Tucked away in Tahoe Donner, this is a great place to hit a bucket of balls. I bet the course is great to, but we just came for the driving range. I'm a real novice so please forever me if I get some of the lingo wrong. This was only my 3rd time to the driving range. Even though I'm new at this and only hit up the driving range on vacation I still find it fun. The ball dispenser is a little confusing. It says you can purchase balls with a credit card at the machine, but it didn't work for us or the other gentleman in front of us. If you go to the front desk of the club you can purchase a bucket if balls. If you are a member you get a hearty discount. For non members it's $12 for a small bucket and I believe $18 for the large bucket. The driving range is beautiful. You're surrounded by trees. The putting green has rubber tees built in. I saw some people step up on the green and bring their own tee. They have 2 levels to the range and this time and the last time we came we always found a spot next to each other. I look forward to returning and maybe I'll get my own bucket of balls instead of just sharing a large bucket. read more

The most beautiful course I've ever played. Each hole was very scenic and I literally had to take a step back in each tee box, take a deep breath, and appreciate all the nature around me in the quiet forest of this course. It was perfect and I want to go again. The whole place just finished a tournament a week ago so they greens, fairways, tee boxes, etc were in tip top shape. The sun was out and the weather perfect for some Sunday golf too. The fairways were well maintained and irons/woods were easy to use. The greens were a bit fast but great practice for me and couldn't ask for better. The food cart didn't have much but I always pack food anyways since im not if they use peanuts in their fried foods. It was great for the golf cart to have a cooler too. Nice touch! My favorite hole was the 18th as this one was all downhill and tempted me to drive a bomb down the middle of the fairway! Grabbed some souvenirs towards the end of the round and the proshop was awesome. Clean and wide variety of Tahoe Donner shirts, hats, etc. Got a ball, glove/marker, and shirt. The cashier was friendly and welcoming too. They even have club cleaning service near the golf cart returns, so nice! I will come back again this place was a proud cross off my bucket list! read more

Five stars for staff! Everything was on time and friendly. Our partner who drive all of us to the course in huge giant mountain vehicle lost his keys and we couldn't leave! The staff went above and beyond to look for them! We never found them but not for lack of staff involvement. The course was fun and not too many trees. I played well too so I'm sure that has to do with My opinion of this fabulous golf course. We will be back! read more

Horribly rude staff, they made no effort to even try to accommodate us in the slightest. They basically wanted us to pay for basic human needs. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a toll for the bathroom at some point. I will visit Tahoe for decades to come and maybe even play golf in the area, but never at this course again. Congratulations you chose to try and make an extra 40 bucks by squeezing us for all that you could, but will never see another foursome of mine play here again. And that is hundreds of dollars per round. Good job guys. read more

I had never played this course before-and was excited to see what awaited me! If you have ever played Poppy Hills or Spyglass, there are a number of holes on this course which I felt were very similar to various holes on both courses. As everyone else has stated, this course rewards hitting the ball straight. With the altitude, the par 5's are reachable for a single digit handicap player. I'd definitely play this course again. What was a total downer was after I had approached the various individuals who were working there prior to my round that I had a service dog, they were all cool about it. However, after my round, my buddy and I were having a putting contest on their practice putting greens, with my dog laying down on the grass next to the green. And this clueless head pro, Jeff Hwang, decided to tell me I couldn't have my service dog out there. Ummmm, Jeff, maybe you should have talked to the others there and see if they had approached me already about this? He was a total unprofessional head pro. He also violated the laws when it came to what he could and couldn't ask regarding a service dog. In spite of his boorish behavior, I still LOVED the course. read more

Extremely dissapointing. Golf course is in really rough shape as are the magins on the fairways. The greens were fuzzy and SLOOOOW. They are letting the grass grow long on the second cut along the fairways so deep that they swallow balls. In addition the back 9 is still closed which no one told me till after I paid. So you have to play the the front twice to get 18. The course was packed with people that were walking making one of the slowest 9 holes I have played all year. The course is a mountain course so if they are going to pack people in they shouls require a cart for all. Save your money and play elsewhere. read more

As a total value and experience, I love this place. The course is gorgeous and challenging, because it is a bit narrow and has several elevation changes. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were in great shape, and the staff was on point. The rates were very reasonable, and I envy the locals who get to play here often. When I say total value, I include the practice facilities, pro shop, bar, and restaurant. While small, the bar selection was good and the mood definitely friendly. We stayed for dinner on the patio and watched the sun go down while sipping a nice bottle of wine. And the meal was outstanding--some of the best food I've had in the Tahoe area. I only regret stopping for sandwiches on the way up, because it meant we couldn't eat here twice! read more

Took myself out for a solo golf afternoon, while up in Truckee. A splurge, a special occasion to enjoy the Tahoe Donner golf luxury, did the same thing a few weeks back at Coyote Moon. My take on Tahoe Donner is don't bother... Try Coyote Moon instead. The first turn off was the clippy guy in the golf shop. just plain rude. We had the opportunity to play this course on a sunday 8/5/18 through "Golf Moose". Even with the haze from the California fires, it didn't look or smell bad of smoke. This course is gorgeous, plush, challenging with the hills and slopes and fast putting greens, and I believe the 18th hole is on a slope and if you are unlucky to be on top of the left side, you'll run into an against the grain greens, which put the brakes on any putting. I read some bad reviews on the Staff, but we found Everyone to be very friendly and helpful. Mike the starter apologized to us after we played the front 9 for the slow play (he apparently has not experienced Lodi's Micke Grove slow play...lol ...but we still love MG, our home course.) Anyway we told Mike, it didn't feel that slow to us, we are first timers to the course and just enjoying experience! Mike was so happy we had such great attitude about it all and hoped we would come back again and play. We saw the cart girl twice, very nice young lady. They say the thinner air makes the ball go longer but it didn't seem that way to us. People have said the course is narrow but it didn't feel narrow (Elkhorn in Stockton is much narrower). Pay attention to the slopes because if you hit anywhere in that direction, it's going to run like crazy! You are totally surrounded by humungous pines throughout the course and lots of houses along the way, but the trees make a good barrier. There was also a kids lemonade & cookie stand before the 16th hole (entrepreneurs!) Loved playing this course, it had a lot going on and we enjoyed the challenges, we will definetly come back, and after hit the Lobster at Boomtown & casino (makes for a great weekend!) read more

The big winter was tough on this place. Staff is great but Mother Nature was brutal. There wasn't one green that wasn't destroyed by winter and the late thaw. It might recover by September. Unless you live here and can play for cheap, don't bother this summer, I'm sure next year will be better.. or, as a skier, hope it's another big winter! Cheers! read more

Out here playing the course now. The golf course itself is in great shape, nothing wrong with the course. The reason I am giving it a very low rating is because their employees are not very bright. We came up for a 2 day golf outing at the course. The first day, they lose our reservation and are barely able to get on the course to play. The second day, one of their employees driving around in a golf cart is the most clueless/rude individual I have come across. The employees are what makes this rating so low. I have never dealt with so many very slow/inattentive/and clueless employees at a golf course in my entire life. read more

I get to play this course about once a year when I am hosting a few guys in Tahoe. It is always a treat, beatify condition and amazing views. Great location, the course looks beautiful and the staff was wonderful. Steve was very forgiving of my tardiness and briefed us on all the courses features and bar specials. Tahoe donner is a fantastic overall experience and the best value in the entire Tahoe area. The staff is very helpful and goes out of their way to ensure a good time. The folks in the shop are always friendly, quick to help and making sure your day starts off feeling welcomed. The starters are great about telling you the ins and outs of the course. The golf course is not only beautiful with several gorgeous views and hole layouts, but it is kept in great shape even considering the elevation. The greens are the best in the area and the holes provide a fair challenge and enough variety to make it seem like each round is played differently than the last. I have lived in Truckee for years and Tahoe Donner has become my go-to course. The staff makes you feel like family and the course itself offers a great time and test for golfers of all levels. read more

Great beautiful course, would absolutely play again. The course itself is rather elementary. A lot of people hype this course to be extremely difficult, which most mountain courses are. People also seem to hype up the 18th hole which was also very easy. Beautiful hole don't get me wrong. I'd say the only downfall of this course, and it's not even the course or it's employees, it's the fact that they don't have Dijon mustard or bbq sauce at their snack bar. I looked at the menu and they have blue cheese dressing for one of their menu items. How are you going to have blue cheese dressing but not have bbq sauce or Dijon. Those are two staple condiments for any snack bar. If I'm going to pay 7 dollars for a dog or 10 dollars for a burger I would hope that Not only would they have the condiments I need, but the condiments I deserve. Next time I'll be sure to bring my own condiments. read more

One of the worst golf experiences I've had. The starter was very unprofessional. Told us we were holding up other players when in fact we had to wait on the two groups ahead of us. The Marshall came to apologize on about the 16th hole which was appreciated but starter never said a word, the damage had been done. Will not return. read more

Like most golf courses in Truckee, this is a pretty course. Tucked away in Tahoe Donner, I did not realize there was a course up here, it's really hidden. The course is very narrow though and the greens super fast. Make sure you are below the hole otherwise, bye bye. Most of the players here are members and they walk the course, which is crazy. Everyone from the pro shop, starter and members were really friendly. Of course Coyote Moon is the nicest course around, but for the green fees, this is not a bad deal. This course is pretty from an aesthetic stand point, but if you're a golfer and like smooth greens to putt on than this isn't the course for you. Our balls were literally getting airborne when we were putting. Chunky holes and brown patches everywhere. So ridiculous. Two days earlier we golfed at Coyote Moon which is a 1/2 mile down the road and their greens were spectacular so there isn't any excuse for some kind of environmental problem. This is straight up terrible course maintenance. On a positive note the fairways were fine. read more

Golf course was in decent shape, though wetter than expected (early summer after wet winter) but overall played well and was a fun experience. Service was abysmal, one of the worst experiences I've ever had a golf club. Employees/starter/marshalls oozed entitlement and disrespect, with an almost disdain for customers. With seemingly a small crowd, starter was in over his head, with disorganized and non-nonsensical groupings: despite being started on back nine, when we arrived to play the front, at least two new groups had been started/cut in, leading literally to a 20 minute wait at the turn. Bag drop was also a joke, with no one around when we arrived (9:30 break time?) and employees unprofessionally discussing and focused on their ice cream, rather than doing their job (and which of course, wasn't for paying customers) Go somewhere else. read more

We played last Saturday and the course is in tip top shape. It was our first time playing it after playing the other one on the same road Coyote Moon the day before. This place is just as nice, and 50 bucks cheaper. The layout is tough, but there are a lot of holes to pull driver on if that's what you want. Even from the silvers (blues most of th places you play) 3 wood wood get the job done. The layout, the scenery, and the service was great. We played in the AM and then decided to go again and they charged us a whopping 17 bucks for the cart rental to go around again. The greens were like pool tables though. Tough to get a good approach shot to stop and putting is nerve wracking. I would play here everyday if I could. read more

Excellent time here!! The day started off when I met the cart boys at the bag drop!! Spectacular service!! And then I walked into the Pro Shop and was greeted with smiles all the way around!!! The course was in spectacular shape! As a scratch golfer I was amazed about how was challenged by this course!! I did of corse finish under par though! Showed up to Tahoe-Donner G.C. on beautiful sunny day this past weekend with 12 golfers near noon, including a few seniors (75 - 80 yrs young). I was immediately disheartened the way the pro shop was so matter-of-fact and unapologetic about their policies of not giving our seniors Red flags for their carts and for not allowing carts on any of their fairways. Our reservations were made online through 3rd party booking agent, so we could not just walk away without penalty. This is a hilly mountain course with an abundance of vertical and horizontal inclines; as such, it is easier to walk the course than play 'cart path only' golf. I feel strongly Tahoe-Donner could have at least let our seniors play using the 90 degree rule or they should have pre-warned golfers about their course restrictions when selling their wares on-line. As a result, our seniors paid full fare and wound up playing only a few holes each. Moreover, their fairways are not in the best condition and their greens are terrible, unbelievably slow, especially below the hole where you are always putting against the grain. Next time we visit Truckee-Reno area, we'll by pass this course. read more

Had a great meal this noon while waiting for a 2:30 tee time. At 2:20 we were informed the morning shotgun tournament wouldn't finish until 2:45 pm and we would be the 6th group off. At 2:20 PM we were to be the 3rd group off?????? Looks like some members got special treatment. If we would have started after 3:30 PM we would not have finished before dark. At 2:45 it was too late to find another course. They could have told us when we arrived at 12:30 that this was the case and we would have had time to find another course. Starter was under obvious pressure but didn't need to be rude. We got our money back and left very disappointed in how they handle their guests. For this we drove 600 miles???? Let the members have it! Much better run operations in the Truckee area. read more

Wonderful course with friendly customer service. I bought a summer pass as a non member for the last 4 years and my golf game has really improved. I also took some lessons that have been extremely helpful. The course is well maintained and the narrow fairways have taught me to hit straight. I encourage others to give it a try read more

Can't beat the setting, and the narrow fairways are pretty challenging. Tee boxes and greens were in great shape. Eighteenth hole proved a bit different, with tee box so elevated, a periscope was set up to see the fairway. Not used to paying pricey green fees, which didn't include a cart. But, the surrounding forest and great layout was worth the money. read more
