    Hole on castle course.
    Kimber R.

So many mini golf courses lately are super worn down, and the greens show it. That is absolutely not the case at magic carpet! The greens were perfectly maintained, as well as all of the obstacles. No obvious wear and paint missing. With three courses to choose from, I wish the lady at the front desk would have been a little more helpful in telling us the difference, but she seemed pretty miserable in general. So we went with the castle course, as it was the longest. We absolutely made the right choice! The castle course had some really fun obstacles and trick holes, which always makes it more fun. A couple random holes in one, and some where I didn't do so hot made it even more fun. It wasn't super easy, but didn't leave us frustrated either. The price was great! And early summer on a weekday didn't have too many people, so we weren't rushed. We would for sure recommend magic carpet to anyone visiting.

Great wildlife and features at each hole

The engineering and creativity on each of the holes is the best I've ever seen. We played the castle (24 hole) course. Definitely worth a visit! We'll be back with our next out of town guests.

This is by far one of the BEST miniature golf places I've ever been to! Every time we come to North Shore, we stop by and visit Magic Carpet Golf. Everything is clean and neat and always working. Our favorite is the dinosaur course. It's a great thing to do with your family and friends! Highly recommend Magic Carpet Golf!

    This place rocks. Get it?

Can't say enough good things about this place. Six stars for sure. Really amazing mini golf course right on the main drag in Carnelian Bay. Three separate courses - castle (29 holes) dinosaur (19 holes) and grizzly falls (19 holes). Each has some basic holes but also a cool assortment of characters and interesting ways to make you increase your score. Highlights include the big castle with a door that opens and closes, a big spiderweb with a spider that covers the hole intermittently, A school that opens and closes, the ubiquitous windmill, a dragon and a bunch of other stuff. Prices are reasonable and there's even a really cool arcade inside with retro video games and pinball machines if you have to wait or after you're done. Honestly, this must be the best course we've played possibly ever. This place is awesome.

We arrived a little before 12 pm and were greeted by an employee. For the golf course selection, there are 3 options to choose from (but one course was currently closed). We ended up choosing to do the castle course, which has 28 holes. I had cash in my purse so we paid for a smaller discount of $20 per person. If you pay credit card, it would have been $20.60 per person (I am assuming for the credit card fee?). We were given our clubs and 2 colored golf balls. And the employee who checked us in had told us that there is a hole where the mill is not working. The motor to power it is not working but that we can slowly pushing it towards where she is and it should work. The castle themed course is very cute and we really enjoyed seeing each hole, which some of them were really challenging. Some of the holes were also really well constructed and decorated, including the one with a ship and a giant goldfish. We golfed here for about an hour. And I am happy to say that I ended up with the smaller amount of strokes (just by a margin though). Although this course has 28 holes, you only golf with 27 holes. And then for the last one, you come back inside where you paid for your admission and put it in one of two machines. I placed my golf ball into what looks like a plinko style game (which reminds me of The Price Is Right show). But I don't know if I was supposed to try to win something or not or just to watch it make it's way down to one of three holes. And then my husband placed his ball in the other machine that looks like a slot machine. Overall, we had a great time and am glad we were able to make it out here.

Should read 4.5 stars but I'm rounding up!…read more We had the most amazing ski vacation at the Ritz Carlton. We spent 4 nights here and did not leave the property except to ski 3 whole days. Here's my notes: ***Seriously ski-in ski-out: The hotel is located on a ski run, so we literally traded our shoes for our boots at the mountain concierge and then grabbed our skis/poles from the concierge outside and started skiing down the mountain to our desired lift. No need to hop on a slow gondola or walk a distance to get to the snow. ***Some fun hotel perks: The hotel does a smores thing at 4:30 pm every day and we thought it was a very nice event. They gave everyone a plate with a graham cracker and piece of chocolate, then your choice of marshmallow (they had strawberry and regular). They also gave us a cup of hot chocolate with a little liquor if you were so inclined. They also had Kids events and we had our little guy paint a pinecone. He had a great time with the very nice guy running it and who knew painting a pinecone could be so fun? ***The restaurants: While we had high hopes for going out to Truckee to check out some cool restaurants, we were so tired from skiing at the end of each day, we never made it out. We loved the food at the Lobby Bar (I think it's called the Living Room) and their new taco restaurant which is called Montesa. Both are expensive (for example, get ready to pay $11-13 for a taco) but we really liked the food at both places. We also ate at Manzanita which is the high end restaurant and the service was amazing plus our little guy LOVED their kids buffet. We on the other hand thought the food was just okay and I don't think we would do this again. So why 4.5 stars and not 5 stars? ***Communication could be improved. We asked directions to the Smores event and a staff member told us it was at the Backyard restaurant and it's not there. In addition, because we pushed out our trip by a day due to the weather, we lost the room upgrade we had secured. It was not the Ritz Carton's fault that we lost this, but there were a couple places where we told the Ritz what was happening with us and they could have told us that they could not guarantee our upgrade. ***Service times at the Lobby Bar restaurant were extremely slow. There was one night where we waited for our food for at least an hour and a half. We will be back!

I called and asked for a reservation modification given the circumstances, and I was completely open to alternative solutions: a date modification, Marriott Bonvoy points to rebook on our own, a refund, or anything reasonable. We just wanted some flexibility. What followed was the usual runaround. We called the Ritz-Carlton directly, they told us they couldn't help because we booked through American Express. So we called Amex, whose concierge team was empathetic and professional. They reached out to the Ritz-Carlton on our behalf. After waiting 24 hours and following up, we were told that Ritz-Carlton management responded via email and declined to allow modifications to the reservation and still expect us at the property unless we pay a $750 cancellation fee. We presented a positive diagnosis of a contagious virus, were willing to accept any reasonable accommodation; a date change, points, anything, and the answer was no. This raises a serious concern beyond our personal frustration. If the Ritz-Carlton would rather a family show up carrying a contagious virus than accommodate a date change, what does that say about their commitment to the health and safety of their guests and staff? How many other sick guests have they pressured to check in rather than lose a night's revenue? What about employees who may face the same inflexibility when they're ill? For a brand that markets itself as the gold standard of hospitality, this experience seems like the opposite.

As far as the games go, they're all working but the place just feels tired a bit old and rundown. They don't offer a system where they're unlimited play cards include ticket games, but do not reward tickets so the selection of games available to the kids at the party was fairly limited as a result which bothered me, but of course didn't bother the kids who were just happy to continue swiping and playing. That said they do offer some games here that are not typically included in other arcades in town like the Minecraft game which spits out super cool cards and certainly captivated the kids for quite some time. The party room was large but parsley appointed in terms of decorations and really didn't offer much in terms of seeming or decor. There's truly a DIY situation and thankfully, we came with a couple of decorations to put up to make it feel more festive. One of the pizzas included in the party arrived squished in one corner and the supervisor was quick with the solution. Unfortunately, they couldn't remake the pizza which I'm not really sure why, but instead he offered additional cards that the kids could use to play the Midway games downstairs, which ended up being a huge hit. The birthday party deal is a great value to be honest. Works out to around 25 bucks a kid minimum of 10 and it includes pizza and unlimited soda plus a two hour arcade card and $15 to use on the midway or the games with redemption prizes. We ended up adding a $100 card to our party so that we could have the kids play some additional Midway games and that really did extend the fun quite a bit. Midway games are about to six dollars per play, so it does actually go a little ways. If you're staying at Circus Circus, the XP arcade is a fun stop over but if you're from the area, I personally wouldn't say this is the one to come to. That said if you wanna play the midway, you really can't do that anywhere else and it is super fun, especially rewarding when you win a prize. We'll certainly recommend this birthday party option to friends.
