Now I live 1.5 hours away and since we were driving through I wanted to stop and find new sandals as mine (bought here) were about 10 years old and all stretched out. I love this store. Anyone with narrow feet should visit this place. I found 2 pair of sandals and would have bought more if they had my size. One pair was identical the to ones I bought years before. The shoes run narrow, fit beautifully and are reasonably priced. Yes some shoes are expensive but I do not think any more then at other non chain shoe stores. There selection is large. The staff is average.

Also, the employees aren't super helpful or knowledgeable about the product that they have in stock. When I initially came here a few times I would say that the employees were fairly, responsive and customer service focused however I would not say that that is the same case anymore. Customer service has gone down and so is the current collection the new balance offers. They also pretty much charged the same price if not more despite the prior models that are offered at this location. There are barely any sales anymore as well, so there really isn't any value here in terms of shopping besides trying out shoes that you could try out at another actual new balance location not this one.

All were done excellently, and at a very reasonable price. (Sam charges before the repair, so there's no surprise high cost). Once I went in to have a shoe stretched to have room for a bandaged toe, and he said that the shoe material would spring back within a couple days. So he recommended instead, that I remove the thick inner pad until the bandage came off; he cut a thin leather to replace it, at very low charge. Another visit, I was second in line when a lady came in to pick up a glossy red shoe that had been severely scuffed. Sam had matched the color perfectly, but no one could have restored the full gloss where it flexed. But the lady was not satisfied. So Sam refunded her money completely, despite having done a couple hours' work. He is competent, helpful, and ethical. That's the way he does business.

I found Bay State and called the store to find out their hours and talked to the owner. Luckily, they were open on Saturday morning just long enough for me to drop my shoes off and possibly pick them up on the same day. The store is in downtown Haverhill (not in the heart of downtown, just on the edge) and has ample free parking. It is a an older building and the repair shop is a bit worn, but I don't really care about how it looks as long as my shoes get fixed correctly! The owner looked over my shoes, said he could repair them in 1/2 hour and even offered to replace the elastic strap on the other shoe before it failed as well. I asked him to clean them as well, and his estimate was just $15. When I went back after 30 minutes, they were indeed ready at the stated estimated price. He did a great job on the stitching (it is even and looks professional) and they are fixed and look like new! Great price and great work = 5 stars.
