So ,I'm in Miami driving along, just minding my own business, and I see a Carvel ice cream shoppe. Suddenly, him 4 years old, sitting on my Great Uncle's lap "driving" his special fancy car to go get some ice cream. Mind you, this is the same man who drove Samuel Clemens whenever he was in Connecticut. I thought this place was out of business, So it's been at least 30 years since I went here Yes I was very hesitate to come in, because this is one of those romanticised places where I severely run the risk of being disappointed. I mean.. I actually got a cone from Tom. We were at a grand opening, and also one time he just happened to be in our store. I actually hugged him. He was amazing So, yes, the fear of blowing up some potentially severely romanticized memories is real. As I stood outside debating, I could tell this place is dated, and seemed to have similar decor and even wallpaper. OK... it's hot out here. But whatever I do, I'm not getting "Fudgie The Whale". We could never afford an ice cream cake. I open the door... and holy crap, the smell is exactly the same. Not sure what it is... just "Carvel Smell". My God, I'm back negotiating with Grampa Joe or Uncle (fill in the blank) ... or Gramp (I was always trying for that big cone) that I can eat an extra large all by myself. Of course I couldn't. Went out last night for a shake ,about 9pm I believe it was and I waited super long line which was not the issue,what was the issue is when it comes to be my turn I asked for a shake and the woman who was attending me ,well let's be clear she didn't attend me she laughed and let me know the shakes had to be done in the blender...I said ok So I proceeded with my next order a second shake and she laughed again and told me I wasn't understanding her that she had to do the shakes in the blender .so because she had to do so there just not available at all and only thing to purchase was what was out infront of her seemed like she was just being lazy and not wanting to do them when clearly she asked the lady infront of me hard or soft serve when she told me it's broken smh bad business I will not be returning and telling all my friends same thing little customer service goes a lot of way read more

Carvel reminds me of my childhood, going to the beach and craving a soft serve vanilla icecream cone with rainbow sprinkles... Mmmh so good ... And obviously my go to when i come here. Although very small and not pleasing to the eye it serves it purpose.... Sometimes. If you go in to close to closing time they wont have soft serve... I learned my lesson the hard way. There customer service is horrible here too... No one greets you when you walk in and they never smile. Which is hard to believe because id be happy to be around icecream all day but these people hate there job. Came an hour before closing and it was empty. The employees didn't say hi as we walked in (even tho it was just us) and that always makes me feel super awkward lol and there was some trash on the floor and a lot of the display freezers were empty. Overall felt very apocalyptic but still got four stars because once we did interact with employees (to order, pay, and the guy sweeping held the door open as we left and said bye) they were all very pleasant... and I tried a new ice cream flavor and it was awesome. It was chocolate hazelnut- my favorite flavor so far. The ice cream tasted like Nutella with little crunchies in it. Not sure if they were bits of hazelnut... I ate it too fast to investigate. However it is close to my boyfriend's house so we will probably be back again! read more

We have stopped by several times and never had any problems. Staff has always been kind and helpful regardless of how crowded it is. There is parking for the shopping center it is located in, also. Sometimes there is also a police presence there within the shopping center's parking lot or directly across the street. Carvel is that familiar place that has the same menu in every state, it's a staple in my life. I don't go there all the time, but once in a few months is nice. On Wednesdays last time i checked, they had a special ice cream deal which was cool to come across.
