I brought my clubs to South Lake Tahoe thinking just maybe I can sneak a round in. I'm so glad I made the drive out to this hidden gem. Well I call it hidden because who would drive out 35 minutes away? It's a dry November and there isn't as much to do in south Tahoe. It's totally worth it especially when you take into consideration the value. $40 with cart at 1:30p on a Sunday. The golf course is pretty much all to yourself. I was able to finish the round in less than 3 hours! Quick summary + Greens are in good conditions and undulating + Fairways are fast + Love the mix of flat and elevation changes + Tee boxes are well kept + Slope rating is accurate + Not busy during late November - Gets chilly when sun goes down - Some bunkers are bunkgrass - Greens are good but could be excellent (yeah I'm being nit picky now) read more

A very unique course, with a mix of flat holes on the front & lots of water, to some unique elevated holes on the back. The pro was super nice, definitely a happy dude! We played the 1st week of September: Greens were in good condition, perfect speed with mostly mild contouring. Fairways were over watered, far too wet. And the tee boxes were in poor shape. But an enjoyable layout! Yes it's not an Edgewood or Incline or Genoa...but the prices were appealing, and we had fun! read more

Sunridge has some really challenging holes if you've never played the course before, especially starting off with the first hole where it's pretty deceiving where you want your drive to end up. The back nine was really interesting with 3-4 holes where you're teeing off high elevated boxes down to the fairways. I do have to admit that driving down from the tee boxes were somewhat scary because they were so steep. Coming from north Tahoe, we'd definitely come back again! read more

Conditions were very poor, most green side bunkers were filled with water or mud or were grown over with grass. Greens were slow and bumpy.

The course is in the best shape I have seen it in. They have put an extra effort into maintenance this year. There are new carts that look great but don't actually perform better than the old ones. In fact they are a bit more dicey since they don't slow themselves down on the steep down hills. Ride the brakes or prepare for breaks! In reality, this is an excellent course in the under $40 per round range. I plays similar to Wildcreek in Reno, but with way more shoreline at Sunridge. (good mix of challenging and forgiving) Please don't come here with expectations that the amenities of a $150 to $300 per round course are going to be included. If you appreciate laid back golf that doesn't break the budget you will have a nice time. Perfect? Of course not. Super Pristine? Not so much. Friendly? Yup. Priced well? For certain. read more

Fun challenging course with a great atmosphere, Morgan and Ken are great! A little worried because the owners hired a consultant who doesn't seem to know golf and is trying to make it something it's not. So far the recommendations have been get rid of the dog pass and raise all the prices. Will need to reevaluate next year to see if I buy a membership here or somewhere else. read more

I had an opportunity to play the Sunridge Golf course this past week. It is located in South Carson City Nevada. Green fees were very reasonable, and the pace of play was excellent. The course provides beautify views of the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains. Lots of water and sand. Sunridge offers you a test of your golfing precision and strategery. There are several very elevated tee boxes along with 5 sets of tees to choose from ... helping to equalize play for various levels of ability. The staff was helpful and friendly. read more

My husband and I found this little gem while staying over the Thanksgiving weekend in South Lake Tahoe. We arrived around 1pm so we only did 9 holes but we had a lot of fun! Very pretty surroundings, not crowded and a good variety of challenges.Staff was friendly and helpful. Price was very reasonable. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT- IF YOU WANT TO DO ARCHERY GO ELSEWHERE-Family trip- wanted to do archery. Found this and called the number on the website in advance: https://www.playsunridge.com/recreations/archery/ We were told "no reservations are needed just come in and we have the equipment e.g. bows and arrows) the woman also added that if anyone needed lessons to let them know in advance as the instructor lives approx. 30 minutes away." Sounded great! We drove out there and found THE OPPOSITE: "No, you need to have made a reservation" and also," No, we don't have any equipment you need to bring your own" the woman then makes a call to check with someone and then tells us,"no we have no equipment some come but they bring their own." With the added, we don't have any golf carts to take you out there- you'll need to walk" Walking the the property we saw bows and arrows stored and the targets the woman pointed out were about 300 yds away. BOTTOM LINE: they could have accommodated us but didn't want to bother. read more

Called and booked a tee time at 7:56 for a Saturday morning expecting to probably tee off with another group. Get to the tee box, I'm by myself and the starter comes up and says "we don't book singles on weekends" (kind of a rude thing to say to someone as they are about to start their round) and I said "okay I'm booked and about to tee off". The Marshal came up and asked me to catch up with the threesome in front of me which I had no issue with. I caught up and told the threesome that the marshal wanted me to join them and they said they preferred that I played through. Same thing happened with the twosome that I also caught up with. Later on at the 11th hole, the marshal pulls up and threatened to kick me off the course because I didn't join with the groups that let me pass through. I pushed back and told him they all preferred I played through and that there was no one in front of me. Unbelievable, I'm trying to enjoy my round, the pace of play was not affected, and this guy threatens to end my round. Not my fault I was allowed to be booked as a single. I won't be coming back at least for awhile. The course is in great shape and the pro shop staff are very friendly. I'll be going to eagle valley for now on though. At least there you don't have to deal with a starter and marshal that have a power complex. read more

FUN course with amazing views! The front 9 has narrow fairways and several water hazards. It was especially difficult with the strong winds today. The back 9 has very steep hills and accuracy is key. With the huge drops in elevation, the back 9 was like an amusement park for golfers. The restrooms were very clean and the staff was friendly. We will be back! read more

This course is pretty fun. It definitely challenges you to hit certain shots and yardages. Blind tee shot, elevation change tee shots, tricky greens so make sure to hit some range balls and putt around before you play. Pretty nice practice facility as well. The club house is ok and the staff is pretty friendly. I played here a few times now and the course is always in pretty nice shape. Sometime the fairways can be a little muddy in spots but it's better then them being dry and dead I guess. Signature hole is #14 I think so make sure you choose the right club. This gets 2 starts mostly because of the service. We drove in from Orange County and wanted to take advantage of their twilight deal - $35 after 2:00 p.m. Well, we got there at 4:00 p.m. and were told that the carts had to be back in by 6:30 p.m. Huh? Who does that? It doesn't get dark here til 8:15 or 8:30. So we played 9 holes and I thought the course was fun. I liked the variety, although the course was not in the best shape as some others have mentioned. As we were pulling the cart in, the guy working there was seriously waiting for us, and locked the door as soon as we drove up. We felt as though the only reason we weren't allowed to play 18 was because he wanted to go home early. If their policy is that the carts have to be in by 6:30, they should put it on their website. read more

The course is an interesting layout with plenty of challenges. The greens are great. The bunkers are in terrible shape if they are bunkers at all - some have been turned into weed pits. The 14th hole is the biggest challenge because a player simply cannot see where the ball lands and there is long grass in places where a well stuck ball might land. read more

My wife and I absolutely love this course. It's our hidden gem. The pace of play is phenomenal very relaxing easy going. Love it.

We played the course today. This is a desert course with extreme elevation changes and long distances from green to tee, so don't expect to walk it. It was inexpensive to play and the staff were very welcoming. The clubhouse is basic and food is limited to hotdogs and chips. There is no drinking water on the course, except from a vending machine, so load up beforehand. The course itself has a lot of water on it, has large multi-level greens and undulating fairways. If you have never played it before, the free course guide is a must. We loved every hole. Each one was interesting and a good challenge. Condition-wise it's not in tip top shape, but the fairways are lush and the greens are true. I don't know what's up with the bunkers. It seems many were overgrown and looked abandoned. Many were marked as ground under repair. I never went in one, or in the water, but there's a world of hurt awaiting the wild hitter. The 14th hole has been washed out twice by flash floods and is closed. It looks like the flood also took out a couple of houses. The loss of the 14th doesn't mean it's a 17 hole course, because there's an extra par 3 tagged on at the end. What I didn't like is that the scorecard doesn't reflect the course change, so there's no slope rating etc and I can't record my round for handicap on my golf app. There was a backhoe on the 14th, so it looks like they're rebuilding again, but flash floods have a habit of happening in the same place, so it might not bode well for the future. It felt like we were the only people on the course although we did spot carts in the distance. We had time to hit balls before starting and then head to an empty tee. We stopped for a hotdog and a beer at the turn and nobody came through while we ate. All-in-all, it was a very enjoyable and memorable day's golf and I'd play the course again. read more

Just played Sunridge for the second time this past weekend. It might just be me, but both times included inclement weather. First trip back on Memorial day weekend of 201? was rainy and cold; that was the same time it was still snowing going into July 4th! This time, by the 10th hole, we were greeted with thunder and fork lightening. The abrupt down pour helped to cool off the temps but there was definitely fear looming of being struck by lightening. Besides the weather, the course is very challenging. Narrow fairways, elevated greens, sloping greens, and very elevated tee boxes! But all that just equals FUN FUN FUN!!! Challenging for sure. The employees are very cordial and professional. The course is usually not busy so there's no pressure. Great since my average is 128. Pathetic I know. We did allow a couple of people play through but they were very patient and very nice about our pace of play beforehand. And once completed, check out Red's Old 395 Diner for some good eats! read more

This course is beautiful and very challenging. We went to go play on a holiday, the 4th of July. We knew there was a chance that hours might vary due to the holiday but we were able to book the Time. When we got to the course and payed for 18 holes they told us that we had to be back in 2 hours because they were closing early. What they should have done was told us they were closing early and we would have only paid/played 9 holes. The workers would not even contemplate refunding or crediting the last 9 holes. We have played this course several times but this will be our last time. There are plenty of nicer and more friends courses around the Carson Valley. read more

I really enjoyed this course. A lot of reviews tear this place down, but for the cost, it is a great place to play. Lots of elevation changes and inspired holes. They even give you a course manual explaining each hole. It's free so ask for it if they don't offer it! It is true, there is no drinking water on the course, so bring your own. They'll even fill your water bottle for you in the pro shop on the turn. Employees were nice and helpful. Don't go here having resort-like expectations and you'll have a great time. One of the holes is closed due to flooding - it's unfortunate. But they do have a playoff hole to make it a full 18. They should have the course re-certified for handicap since Hole 14 has been closed for over a year. read more

I have to update this review to say I play here 1-2 times a month.. usually a great deal and I like the elevation changes.. the reason I'm dropping my score is I decided to bring my wife to ride along.. she has zero interest in golf but she wanted to read her book.. which she's done before at sunridge.. last time they charged a $10 rider fee (which I thought was a bit high since I pay $10 to play here sometimes) this time the guy running the desk said $30 for the rider! I was a bit shocked at the price jump.. especially since it was twice what I payed to actually play golf! he explained that the $30 was $15 for the rider and $15 for the cart.. I paid for a cart already in my greens fee.. he said it was for "half a cart".. not sure how that works since there was no one else on the course.. my only thought was they are nickel and dime-ing me because they need $$.. but whatever the case is- I don't think it's right to charge twice the amount for a rider than a player.. bad business read more

Very difficult course and a lot of the holes don't make sense... but I suppose they did what they could with the design considering a lot of it is on the side of a hill. Good part is it is pretty cheap to play here. Consider this a 'golfer's amusement park'. If you want to play courses that are a little more user friendly I would try elsewhere. Played Sunridge today and it was really fun. This course is in excellent shape. The fairways and greens are meticulously maintained. The greens are moderately fast. The course itself is incredibly challenging and the views of the Sierra and surrounding areas are second to none. This is the type of course you play to have fun and enjoy golf; it is NOT a course to play if you are looking to lower your handicap. Water on virtually every hole, and almost the length of every hole. Currently a great rate on Golf Now for 18 holes with cart. We are definitely playing here again before the snow flys! read more

The course was pretty dry and the greens were a little rough but a fun course to play. Played there the other day. WARNING.... STAY AWAY. This is absolutely the worse kept golf course I have ever played. There are huge brown spots everywhere, weeds in the fairway, bunkers with no sand, tees that are in worse shape than an empty field.... I'm not kidding. If this course was a sick animal it would be taken out and shot to spare the misery. They have no right to charge $60 for this place, if it was $25 - $30 (Prime Time) then I wouldn't complain. I would have rather payed more $$$ on a well kept course like Genoa Lakes or Dayton Valley. This place should be sold to someone who cares about golf then shut down for about a year while it is being renovated. Aside from the crappy condition I liked the layout though... the back nine is very different than what you would find elsewhere with huge elevation changes. The greens here can be very wild. Don't even consider this place until the conditions improve. read more

I have played this course once a year for the last 4 years on an annual golf buddies weekend in South Lake Tahoe, so i do not have extensive collection of data to rely on. However that being said, this is a fun course that is quite different from my usual SF bay area flat as Popeye's girlfriend muni courses. The front nine starts out like usual golf community course surrounded by houses, but then you hit the back nine and start climbing up into foothills. they have a down hill par 4, with three tiers of fairways! crazy. a par three across canyon to a green shaped like a doughnut with a patch of rough in the middle. they have another par 3 over 200 yards straight down hill all carry, stuck my 5 iron close! it;'s about $50 on weekends w/ cart. The clubhouse area is very small mobile trailer thing, but they have full bar and food, just not much atmosphere. So after you play, go back to the casinos to party. I recommend giving it a try. read more

My wife and I enjoy our frequent getaways from the Bay Area to the Reno / Tahoe playgrounds. As an avid recreational golfer, I've been impressed with the courses in the Carson Valley, an easy 30 minute drive south of Reno. I've played most of the "Divine Nine" courses in the Valley and added one more outing to my course log last weekend. - - Sunridge Golf Club. Except for a small tournament group going out later in the morning, the parking lot (and the fairways) had very few golfers present as I arrived - - - (how unusual for a sunny Saturday morning on Father's Day weekend). I was greeted by a friendly face in the pro-shop/café (John), and learned later in the day that he was the course owner, having purchased the property just a few years ago. John thanked me for choosing to play at Sunridge and offered to save me a few bucks on the greens fee by further discounting my 'Golf Now' reservation as a first-time visitor to his property. Thanks, John! Nice gesture and intro to your property. Four and a half hours later, I returned to the clubhouse with playing partners I had hooked-up with "on course" and we enjoyed a cool brewski while we reviewed our round and settled a wager the four of us had made on the Playoff hole. (Yes, there is actually a par-3 19th playoff hole (following regulation holes) that provides for gamesmanship or an opportunity to settle bets on who buys beverages in the clubhouse post-play. Have not seen that feature anywhere else. Great idea!! Although some other Yelp reviews appear highly critical of course conditions at Sunridge, and referring to the course layout as "quirky", I take issue with those negative comments. Agreed, the fairways, bunkers and greens are not "manicured, as we have experienced elsewhere at Carson Valley courses. And yes, I agree additional effort needs to be put into maintaining the property ; however, little of that detracted from enjoying a unique and challenging course that day. We can sense the pride the owner and his family have in operating Sunridge. As additional funding becomes available, and as the economy continues to rebound, we are confident that higher revenues will be invested in upgrading areas where deferred maintenance has been somewhat lacking. Fellow golfers, don't give up on Sunridge. It's a diamond in the rough - - and a fun outing. Sunridge is also no cream puff! Water comes into play on more than half the holes, one needs to play "target golf" on a few of the holes, and significant elevation changes, especially on the finishing 5 holes, added to the overall experience. Perhaps golfers who are critical of Sunridge based their comments on the fact they did not play well that day, may have lost a couple of sleeves of balls in the process, and how convenient it is to "blame the golf course" for a disappointing experience. Rubbish! I'm a mid-handicapper (21.5 index) ) and carded a 91 on this challenging course for which I had no prior course knowledge. I expect to return to Sunridge again this summer and better my original score and at the same time, visit with that entrepreneurial owner who works 7 days a week to provide an enjoyable golfing experience for his patrons. Give Sunridge a try next time you travel to the Carson Valley. The first nine holes are pretty average. The back 9 were possibly the funnest 9 I ever played; all off the hills and a beautiful backdrop to boot.
