She spent around 7 minutes cutting my kid's hair and told me that is all she could do using scissors. The result: a very VERY un even haircut and my kid's hair still long. I brought my daughter to get a wash and blow out while my son received a hair cut. We've been here multiple times with different hair dressers for my daughter for the same service. This was our first time with Tien and she looked at my daughter hair said it was too long and knotted to do her hair and refused service. Said she was going to up charged the service fee. Which it has never happened before. She walked down the hall asking other hair dressers loudly if they wanted to do her hair. I agreed to the up charge only because we were already there and my daughter was looking forward to her hair being blown out. Worst service we've had with Cartoon cuts. Tien should learn customer service etiquettes or find a new job that does not require working with kids or parents. Not acceptable!!! Another hair dresser told my husband that management have raised prices and not to tell customers. The website still list hair cut and other services of $25 when booking online. The price increase is not much. Which I would not mind paying. Tien did not tell me price have increased prior to telling me my daughter hair was too long and knotted and said she wouldn't do it for the price listed during booking. When I went to tell Tien to do my daughter hair she was talking to 4 other hair dressers sitting there doing nothing. It was not a busy time and was only 1 hair dresser with a customer. She has been cutting both their hair since they were babies, and has done every cut except one (in a pinch I took the boys to the barber- will NOT make that mistake again). I took my 2 granddaughters for a trim. One of the girls was lucky in that her stylist took time to listen and made suggestions and she ended up with a very good cut that allows us to manage her curly and frizzy hair so much better. I would give this stylist 4 stars. Unfortunately her sister's haircut was the worst I have ever seen! The woman, who is not pictured on Cartoon Cuts Fairfax Mall website, immediately started cutting bangs way too short AND crooked, about an 1 inch above the eyebrow. Needless to say the woman was unable to correct this and to compensate she barely trimmed the rest of my granddaughter's hair. First world problems I know and hair thankfully grows back, but I could have done a much better job myself without investing time and money. read more

The staff is friendly and competent. Much better than the Dulles Town Center location. It's also bigger and can handle a multitude of clients. Their prices have increased a couple bucks in the past couple of months. The hair stylists understand how to deal with kids and always asks how you want your child's hair cut. And will keep on asking if the cut is good or not til the end of the haircut. The cartoons (many choices) are a great distraction for the kids and keeps them calm. A lollipop after the haircut is also a plus. And the great thing is that Cartoon Cuts partner's with Ellie's Hats (a fav charity of mine). UPDATE (and downgrade): It's rare that customer care "trying" to make things better makes an opinion of a business lower, but dammit man, that's exactly what happened here. I was already frustrated, but after what seemingly started out as an attempt to make things right turned into dismissal, I left Frustration Town for the big city of Angryville. I'm replacing my original review with text from my email exchange with CC's customer service person, both her original follow-up and her subsequent lack of follow-up. Me: Per your request, the date was September 25 (Black Friday) at the Fair Oaks mall in Fairfax, Virginia. I don't recall the name of the stylist, and did not retain the receipt. The specific complaint is that when the stylist finished with the boys' hair, it looked fine, but when we washed out the styling that night, we found crooked cuts and lots of hairs that were missed. For example, their hair had been hanging over their ears, and even though she cut it above the ears, there were a significant number of hairs that were still hanging over the ears. On one kid's hair, the bangs are significantly crooked (see attached photos). After the stylist cut his hair, she styled the front with gel. Once that was washed out, we found that the only way to obscure the uneven hair was to style it with gel as well, which meant buying kids' gel and trying to figure out how to style it. Usually we just do a quick comb job to get rid of their bed-head, and trying to style it is not only outside our skill sets, but requires time we don't have. The other's hair is more or less in the same condition. (I had them done one at a time so I could focus on them if they got scared, so the same stylist cut each boy's hair.) Normally this is the sort of thing I'd go back in to have corrected, but haven't had time thus far. (Maybe I'll find time soon, but like I said, I don't have the receipt, so not sure they'd even fix us up.) I trimmed the strays around the ears and on the back of their necks, but I'm hesitant to do the bangs and possibly make them worse. All that said, the stylist and the guy who rang me up (manager?) were super nice, the facility was clean and looked good, and the in-store experience was great. But I am very sorry the tide has changed and you have two boys with crooked hair. My first step is going to pass this along to my director of salons and wait for him to reply. That said, when the first boy was in the chair, my wife asked that his hair be left as long as possible. We understand that cutting hair makes it shorter, but we wanted it to be evened out without taking off any more than possible. My wife restated this request two more times as his hair got shorter and shorter. Again, we understood that the hair would be a little bit shorter, but if it was going to be as dramatic as it was, it would have been nice to be told that going in. Something along the lines of "Okay, I can even this out, but it means I need to take this much off, or I can leave it longer, but not quite even it out as much." Just a warning as to how short the haircut might end up being would be nice. I think she saw how distressed my wife was, as on the next boy's she had him out of the chair in a few minutes with much less cutting, and he was the one with much more uneven hair after the first cut. Also, she told us that our boys' hair is very fine, which makes it more challenging to cut, an that we need to tell the stylists this when we bring them in. This seems like the kind of thing the stylists should be able to spot and adjust for on their own, not something we need to bring to their attention. Lastly, as of today, 12/21, we still have not received the "golden tickets" you referenced, even after providing an address per your request on 12/02. If you still would like to send those, great, and we wil try a different location. (No further response from CC) read more

Although he cried the entire time, the stylist was great- she cut his hair quickly and made every effort to make him feel comfortable with this new experience.
