This is my little hidden gem. But now I guess since I've shown it to someone, I gotta cop to it. OK here goes. Don't miss the gift shop across the hall!
Backstory (note: skip if you don't like fun anecdote's): When I was a kid, I spent a year going to grammar school on the site of this shop. We used to have fire drills all the time. I never knew why 'til later. Turns out the school was deemed unsafe because it was an old wooden building. It was torn down and replaced with this senior center.
Skip to me as a grown up, I realize there is a secret little side entrance which leads to a thrift shop to the right and a gift shop to the left. Ooooh fun! So in I go. I soon realize that the thrift shop is full of old people stuff most likely donated by members of the center. But you can snag some really fun finds! One of my most famous buys was a mint condition mens plaid tuxedo jacket with black satin lapels. Cost? $1!
My most recent visit got me a floor length terry bathrobe with hood (missing belt, small tear under the arm) $1. Just the fact that I could find a floor length bathrobe was priceless. And if Barbara tells you I totally snagged it out of her hands, she's telling the truth. But she couldn't buy it 'cause it woulda been way too long on her (boy am I thankful she's not tall!).
So if you happen to be driving through Methuen and you get the urge to do a little shopping, do stop in! They're open 9:30AM to 3:30PM M-F. read more
