedex Store was going to be the best place for rates but I ended up having Carytown repack the fedex box with a new box because they found cheaper options for me with smarter sized packaging. 5 Star experience for me! Thanks Carytown! read more

Went in with my 4 pound item and was quoted $8 for a box and $48 to ship it via one-week ground. That seemed high so I went over to the UPS store on Cary St. and paid $6 for the box and packaging and $13 for the same shipping. $56 at Carytown Pack and Ship vs. the $20 I paid? read more

My elderly father came to the store last week to Fedex a letter for me. Standard overnight delivery, domestic, in a FedEx envelope weighing less than half a pound. The person at the counter initially rang it up for $98.23 and then reduced it to $73.44 when my dad said that price seemed very high. It still seemed high to him at the reduced rate, but being constrained for time and under the impression that these were standard rates set by Fedex, he reluctantly paid. When my dad told me what he paid, I knew something was off. The shop was closed at that time so I called Fedex corporate and gave them the tracking number so they had all the relevant info about the package. They said that the rate for the exact same envelope if we had gone to a Fedex store would have been at most $38. They said that Carytown Pack and Ship would be invoiced $25 by Fedex as the wholesale rate for this shipment. Yesterday I went to the shop with my father to get some answers. The owner was there, and he said that Fedex Authorized Ship Centers (FASCs) are entitled to charge whatever they want and are under no obligation to disclose their markup. He would not issue a partial refund. I called Fedex again, this time the customer complaint line, and asked them if it's acceptable for a FASC to markup standard rates by somewhere between 200 and 400 percent. Moreover, the receipt gave no indication of a markup or surcharge. It simply said the cost of "shipping" was $73.44. Fedex said that this was way out of line with the markups that FASCs typically charged, and they apologized profusely. They said they are investigating this incident and will get back to me. As a small business owner myself, I believe in supporting local shops. But it's this kind of behavior that gives all small businesses a bad name -- arbitrary and unreasonable pricing coupled with a deliberately opaque fee structure. I hate to say it, but shops like this deserve to go out of business. read more

This is a convenient location to service all of your shipping needs. They make it easy. I go whenever I have a return and the prices are reasonable. It cost me 50 cents to mail my package and I was able to email them my shipping label to be printed in store. This took me fewer than five minutes. If you're in a hurry, go here, avoid USPS. read more

Went in with a friend to drop off a return. Tried to helpfully hold the box closed while the guy taped it, and he very rudely said "move your hand." Afterwards we asked to double check that he had attached the label (it was an expensive return we would have been on the hook for) and he smugly responded with what seems to be his catchphrase based on other Yelp reviews: "I've been here 25 years." Dude, we don't have to use your local business, and after that we won't ever again. read more

I have used this shipping center for my law firm for years. Today I went in to ship a return back to Harrods London. I tried to explain to the mature woman that I understood the requirements of DHL but was nervous about returning such an expensive item, $3500, so I wanted to be sure I followed Harrods directions as well, which I had on my phone. She insisted all copies in the box needed to be put on the package in a certain way. I explained Harrods asked that one copy be placed in the box to track the return. She said, "I don't care how that company wants this returned; I'm doing IT MY WAY that is WHAT IS legally required by DHL" I said that is great. I am a lawyer, so I know a little about the law, so let's follow the law but ultimately, I ONLY care about what the company wants because they will issue my 3K credit and if they ask for a copy in the box, I want to provide it. Finally, I was so shocked at her behavior I took the box away from her and left the store. I ended up taking it to the DHL facility by the airport. At the airport facility, the DHL employee apologized for how I was treated at the partner site in Cary Town. She also unpacked everything the other rude woman had packed in the shipping label envelope and told me she didn't even pack it up correctly. She explained they are the actual DHL facility and that it was fine to put a copy of what Harrods was requesting in the box. Had I listened to the woman in Carytown, my return may not have been processed at all when the package arrived at Harrods. I WILL NEVER USE THIS STORE AGAIN. I WILL DRIVE OUT OF MY WAY TO AVOID THE UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE BEHAVIOUR. I wasn't going to leave a review thinking everyone can have a bad day. I actually told the representative at the other DHL that maybe the rude woman was having some personal crisis. NOW after reading all of the other awful reviews, it sounds like this happens all of the time in that business. I have used the UPS Store on Brook road multiple times. The service is always efficient and the people who work there are very friendly and helpful. read more

Convenient location and hours so I stopped by after work on Wednesday to drop off my prepaid UPS package and get a drop-off receipt. I waited and waited so peeked around the wall and the guy was fighting with the back door and told me offhandedly he'd be there in a sec. He pleasantly took the package and said I have proof of delivery if I have the tracking number - when I explained I needed proof that they received it, he said he just couldn't do that, so I took my package with me to go to a place that could (any other UPS shipper). read more

I am a freelance illustrator and went to this location to ship a painting for a client. Owner was aggressive and resistant to my questions about shipping. He was also weirdly condescending about how valuable the parcel was ($275) stating that the store had been around for twenty years and shipped paintings worth $2,000. He seemed to want me to know that my package was not worth his time. Then he insisted that my only option was ground shipping for $27 and dismissed me from the counter to help the next woman in line. I was so frustrated that I went to the post office and mailed it for $7. Save yourself a bizarre social encounter and $20 and ship with the USPS. read more
