My family heard about this park and decided to check it out on a Saturday afternoon in June. It is 30min-1hr from Mammoth depending on traffic. We parked on the street and donated $1 to go inside. They have history and artifacts inside the little museum. It was very informative. Outside there are tables to sit and enjoy the weather.

We were staying at Stateline, Nevada and needed to travel to Gardnerville to visit a friend. Unfortunately for us, the most direct route, Highway 207, was closed for construction. We were forced to take Highway 50, crossing over to 395, and then heading south. Attempting to make the best of an unfortunate situation, we discovered the Mormon Station museum in Genoa would be right on our way. I really didn't have high expectations for this visit; small museum quality can vary tremendously. But this little museum is a gem, and definitely worth your time if you have an interest in California Trail pioneers making the long journey west. The museum is in a good-sized log cabin, with several rooms housing varied exhibits about that time. But what made the visit for us, was the personal attention and historical knowledge of the enthusiastic docents on site: Lynne and Emma. They were quite friendly and welcoming, giving us a personal tour of the high points voluntarily, and answering all questions, including about other parks and places to visit. We shared their enthusiasm by the time we were done! This station was like an oasis to the pioneers, having barely survived crossing the 450 mile Great Basin. Here they could buy supplies, and their animals refresh themselves with the abundant vegetation, and get prepared for hurdling the last giant gauntlet: crossing the Sierras to California. Alas for the pioneers, they were captive audience, and the Mormon Station owner could charge whatever the market could bear for supplies. They had to pay 21st century prices for some items (like bacon) in the 1850s! The Mormon Station museum sits in a beautiful park, with large trees and nice pathways to walk, a great place to have a relaxing lunch. Sandwiches, ice cream and gifts can be found at the Janoah General Store across the street. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

Very nice park. Lovely grounds and interesting historical stuff to see. The little museum was just a dollar and had lots of stuff to see.

According to the historical marker placed at this site, "In 1902 Marion Jefferson Blackwell purchased 360 acres from the State of Nevada, 556 acres of adjoining land from Sweeney's Hot Springs and a lot with a house. He raised carp and catfish to sell commercially also hay and horses. Neighbors used the ponds for swimming and ice skating. Born 1847, in Hall County, Georgia he married Nancy Amna Mayes in 1866. While living in Jamestown, California his wife died. He then moved the family to the Carson Valley near Genoa in 1895. He married Martha "Mattie" H. Willey in Yerington in 1899, then moved to Eagle Valley in 1902. He resided here till his death in 1914. His descendants continue to live in the area." Besides its rich history, the park is a small neighborhood park with a covered picnic area, a small playground, and a--I want to say walking path but it's not because it literally goes no where into the grass (srsly why is this here?), so we'll just say--some concrete. Although it's now just mostly a manicured lawn, there are still remnants of the pond in the form of two sloughs that flank the park. Cattails and blackbirds abound! Be careful where you step here, because it's difficult to discern where the ground and water meet. Also, apparently someone was murdered here in 2016 over a drug deal done awry. So, maybe avoid the place at night.

Once you walk up the trail be sure to divert up to the scenic lookout a top a beautifully flat rock. that is where the other photo here was taken from in December 2025. I caught the sunset and ended up leaving the trail a little after most people might find comfortable. it had gotten dark indeed. on the NV side. Angry about the price of the ride for my wife (equivalent to a full day ski pass), so we decided to go for a hike instead. Great decision. Gorgeous day, challenging hike but great trail. We did the Barn Trail to the Cal/Neva loop (not enough time to up to the waterfall). Way better than paying for the gondola with a 5 minute loop around a metal platform...Stayed at the Marriott so just walked out the back of the hotel.
