Genoa Loop Trail

Genoa Loop Trail

It's been years since I last hiked this loop on a hot Summer day in July…read more This is a steep trail and there are parts that narrowed out, but hubby and I walked single file through those parts. We spent a day hanging out here, but we stopped halfway for a break and lunch in some shade. There are plenty of little rivers that flow below the waterfall. Hearing the waterfall kept us chugging along because we were ready to cool off. This wasn't the biggest waterfall, but we enjoyed our time in it. It was very private once we actually got down there and so happy we were in our own little oasis; we had the whole place to ourselves. With all the precipitation we received this year I can only imagine how beautiful and full everything is. I'm planning on revisiting this Summer to see how everything has grown.

We set off on this trail that starts in the historic town of Genoa at the end of Carson Street which is north of Main Street (same side as the Genoa Bar - look for the Orchard House). You will see a gravel parking lot and the Genoa Loop Trail sign at the start of the trail. We opted for the 6 mile round trip to the waterfall adventure on this particular day as we headed out. With an elevation gain of 1410ft and many switchbacks be sure to carry plenty of H20, wear appropriate footwear, maybe bring something like a granola bar or fruit and as always pack out, what you pack in. The trail is well maintained, but can be narrow & steep at times with bicyclists and furry companions allowed on the trail too. Please be sure to bring leashes along with doggy mutt mitts aka poop bags, there is a trash can and mutt mitts at the beginning of the trail but better to be prepared and there are no poop fairies. Remember everyone is out there to enjoy the beauty of the Great Outdoors so ENJOY IT! We thoroughly enjoyed this hike, stopping along the way to take in the spring flowers, beautiful views, grab our binoculars to look upon Genoa, the Carson River & Jacks Valley. We crossed the creek throughout the trail with foot bridges, butterflies, and the reward of our hiking adventure was the Genoa Waterfall as it cascade over as we listened to it surrounded by the pine trees. So get out there, this is a GREAT waterfall hike with stunning views added bonus you are already in the quaint historic town of Genoa so why not check out the cute town and grab a bite to eat or libation. Enjoy and #moveyourbody!!

Mormon Station State Historic Park - Old wagons

Mormon Station State Historic Park

Clean park, Cool artifacts [Genoa NV]…read more The park is free, the museum is $1. Very nice, clean park/museum with lush grassy area and shade trees. HISTORIC Mormon Station is the site of Nevada's first permanent non-native settlement and replicates the original 1851 Mormon Station trading post that burned down in 1910. It was rebuilt in 1947 as a museum and today it stores many original pioneer era artifacts. It was referred to as a fort but it was never one. There was never any military presence here nor did any battles take place. It was actually a stockade. BUILT AS A TRADING POST We took a self-guided walking tour inside the stockade (the enclosure of walls built with logs placed vertically, side by side). There were informative boards, one sign asked to imagine if you were standing at that very place and what would you expect to see... we would likely see oxen grazing, stable sheds, a haystack or two and a small vegetable garden. The stockade was used as corral for the oxen, horses and mules. COOL ARTIFACTS There were authentic exhibits used during that period. I especially found the semi trucks of the 1800's amusing. There was a real life piece of a freight wagon as one of the exhibits. The wagon displayed is a California rack-bed freight wagon. Mormon Station was worth a visit. I would recommend to include a stop here for a perfect loop around Lake Tahoe. Review #3736

Worth the detour [Genoa NV]…read more We took a little day trip to visit the historic town of Genoa in Nevada. Genoa is just 25 minutes over Kingsbury Grade from South Lake Tahoe and about an hour south of Reno. We took the Kingsbury Grade on SR 207, a road that offers beautiful panoramas of the Sierra Nevada mountains but was pretty steep with a few sharp curves. It is actually listed in the dangerousroads.org website. The early trail over the pass was more of a footpath than a road. Now imagine those emigrants with their oxen, horses and mules taking this route as they forged ahead to the foot of the trail... When we reached the historic town of Genoa we parked our car and began exploring. It's a small town so easy walk: Flutter & Buzz Cafe - had brunch here Sierra Chef - had gelato here Genoa Bar & Saloon Genoa Courthouse Museum Dancing Deer - purchased a few souvenirs Mormon Station State Historic Park - self guided tour I wasn't expecting much in this charming little pocket-sized town.. I mean, Main Street is only but a few blocks but there was enough history and charm in this little community. Genoa started as a trading post called Mormon Station... founded in 1851 as the first permanent settlement in Nevada. Review #3738

The top is awesome for sunbathing on and heating up before sliding (literally) into the crisp and crystal clear Tahoe waters. Then, when you need some reprieve from the sun, the shade underneath is perfect. Joey was our captain. He was the ideal captain. Efficient, helpful, and would engage in conversation if you included him but not the type that turns into a "Chatty Kathy". Joey also navigated the boat like a pro-- I'm still impressed by how smooth he was able to keep the ride when going fairly fast even when we went through other boats' wakes. None of us got nauseous / "sea sick" (especially impressive because I was about 8 weeks pregnant). The included BBQ and cooler were nice to have, and the lily pad was a blast for our toddlers (though any age would enjoy it-- the adults in our group certainly did in between our shifts of child monitoring). We went to Emerald Bay on Joey's recommendation. There was a dock there that we pulled up to at the end for a quick bathroom break (at our kids' request) before motoring back across the lake to return to where we started. We met the guy who owns the company (Russel?) at a whiskey tasting event in Reno. Through the booking and confirmation experience we were really impressed by his professionalism and ability to remember his customers. What an all around great guy-- definitely someone you'd feel good about supporting as a business owner. Pro tip: get wet before using the slide and/or lube up with some tanning oil first! Also, if you're on the half day tour, fire up the bbq as soon as you anchor if you're cooking anything more substantial than hot dogs (we did country style ribs) that way you'll give the meat plenty of time to cook. Also, Wakebusters has life vests but if your kid has one they are already used to that's probably the way to go (our kids tried both and preferred theirs from home). Finally, wet suits are not needed, but they certainly make it a lot more comfortable for the kids (and require less sunscreen to be applied).

Five hours later, I was charged an additional $25 for a "child seat"--which I did not rent or use. We specifically asked about pricing for the Rad bike when we arrived, so this charge makes no sense. The same thing happened to two of my friends--they were charged an additional $75 and $50 hours later, also labeled as "child seats." When one of them called to ask about the charge, she was dismissed and told, "you're not that special," . Collectively, we spent nearly $500 that day, only to be hit with unexpected charges that were never disclosed or agreed to. To make matters worse, I am a returning customer. We rented bikes here last summer, and I've brought several visiting families here as well. We own a home in Incline and visit multiple times a year. I mentioned we were from San Diego--perhaps they assumed we were just tourists and wouldn't return. We've all filed chargebacks, and unfortunately, you've lost our future business. From start to finish, it was exceptional -- and it's all thanks to your amazing team and the extra touches that made the day so special. Emma and Jane deserve a huge shout-out for their outstanding customer service. Their kindness, enthusiasm, and genuine excitement added so much joy to my first-ever clear kayaking adventure. They made me feel comfortable and cared for every step of the way, turning what could have been just another outing into an unforgettable 49th memory. Emma not only climbed rocks to ensure my photo was one of a kind she treated us (my friend Candace & I) like she'd known us for years! You can't fake you love what you do for work- Emma lovesssss rock climbing and nature - and you WILL feel that from her And now to Jane, who highly encouraged my cowboy boot photo shoot!! What a perfect, unexpected bonus! It brought so many laughs and made my birthday feel uniquely me. The combination of gliding through the water in a clear kayak and capturing that moment with a fun, creative twist is something I'll cherish forever. Thank you for doing what you do -- for creating not just a service, but an experience that celebrates people and makes them feel special. You truly made my birthday one I'll never forget, and I'm already looking forward to my next adventure with you. P.S- I still feel Kayak/Paddle-board speed dating, is something you need to look into adding! With heartfelt appreciation, Amber (#sacramento) Also, say hello to Enrique (the famous soccer player)!
