I honestly didn't even know there were freestanding Carvel's. I only ever knew of their cakes in the grocery store, but I am so happy to have drove by this Carvel and stopped in. We got soft serve and a Sunday. The soft serve was soooo rich and creamy. You know it's good soft serve when even the vanilla tastes good. I got the chocolate vanilla swirl with their signature "crunchies" on top. YUMMM those crunchies are delicious. My dad got the brownie sundae with hot fudge. The hot fudge was out of this worldddd. Every time I come here Im never disappointed. The owners are such sweet people, great service and the cakes are made personalized and absolutely delicious. Try the Nutella ice cream, it's literally heaven on earth. They give HUGE portions here. I always order a small and I'm stuffed! There are a bunch of soft served flavors which I don't see at many ice cream stores (always basic vanilla and chocolate) Not sure what the negative reviews are about but I never had any negative experiences here especially since the pandemic- everyone is friendly, they wear masks and appropriate PPE and give you huge portions. Do not go to this location. I'm sitting in my car writing this on my phone because of how upset I am. I've never been treated this horrible in an establishment. What occurred just now has me so flabbergasted. Here is what happened when I decided to treat myself for some ice cream today. I walked in this location 80 covert ave, Stewart manor, NY. I asked the guy working at this store if it was okay to get hard and soft ice cream for the buy one get one sundaes on Wednesday. He said it was fine. So he made my sundaes which were both hard and soft ice cream. He then tells me when he goes to the ring me up they are not buy one get one because it's only soft ice cream not hard. Okay fine, but you told me I could get the hard ice cream that's why I asked before you even made them. I saw the "manager", a very nasty lady, talk to him so I assume it was her that told him. He likely made an honest mistake. I understand that, but that is not my issue here: She then steps in and says it's only soft serve that's buy one get one, and "there is a sign" and says "just so you know". I didn't see the sign, but I ASKED the worker before he made them if it was ok to get hard ice cream for the deal, and not just soft. He said YES it can be either. So I told them they should honor this because I asked beforehand regardless of the sign, and the manger was like "ok this time, you want them or not" in a VERY RUDE manor. I told her I do want it but she treated me like I was stupid so I kept trying to say I asked about the deal, didn't see the sign, etc, and she said "you don't have to carry on if you want them take them if not LEAVE and don't come back". I told her she was nasty and I walked out without the sundaes. You don't treat customers like that. I worked at another ice cream store for 8 years!!! You simply say "I'll do it this time but just so you know for next time it won't be this way". In a nice way. You don't tell a customer to leave and never come back, with a nasty face and hand gestures!!! You'll see these hand gestures on the camera. At that point my face was extremely annoyed. Not once was she understandable or nice to speak with about an issue. She was rude, and loud. There's better carvels and a much nicer way to go about something like this. I hope something is done about this and I am sad I had to walk away from my treat to myself all because the "manager" could not speak to me properly. (By the way I specifically asked if she was the manger and she said yes. I was so infuriated I forgot I ask for her name. But she was acting this way in front of other customers too, which is extremely unprofessional.) read more

I realize times are rough, but when you're trying to support small businesses and being taken advantage of, it's frustrating. I purchased a cake there for my son's birthday and tried to buy several $5 gift cards as "goodie bags" for his party. I was informed their minimum for gift cards is now $10. They're charging a 3.5% fee on credit cards as well. I called the Carvel on Hillside and they're happy to sell me $5 gift cards- guess I'll be going there from now on. read more

I had a situation with the manager name Liz very unpleasant person. With all that we are facing as a community this woman Luz needs to take 10 steps backwards and realize what life is all about . Had a wonderful experience at this Carvel, and I am somewhat surprised / disappointed to see some of the comments in poor reviews listed. Was buying a birthday cake on Saturday for family party, and came here after terrible experience at Carvel on Hillside & 265th (literally NO selection and looked at me like I was crazy that I wanted to purchase a cake). Drove an extra few minutes to Carvel on Covert and was completely floored by how huge the selection was! Multiple items to choose from, and location is clean and well kept! Woman that helped me was extremely pleasant and helpful in making my selection. Was very impressed with this Carvel and will certainly be making the extra drive here going forward! read more

I wish I could give this establishment no stars. I walked in and saw the sign that stated "walk up to the cashier to pay". As I am still looking in the freezers a woman says in a nasty tone "You have to come over here to pay" The sign was right in front of my face, I saw it and was still looking. I brought my Whale cake to the register and asked to have something written on it. The woman asked me, very nastily, "How do you spell it" I told her I would write it out, and proceeded to reach for my phone, but instead she walked away and grabbed post-its and a pen, threw it on the counter. So I wrote what I wanted starting with "Happy Birthday" but before I could finish "happy" she said VERY annoyed "you don't have to write Happy Birthday" OK... so I write the name, which she then repeats back to me every letter. I take the cake and leave, because I felt very uncomfortable, like I was a massive inconvenience to her day. When I got home the cake had the complete wrong spelling, I was pretty annoyed because I definitely did not write that on the paper and she repeated it back with the correct spelling. So, I drove back and when I walked in she glared at me and asked the other gentleman there why we were back, but she called me over and I told her it was spelled wrong. She then proceeded to say "No its not, and spelled it out" I replied by telling her that is NOT what i wrote and you even said the letters before you wrote it. She took the cake to the back and I guess she tried to "fix" it because she was there for a while until I saw her take another cake from the freezer. I re-wrote the name that I wanted and looked at all the spelling before I took it. When she gave me the cake she tossed it on to the counter (FYI a chunk of the tail did come off when I opened the box) I have never encountered such poor terrible service, at an ice cream shop none the less. Paid for a medium was given a kids. When I said that was the kids they told me no it's a medium and made me pay for a medium. I got a cone and she jammed her finger in the side of the cone and she was not wearing gloves. When she drizzled the fudge it went on the outside of the container and her fingers. It was about to fall on the floor and she picked it up with her bare grimy hands. Would not be going back. Disgusting. Couldn't even look at it. read more

I love your ice cream but if you are going to stay open late you should be able to serve ice cream. Came in at 940 when they close at 10 and no soft serve available. I've been a huge fan of this Carvel store for years now. The ice cream flavors are so unique and fun; my favorites are the Nutella and cherry vanilla! The staff have always been warm and welcoming and portions are generous. They have tons of ice cream cakes readily available for special occasions too, including the amazing Fudgy the Whale cake covered in hot fudge! Do not go to this carvel!! I have no idea why the franchise owner hasn't fired the lady which I'm assuming is the manager for this location, unless she is the owner. She is the nastiest, rudest human being I've ever met working at a franchise. More than once this lady has been rude and just unprofessional. The first time I tried to ignore the fact that she was a real bitch when I asked for a extra small cup. Her response was unprofessional to put it mildly. I've been there a few times trying to order a cake and the way she speaks to you is very unpleasant and rude. My third time going there was a week ago to get my sons ice cream and again this lady was a real B when her employee asked if she could changed the item because the order was incorrect. I hate confrontations and my kids are still young so I didn't respond to this lady. I think this manager a racist or maybe she is just a nasty old B. Either way the head of carvel franchise needs to look into this. Check the reviews on Yelp!! I'm not the only one. This has been our go-to Carvel since we moved locally! They are professional, personable, reliable, and nothing is a problem. I have ordered all my boys' birthday cakes here for 6 years and each time they came out incredible. They are able to accommodate allergies and diet restrictions. I think the staffs of this place are racist. We end up coming here to purchase a Father's Day cake due to the store in New Hyde which is closer to us running out of ice-cream cake. I never felt such a unwelcomed presence as soon we walked in. I am asian and my husband is american (black) and i wished i was with my husband at the time he was paying for the cake we bought because i stepped outside with our son as we wait for my husband to finish with his transaction....when he got outside he told how me how he felt so offended how the cashier was flipping his $20 dollar bills and checking it with the money pen like a hundred times...i mean c'mon,....i just wish i was there when he was paying for it so i would have just told my husband "Forget it and Let's go!!" read more

Worst Carvel ever! Management is so cheap!!! My family and I go to Carvel all the time but find BOGO Wednesday to be a great past time. The cashier lied to our faces and said that they didn't have pecans when because they're too cheap to give their customers what they ask for. It's so bad here that they have a sign posted not to verbally abuse the employees which tells you that they've obviously been cursed out for their subpar service. read more
