    Savory hand pie

It's hard to get pictures of these hand pies because you want to devour them immediately!! This is one of our favorite weekend traditions-- Carter & Rye has a rotating menu of hot and frozen hand pies, check out their instagram for the weekend line up! It's a tiny little shop, with joyful service. You can expect a wait at times for either a line out the door, or for them to heat up a hand pie fresh for you.

Delicious filling and buttery flaky hand pie casing? What more could you want?! Carter and Rye is a fantastic locale to stop in on the weekend for a sweet or savory hand pie, with options for frozen ones to go to tide you over during the week while they're closed. Most recently I tried their spicy mango filling as well as their truffle Brie, both of which were absolutely delicious. I love supporting this local, women owned business!

You can dip it, you can lick it, you might definitely want to kiss it... I'm a freaky fan of Carter & Rye and I highly suggest you give it a try. Most recently I had the Honey Lavender Blueberry, Salted Nut Roll, Caprese Pizza Pie, and Sausage Gravy haystack, but keep in mind that the selection changes weekly. We've had Greek hand pies, cherry almond, and many more. All have been Tasty with a capital T. They're always busy do be prepared to wait a few, but so worth it and the staff is friendly and on top of getting you in and out quickly. The plants in the front window are a nice homey touch making you feel welcome. Pricing wise, it's less than a full breakfast, but just as filling. Couple hints: They come hot and frozen, get done of each. When cooking the frozen at home, I'm finding it's more like 13-15 minutes @425.

If I could give this sweet, friendly place a 10 I would. Such a delight‼ happy faces greet you with a friendly hello. Picked what I wanted and off I went with 2 hand pies and a coffee. Not only was the hand pie both warm, they both where crispy delights. The savory one I couldn't put down. As every bite was just darn delicious, and the sweeter one was just as wonderful, and a regular cup of Joe was the right touch. I'll see you next weekend to see what flavors are next

It's a convenient way to enjoy dessert! Or it's also a fabulous breakfast treat! The flakiest hand pies ever! My hand pie is a raspberry cream cheese wrapped in layers of flakey pastry and baked to perfection - a golden brown and topped with the perfect amount of sugar! I have also had the brown sugar, also delicious! They also have savory hand pies too! Delicious!

Have been here several times now and still love the product-- homemade pop tarts. Small menu, but tastes great. Today they had two sweet and two savory. The sweets were brown sugar cinnamon (my fav) and blueberry which got a delicious compliment from a gentleman who was just leaving. The savory flavors were bacon, egg and cheese or a local mushroom polenta. I picked the bacon, thank-you, hot and delicious. I'm not a fan of their coffee but they do have other drinks including hot chocolate. Carter And Rye continues to be a solid addition to the neighborhood.

Fire roasted peach and basil. Wonderful pop up with Coneflower creamery. Paired with a delicious buttermilk ice cream. Wonderful service!

This sweet little hand pie shop is an amazing woman owned business and is full of amazing smells, awesome people (Hi, Kate and Missy ) and great conversations. These gals are a joy and you can tell they are passionate about their hand pies and love what they do! I just want to say these are the best hand pies I have ever eaten! You can tell they are made with love! They use very high quality butter. (You will have to ask them about the butter) and they also use amazing ingredients and local ingredients when they can. There are usually 4 different flavors every week (2 sweet and 2 savory) and they come up with the most exciting and yummy flavor combinations. I love that they will warm the pies up for you, if you prefer or you can have it to go and warm it when you get home. (Ask for instructions) You can also get a big batch of frozen hand pies to go, so you can have a backup supply if you can't make it in the next week. They also partner with a local coffee place and also have fresh juice. My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed talking with Kate and Missy. They make you feel like you belong right there in their cute little shop, in their cute little neighborhood!

What a unique little hot pie shop in midtown! The place is small and plants adorn the front window. Walking in, the fresh smell of pastries meets you immediately. Almost as a immediate was a smile and hello from behind the counter. Service at Carter and Rye was friendly and swift. The selections today were: Bourbon pecan, Raspberry for the pastries and Chicken Pot Pie or Spinach artichoke for the more hearty pies. I ended up getting a raspberry pie and a chicken one for lunch! The pastry on both was light and flaky; wonderful and delicious. I also ordered coffee which was flavorful, Ethiopian blend. I had some oat milk added to it too. The sign on the front window said open 8 am until sold out. As we were leaving (at 8:20 am), there was a line forming out in front of the place. They may be sold out pretty early today!

You're missing out if you haven't tried Carter & Rye yet. The savory crust is so addicting I crave it every week and some weekends get it two days in a row you will not regret a trip to this heavenly shop!

Cute little shop down on 36th and Center Street. It's really exactly what they say... Pie crust and filling. Was curious if the crust was more towards a toaster strudel flaky type or a piecrust. Definitely more like a piecrust with sugar sprinkled on top. Tried the cinnamon and sugar and also the strawberry rhubarb. Both were tasty! They are only open two days a week so I was glad I remembered this happen to be one of the days! Don't expect a ton of filling inside the pockets but just the right amount to make it to tasty.

    Deesha P.

If you've had these hot pies at the farmers market, well now you can get these through out the week as well! This cute little shop, with friendly owners, serves hand pies, kind of like fresh toaster strudels, in both sweet and savory flavors. They sell out fast so options are limited later in the mornings. When we went there were brown sugar and chicken pot pie left - both were great in taste and texture!Best as a grab-n-go since there is no indoor sitting area

DP ordered Lemon Berry Pancakes, a plate-filing short stack of goodness. I'd like to say it tasted as good as it looked, but I couldn't tell as DP chowed down like a hound from hell. In a good way, of course. She did allow me to share her Maple Braised Bacon (meaning that I was able to snatch a piece while she wasn't looking). Really, really fine, something I'd definitely order again. For me. Not to share. I had the Schnitzel Bennie with tart cherry jam and lemon hollandaise. Sound unusual? Tasted great! My only gripe was that the pork cutlet was a bit small and could have used a bit more seasoning in the breading. Would I order it again? You betcha! Service was fast and efficient. The decor was quirky and inviting but the space was loud enough that it was really hard to carry a conversation. Overall rating: yahoo!

My husband is a much harsher critic than I am, and he gave it a "rare 5.5 out of 5." The pancakes were some of the fluffiest I've ever had. They also have a great selection of coffee flavors to choose from, which was a fun bonus. The coffee paired perfectly with breakfast, though I probably wouldn't come here just for the coffee alone. The flavor was good but it did have a slight burnt taste. A quick note: you order at the counter before sitting down. It's a mix of self-serve and sit-down service. You order at the counter, grab your own silverware, and seat yourself, but they bring your food and drinks out to you (other than water). I do wish they were a bit more attentive about clearing finished plates during the meal. The restaurant was so busy that the line was out the door when we arrived, but it moved surprisingly fast. I was worried we wouldn't find a table, yet there were plenty of open seats available. The atmosphere is also really nice and cozy, making it a great spot to start your day.

Ok the other hand, the service is rather iffy & unpredictable. The chicken & waffles is my go-to for each visit, and they have many types of delicious sides to choose from, with my favorites being the biscuits & berries, goat cheese grits, and also the fried green tomatoes. I have zero problems with the food that they serve here, they always do an excellent job at preparing whatever they need to prepare & the portions are always satisfactory. As for the service, there are days where you will receive perfect service while on others the service is not so great. Some days you will be attended to in a timely manner, while there is other days where there isn't anyone available or willing to seat you somewhere. I've also experienced instances where they didn't attend to our table to take orders until I made a complaint. Most of these instances were during days where the place was virtually empty so it's not because of the place being busy. I've also ordered take out from here before, again some instances are perfect and there's other instances where they don't tell you if a certain food is out of stock via text or call so if you ordered something that isn't in stock, you're forced to wait for them to prepare something else once you arrive to pick up your order. They also don't always include syrup or butter in the takeout bags for chicken & waffles. One minor thing I'm also disappointed about is how the portion of grits has lessened over time, going from being served in a bowl to instead being served in a small cup/mug. Overall, I certainly don't return for the service because you never really know if it's going to be a good day or a bad day for that. It's always the food that brings me back. I do want to like this place, and I do to an extent but again the service is always unpredictable. I'd still say the food is worth coming here to see how it goes.

The dinner service manager is knowledgeable and passionate about the dining experience. When we ordered the radicchio salad, I was skeptical that it would be bitter, but was curious to try it. They were fairly busy, and honestly our food took a bit to come out, but I am still giving a five due to the overall experience and quality of service. Our server Melannie was fantastic and always present. We did the bottomless mimosa deal (3 out of 4 of us) and she was always coming around asking us what flavor we wanted next when our current was still half full to make sure we got our moneys worth. The champagne might not be the fanciest, but for $20 bottomless mimosas I'll take it. They have fun flavors in addition to the basic ones like strawberry, mango, etc. which adds an element of fun. For food--there were several things I was eyeballing but landed on the spicy chorizo Benny. It was really good, eggs cooked perfect, and came with hashbrowns. Another at our table got the poutine which also looked yummy. I'd say the food portion could have included a bread/toast option, however If brunching in Omaha i'd return to try several things on the menu. The vibe inside is chill, would be more fun sitting outside once the weather warms up. Since I was the one that booked the reservation, the tab got a bit confusing. At first they were taking it off my total, then the server said that hold would come off so I paid for my meal/drinks there. I did end up getting double charged (for both the reservation hold and my meal) which was cleared up with a quick phone call to their establishment---apparently it is a new process they are trying. I do understand though why they wouldn't want to just deduct the hold as then people that don't know how to tip wouldn't tip on the total, which hurts the server. All was cleared up regarding this mishap though so no complaints.

May 25th, 2026 Food:…read moreWaited a whole hour for an easy order... which was a mini charcuterie board with a plate of avocado toast... when it was served... it looked pretty and at first I didnt mind about the long wait, but I was disappointed because it tasted like it was made an hour ago but was barely being served to me a whole hour later.. so yeah.. not worth it and now I do mind.. a soggy toast isn't on my list.. Ambiance: It was a nice regular refreshing bar/brunch spot. But safety was a HUGE issue which is where I'll get to my point of this low rating. Service: Is negative zero a thing? That goes to the owner... the 1 star is for the decent service my server attended towards me. In unfortunate events it's not the servers fault.. but overall with the owner coming out, couldnt be anymore careless.. The Cause: Either the owner or a staff employee whomever that is responsible for setting up the patio umbrellas, and I mean those large heavy metal patio umbrellas, well, they failed to lock the pole of the umbrella and unfortunately the umbrella lifted and blew away and had hit a family in the face that were dining there also; instant noticeable bruising to the face... I was only a table away from them.. it could have been me too. I am disappointed in the lack of care in general that surrounded the scene. Little 5 ft me... was the only one that came to help while everyone else sat around and minded their own business... it took a long while until one of the staff noticed to help and then the owner came out and awkwardly said a one word-sorry and dipped... didnt come back to offer any hospitality, non-genuine and non-apologetic... it made me lose my appetite. They had the audacity to still charge the family their meal... but I had to tell these really nice folks to make sure they get comped back. It was sickening to me on how careless they were treated. I would never come back! I mean an exaggerating long wait, cold soggy food and careless hospitality from the owner himself. That's three major strikes. P.s. That same wknd.. the news showed up about a South Carolina woman that was struck by a patio umbrella and died on site... that says alot about lacking safety. Yes, search it up. It's real news.. Hope this help improves the business alertness. P.p.s. And although I was disappointed at this dining-bar overall... I still tipped my server a good $20 as the situation was out of their control, my server was still attentive towards me. They all just need social common courtesy in empathy and hospitality. But anyways, my lunch ended with bittersweetness with the family that got struck, they comped my whole meal for genuinely being the only one that was concerned for them. The only service I'm grateful for was that.
