We visited Magic Carpet Golf earlier this month during a family trip to Lake Tahoe and had a great time so I'm following up with a review! We had opted for the castle course. This is a family owned/ran business and they take very good care of the courses! It's immaculate truly, we noticed the gentlemen hand painting touch-up's to the course. The castle option was fun for the whole family, would opt for this one again. I recommend a hat/sunscreen if it's summer weather, there is some shade during the course from the trees though. There's a lot of fun elements to the course, like the spider that lowers to try to block your shot. After the course we deposited our golf balls in the Last Hole slot machine (see picture) I thought that was a fun way to end the course (chance to win a free game). We then played some pinball and the kiddos enjoyed spending quarters in the toy capsule machines. They have an ATM and also a cash changer if you need quarters. My friends and I had a great time here and was a great group activity. They limit holes to 6 guests at a time so we split into two groups but were all able to enjoy it together. We were advised that the Grizzly course was the hardest so we chose that. I was impressed by the various obstacles and was challenging enough to cater to adults. They had a skull that opened and closed its mouth, a raising platform, and others. read more

It was time to take my son on his first mini golf course experience and this rustic spot with incredible views of the Sierra's and Lake Tahoe was a perfect spot. $11/18 holes and $15 for 28 hole course. We opted for 28 holes and it was a fun course. Is it a bit old fashioned? Yep, but it was in really great shape. We had a great time. A cooler day in Tahoe, this proved to be a great way to pass an hour or so. Fun arcade inside with pinball games, the Simpsons game (IYKYK) and some more modern car games. No food, but a vending machine with snacks. Overall, 5 stars for some good old fashioned family fun. read more

So many mini golf courses lately are super worn down, and the greens show it. That is absolutely not the case at magic carpet! The greens were perfectly maintained, as well as all of the obstacles. No obvious wear and paint missing. With three courses to choose from, I wish the lady at the front desk would have been a little more helpful in telling us the difference, but she seemed pretty miserable in general. So we went with the castle course, as it was the longest. We absolutely made the right choice! The castle course had some really fun obstacles and trick holes, which always makes it more fun. A couple random holes in one, and some where I didn't do so hot made it even more fun. It wasn't super easy, but didn't leave us frustrated either. The price was great! And early summer on a weekday didn't have too many people, so we weren't rushed. We would for sure recommend magic carpet to anyone visiting. read more

There are 3 courses and we've done 2 of them. They're great! There's an arcade that has some fun pinball and other games. I saw online somewhere that they're only open until 6 pm nightly but they're open until 9! read more

The engineering and creativity on each of the holes is the best I've ever seen. We played the castle (24 hole) course. Definitely worth a visit! We'll be back with our next out of town guests. read more

Great place for the family and we came in a group of 13 with kids from 11 to 17 and adults. They have 3 courses on the premise. We did the Grizzly Falls and it had some good challenging holes (but do-able to get a hole in one). Kids all had a great time and we moved along well. Place is clean and organized. This is by far one of the BEST miniature golf places I've ever been to! Every time we come to North Shore, we stop by and visit Magic Carpet Golf. Everything is clean and neat and always working. Can't say enough good things about this place. Six stars for sure. Really amazing mini golf course right on the main drag in Carnelian Bay. Three separate courses - castle (29 holes) dinosaur (19 holes) and grizzly falls (19 holes). Each has some basic holes but also a cool assortment of characters and interesting ways to make you increase your score. Highlights include the big castle with a door that opens and closes, a big spiderweb with a spider that covers the hole intermittently, A school that opens and closes, the ubiquitous windmill, a dragon and a bunch of other stuff. Prices are reasonable and there's even a really cool arcade inside with retro video games and pinball machines if you have to wait or after you're done. Honestly, this must be the best course we've played possibly ever. This place is awesome. read more

From the street, this place looks like a 5 star establishment. Unfortunately, the staff and especially the owner, did not reflect that same hope. We were sadly mislead, regarding the course closing time. We called before heading over to play, and the lady on the phone said "the course closes at 10pm, we stop sending people out at 9pm" So we finished dinner and made it a point to be there before 9. We arrived around 8:40, only to find that the Castle course was "closed". The grizzly and dinosaur courses are in the back and not visible from the street. However, the one we saw from the street that intrigued us to come (The Castle Course) was closed. They clearly saw how big our party was (there were 9 of us) and said that it closed early because there were a few more holes to it. Not only was it overpriced, we had to choose between the 2 courses we didn't intend to play. Not even 2 holes into it, we were approached by the owner who was visibly frustrated with us and went on to tell us that there is a 6 people max per group, forcing us to split up and not play together. This was a bummer considering we all were excited to play together. We split up and played separately. After a few holes, we noticed a group of 11 people playing together on the castle course. The owner was a stickler to make sure our group of 9 didn't continue together but didn't seem to care about the group of 11 on the course that we weren't allowed to play. That was a bummer because though we were a group of 9, we were all family... the owner didn't seem to care about anyone or anything but his rules. The course however was in great condition. Many nice features, gadgets and themes. As far as customer service, the owner himself failed to put customers first. Even after we played, we thanked him for the round, only to be scoffed at, as if he was mad we were even there. Unfortunate experience... would've been very nice had we played the course we wanted and been treated fairly. read more

This place is owned and run by an angry, mean old man that has nothing better to do than yell at me and my fiancé and our tiny little 16 year old dog for being too close to his grass area. He even threatened to spray my fiancé and dog with the hose! It's 42 degrees outside! What a miserable existence to be so unhappy and cranky. Pitiful. I am all for supporting local businesses and their owners, but definitely not this one. He was such a rude jerk, really had a negative impact on our afternoon. If you're looking for an afternoon of outside fun this place is worth checking out. The place is in good condition as they clearly change the turf and paint the "attractions" regularly. They offer several course options with various number of holes. We played the 28-hole castle course and the kids loved it. The holes were fun and challenging but not so tough that little ones couldn't enjoy the day. I will definitely return the next time we are in the area. Staff was very accommodating! We had a group of 21 playing and we were able to stay 'on time'. Arcade and courses were spotless! One of the three courses was being updated, so it will be fun to return in the spring to see all of the improvements. Definitely recommend visiting! read more

Great choice of experiences, as Magic Caroet gives you two different options of 18 hole golf, and a longer course that has about 26 or so holes. (We didn't do the longer course, as we had a 5-month old baby with us). There were 5 in our party, not including the baby, and the range of experience with any sort of golf experience was from never having done it to a real golfer who goes on a weekly bases...it didn't matter though, because everyone (including the baby) had a wonderful time. We laughed at our ridiculous attempts and cheered at our hole in ones! The course we chose was Grizzly Flats. Each hole had a theme, and there was enough variety of hole design to keep our interest and keep the fun going. Even the least experienced player enjoyed the experience and had some great scores on some of the holes. The experiences golfer didn't get bored and feel that the holes were too simple, but rather, he discovered that most of the holes had challenges to the greens that he didn't expect, and therefore had a great time too! The outside of the business and the course areas were clean and very well maintained. Inside, the arcade areas were spotless, and they held many entertaining gaming options including old school pinball machines. We were on a family vacation, and our group included ages (other than the 5-month baby) from 30 to 47. Fun for everyone!!! All in all, we will definitely return to Magic Capet for another round of mini golf the next time we go to Carnelian Bay!!! Everyone gave this place two-thumbs up...the baby too! read more

I have been coming here since the 1970's, and I still go with my kids even now in their 20s! Still family owned and run since the 1940s (a grandson does a lot of the day to day now). The courses and landscaping are well kept up. Great to support a local business that takes pride in their product. read more

As a group we love mini golf as experienced a ton of big courses back east.... This is one of the best mini golf courses out west. Actually had obstacles and challenges. Three different level courses which is nice and three different themes. They also change some of the obstacles locations and change them out each year which is nice. One course is 28 holes and that was too long for the little one but we did it and had some fun. Photos with some of the obstacles are quite entertaining. Overall good but missing one star as the last hole is like a slot machine rather than an actual golf hole and the staff seemed a little put off we asked questions. read more

We were a large party of adults and kids who began playing mini golf here. At the third hole, as my daughter was picking up a golf ball, she was accidentally struck in the mouth with a golf club by another child in our party. Unfortunately, there was a lot of blood and a lot of crying:-( A wonderful woman who was playing golf with her family helped me stop the bleeding. I was really touched that the owner of Magic Carpet Golf not only refunded our money but also gave my daughter a stuffed toy to help her calm down and make her feel better. My Family and I came here to play mini golf and have a chill night. We came here around 6:45 pm. The place closes at 8 pm. We had a party of 10 but were broken up into two groups. One group of 6 and one group of 4. Was enjoying our time until a guy came over. We believe it was the owner maybe. White Caucasian older male. It was around 7:15 pm. Apparently he thought that we were just one big group since we did play right after one another. So he came over to tell us to split into two groups so that our game can go by faster since and I state "they don't want to stay after to wait for us to finish our game." I informed him that we were already split into two groups and that we'll leave when it closes But he ends up repeating the same phrase. So then my husband was like, did you just want us to skip holes then? Then the guy was like, yes. So In the end the guy wanted us to skip holes so that they will be able to close on time, which my family and I never intended to stay past 8 anyways. We have better things to do rather than stay at a small dingy mini golf place past 8 pm. Overall, we will not be coming here again. The guy was rude and condescending. We also felt targeted because our group was big and we were the only Minorities there. There was a group that was as big as us and moving as slow as us there too but they were Caucasian and based on my observation, never told the same thing. read more
