I am giving Blue Moon a one star because of something that seemed very shady. I found some items that I wanted to purchase, they added them up and then said " Oh we have to contact the seller to make sure it is okay to sell them." I should have questioned why at the time but I tend to believe in the honesty of people. They were going to "call back" when they heard from the seller. It has been awhile now. Now this store has a little bit of everything! ... first time venturing out this way, and I ended up meeting someone from my town and walked around together ... she made me feel like a newbie to antique and vintage shops! She has a laundry list of favorites, most of which I do not know of! I have lots to explore! So, this store has a mix of everything (furniture, clothing, household goods, home decoration items, etc etc etc!). I got a bagful of goodies ... some new neat vintage threads and home dec stuff! ... and best part is ... all at great prices! Very reasonable throughout the store...some of the vendors are pricier ... I held out on a figurine that I adored, but a little much for what it is. Store reminded me a lot of the Cambridge Antique store with the multiple booths and each booth can have a promotion going on (like 20%, 30% off everything etc). This store is very worthy of visiting again! And the store owner(s) there were so nice and welcoming. Jack had fun too :) read more

To be clear, I am not someone who posts negative reviews. I've worked retail for quite some time and serve as the union representative for my workplace, so I try my hardest to be as understanding to fellow retail workers as I can be. That being said, it would feel wrong of me to walk out of this store and not mention the terrible attitude of the employee working that day, Michelle. My partner and I just moved back to Haverhill and wanted to see if there were any neat finds to make our house feel a bit cozier. It was somewhat near closing time, but we still had over an hour to shop. We started browsing a few things at the front when we overheard a conversation being had between Michelle, a father, and his son. The son was an adult, and seemed to be on the spectrum, but that is not my place to categorize or assume. My point is only that there was a clear communication barrier that could've easily been bridged with a little bit of common decency and patience from Michelle. The son first asked what time they would be open tomorrow, to which Michelle briefly and angrily answered. He then went on to ask who would be working, which I can understand an employee declining to answer in some circumstances, but seeing as this is a facility with multiple vendors, the question did not seem out of line. On top of that, instead of politely declining to answer, Michelle ignored him completely until the father politely stepped in and said something along the lines of, "Why don't you ask again, bud? I'm not sure she heard you." to which they were met with "I don't know, I don't own the place" followed by more condescending dismissal as well as visible frustration and anger. The father then asked, once again politely, "Is something wrong? He was just curious and asked kindly" to which Michelle then threw her arms up, defeated, saying "I'm just trying to get things done before the end of the day!" becoming more heightened in tone and frustration- to a dramatic degree, seeing as we heard this from across the store. My partner and I decided no wicker basket or side table was worth enduring this interaction much longer, so we started making our way out. We however, were treated FAR differently, with Michelle warmly smiling and wishing us a nice day. My partner expressed that he wishes all customers were treated as nicely as we were, but clearly that's not the case and that we were greatly disheartened by the way the other customers had been spoken to. I can understand an employee having a bad day and showing some sense of defeat after a long shift. I've had coworkers have bad days and display some less than perfect behaviors to customers, but this was beyond that. My work is pretty accommodating in how we are allowed to handle customer interactions, but I could never imagine one of my coworkers speaking to someone the way Michelle did. A simple answer, or even a kind refusal to answer, would've sufficed. Perhaps even something as simple as "I'm sorry, but I'm preoccupied with store-closing tasks right now, give me just a sec" could have prevented this from being such a nightmare to witness. This place is a really fun browse. Lots of different stuff from different eras and very handy that it's just down the street a little from the Goodwill--you can do a lot of thrifting in one go! When I went, they had a little furniture, tons of curios/knickknacks, dishes, and glassware; some CDs and DVDs; costume jewelry; purses. Lots of random things. I'm curious how much the inventory turns over but will be back to find out! read more

If you come here, make sure you have a ton of time. For me, this store was always the kind of afterthought after a customary excavation of the Salvation Army Store (separate review) right across the street. There were always curiosities in this musty, cluttered, but generally tidy antiques shop, but as I was usually looking for clothing fit for high school halls, bloomers from actual Victorian times or rigid fringed leather vests from the 1970s were just too real and too anachronistic for me. And to my untrained eye, the other curios filling the shop appeared to be the kind of old, creepy junk that you could find in any elderly person's attic or basement. Approximately seven years later, two of which were spent working for a prestigious design and architecture firm, either my taste has changed or the store's contents have changed...or both. It was already late when my mother and I exited the Salvation Army, so we were going to hurry homewards. But then, I saw something irresistable; a green Celtics sweatshirt, appliqued with a leprechaun and all sorts of bright banners. It was simply amazing. I burst in through the door, demanding the price of the shirt. One lady scrambled up into the display window to check out the tag. "Fifty," she said, as I groaned in defeat, "...and it looks like the price is firm." "Don't worry," I said sullenly, "Somebody will DEFinitely buy that." My consolation was to find an antique glass lamp; the kind that looks like a kerosene lantern from the days of the pioneers but holds a regular bulb. I asked to see if it worked, and the same lady who crushed my dreams of the Celtics sweatshirt brought it over to the spacious area behind the counters and tried plugging it in. "Hmm...might be a bad bulb," she said, and spent the next several minutes gently coaxing the glass chamber out of the base in order to put a brand new bulb in and show me that the lamp indeed worked very well, and could be all mine for $12.99. I spied a nice deep sink with fancy handsoap and feebly asked if I could wash the layers of thift shop grime off my hands. No problemo! With clean hands, I placed my lamp aside in a safe spot and continued browsing the store, truly tempted by a $6.50 white hobnail glass sugar and creamer set, oval gilded frames with handstitched images, $1.50 to $3.99 antique portraits and negatives, a $3.99 DVD of Blue Crush, a $4.99 cardigan from Abercrombie and Fitch (before the store started marketing solely to 10 year olds), a $24 painting of a sailboat, an $8 length of brightly cross-stitched linen, an $8 black lighter with a cross-stitched rose and a gold plated top (I don't even smoke!), and a $50 toilet seat made of shells and sea creatures epoxied in place by a pearly glaze. Meanwhile, my mother had made it deep into the belly of the store, where there were Pendleton jackets for 5 bucks (the "urban woodsmen" of Williamsburg could just DIE here), an illustrated book by Erica Jong on the social history and current existence of witches, purses, antique sewing machines, fancy lighters, more hobnailed glassware, and on and on. The sounds of the two ladies closing up shop and whispering about possible closure during a snow storm on the next day made the sweat course down our backs as we rooted ever faster through so many old treasures. The genius behind this store is that the antiques are completely usable, especially within the semi-nautical aesthetic of most New England homes. But the prices are so outrageously cheap that it is impossible to walk into this store without buying a BUNCH OF STUFF. Case in point; we walked up to the register past closing time to impulse buy a tuned and freshly stringed Suzuki No. 6 model guitar (and case) for $48, a painted cowhide purse for $2.95, and the aforementioned $12.99 lamp. "Did you expand this store?" I asked. "No, it's always been like this..." the ladies replied. "Are you sure? I remember it being tiny." "Maybe we cleaned it up," they said. I asked how long the store had been around and whatnot. The answer I got began, "Well, first it was Auntie Em's, then Jennies...." What I concluded was that this store has been around for at least 15 years, and like the objects within, has changed many hands. But the hands have all been gentle and the goods have remained good. This is a real score if you are looking for unique gifts for a very special someone (or for yourself)...all for the price of a rotgut cocktail in NYC. read more

What had long ago been "Annie's" changed seamlessly around a decade ago to "Jennies" and now has emerged after a month's remodel as "In a Blue Moon". One of three owners is gone but if you didn't know, you'd be none the wiser. That squishy floorboard in the back is fixed, there's some new paint and carpeting but most of the dealers are still there. There's treasures still to be found in these walls. read more

I haven't reviewed this since it was Jennies. This place is a cool place to peruse through the junk trying to find a treasure and it's very hit or miss. I used to love this place a lot more, but lately the vendors haven't been as neat and orderly as the former tenants (some cubicles have been trashed the last few time I went.) Other than that, I love looking for a rare item that sparks my interest and i especially like watching the customers who call themselves "collectors" and buy things and things and things. I once bought a full set original 1928 monopoly game with all the pieces for about $26- score! read more

I have found so many awesome things in this store I can't even list them all. You can walk in here and get lost for hours. I really did prefer the old location though. I hope they do well and expand. It needs more room. Other than that, prices are fair, selection is incredible and there are so many unique finds to discover here. Definitely worth the trip. read more

A little crowded in terms of walking space, but there are some great deals to be had here! Far better than the S. Army on the same street. I found several nice kitchen items. Each vendor prices differently, some more generous than others. Prepare to spend more time in here than you think you will - there's more here than meets the eye so it's not easy to breeze through. Very friendly staff working the day I was there - but happy to leave me alone as soon as they realized I had no actual interest in chatting, which I really appreciated. There's not a ton of furniture here which is what I like and what I shop for most. There are lots of knick knacks and collectibles, toys, pictures, and vintage pieces, but I went through way too fast for a place with so much stuff. I've been going here for years and just love the place. It used to be called Jennies, but now is "In a Blue Moon," as one owner left the group of owners. Some people claim it's less cluttered than before and has been painted but I've never noticed the difference, aside from the name change. I've found really nice pieces of Depressionware here at times, and at a very low cost. I also found a really cool ole milk box, which I put on the porch of my colonial home. Looked great there, esp. with a few empty glass milk bottles on top. I also found a beautiful, elegant vintage doll and a gorgeous old phonograph complete with old (working!) radio. Plus a fantastic old Life magazine with stunning photos from Apollo 7. You can always find a neat little treasure here. Just a great place to come and spend some time. You won't be disappointed! And yes, In a Blue Moon takes credit and debit cards. No checks though. read more

Great shop, MUCH larger than it appears from the sidewalk. Most items priced between $5-$25, and lots of variety. Many vendor booths to peruse, and every week there is a sale in several of the booths. Stop by when you have 10 min or an hour! read more

Loved this place and my wife loves me more for taking her here. Never know what you're going to find on each particular visit. Prices are fair for the most part and the employees are not only friendly, they are extremely beautiful. If your husband is clumsy just buy him a sandwich and leave him in the car and let him play with the radio. A wide variety of interesting stuff. I collect vintage pyrex and can usually always find some here. Just an fyi, they're very stern on their closing time and if you try to go in 10 minutes before closing they generally don't allow you to browse. My only complaint is that I wish they were open longer, they close at 5pm. read more

This is a fabulous place, so much, to see and buy.They have just moved to a much brighter and cleaner store a block down the street. The vendors here clearly take pride in their booths and the merchandise is good quality, There is one vendor who sells beautiful vintage high end bags like Coach, Dooney Bourke, and Fossil all cleaned and conditioned. Another has great jewelry. There is also some well made vintage and antique furniture for low prices also very nice clothing either gently used or new and always clean. Tons of nick knacks and vintage glassware and of course some very cool oddities. If you have a high school grad moving to a college dorm or apartment this is the place.This store is a gem and definetly worth stopping in. read more
