I never expected what just happened at Mamaroneck Carvel at the corner of Barry Ave & Halstead Ave I sent my grandson there with a coupon for Buy one get one free This coupon was in a 4 page flyer He ordered 2 small ice creams and was charged $10.50 !!! First he was told that it was last weeks flyer ! Bull---- , the expiration date was 7/7/19 but still took the coupon !!! When I called the MANAGER he insisted that nobody showed a coupon to anyone and then proceeded to tell me that we must have gone to the Harrison location!!! What a bunch of liars !!! Did you ever get a soft serve ice cream cone, that tasted too light and no creaminess? The reason is that they pump AIR into the system so that less creamy ice cream is produced. The prices for anything are not shown and it is clearly intentional. The owner is not helpful or friendly. The smallest cake they have is $29.95 which is $10 more expensive then the Carvel in New Rochelle about 3 miles away. Stop n Shop as well. This being one of the original carvel locations in the country, it's impressive how much they keep themselves up to date on everything. Last year, ralphs opened up not even a mile away from them, which definitely hit them pretty hard business wise. Being a small business owner myself, I stayed loyal to this carvel because it's family owned and operated. The family that owns this carvel are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. They remember you every time you come in, and pretty much always know your order. They have all the flavors you love, as well as all the new ones. The only reason I can't give this carvel a 5 star rating is because they're only open until 10 pm on Fridays (I tried to go the other night to get my ice cream fix at 10:30, and they were closed). This was an okay ice cream shop, I feel like all Carvels are the same. The good thing is that when I arrived there wasn't anyone so there was no line. They had a good selection of ice cream so it was nice. However from the last time I was there they seemed to have raised the price which is insane. Did you know these guys make CUSTOM CARVEL WEDDING CAKES???!!! We ordered an ice cream wedding cake, and it was BEAUTIFUL. Three tiers, iced beautifully, and they even added icing flowers to both this cake and an overflow ice cream sheet cake. I've been to this location twice, but the second experience was a total deal breaker. I ordered a vanilla milkshake and it was way too thin, there was way too much milk in it and you could really taste that fact (it tasted more like milk than ice cream). It felt more like a cup of milk with a little ice cream thrown in rather than mostly ice cream with a little milk to thin it down like a normal Carvel milkshake (I've had plenty over my lifetime, none ever this thin). They're called "thick shakes" for a reason. This one was literally pourable and sloshed around while I drove home. The cup also had the wrong kind of top for a milkshake, it was one that you'd use for a Carvelanche or a Sundae Dasher (huge open top). Will not be returning to this Carvel location after wasting $5 on a slightly creamier cup of milk. read more

Best vanilla soft serve on the planet. New Yorker's take it for granted, but when you leave the area, soft serve just ain't the same. The one problem with Carvel is since the ice cream is so rich, getting things like sundaes and toppings can make things very sweet. The freshly made flying saucers are amazing as well. This is one of the original Carvel locations and I have been coming here since I was a child ( I won't tell you how long that is!). But the guy who own this location took this place and turned it around and it is always busy. It has really delicious always fresh made ice cream hard packed, soft served, cases always stocked. the ice cream is great but the service stinks. I really was amazed at their portion serving. They fill the cup straight up, no swirl, so basically you get a 1/2 service. Not the friendliest service I've ever had. No indoor seating. The outdoor seating is right on the corner of a busy intersection so I never feel safe eating there.
