This is a great municipal course. I played there in November 2025 and it was WELL maintained, a good pace of play, good equipment, nice people. I was worried based on some reviews and anecdotal stuff from friends. I was not only glad I played but altered my schedule so I could visit a second time. There were some areas under repair, but not to the extent it diminished my experience here. It was winter golf, after all. Tee Boxes: All were in good repair when I was there Fairways: There appeared to be mostly bermuda grass and all the fairways I actually hit from the tee boxes played fairly. Green: I found some of the greens to be challenging because they differed. Some were fast, some were slow. Hole placement was reasonable. No complaints. Bar: I can report that the staff ROCKED and the beer was delicious. Cart: Cart was clean and worked well. The cooler function was most excellent. Heh heh heh! Pro Shop: Great folks and they had a large selection of merch' that I succumbed to after my first round. Nice, affordable shirt to show off when I returned the next day. Driving range: What's to say? For $65 in greens feed and $70 for club rentals, I got: -No one at the bottom of the steps to help with a cart. Was a first timer at this course, I had no clue where to go. Not a single employee to be seen. Finally flagged someone down who asked where my key was. What key? Apparently after paying the prop was supposed to give me a key and I was supposed to just go pick out a cart. -No starter, so I just rolled up to the first hole and teed off at my tee time. -SLOOOOOOOOW pace. It took me over 5.5 hours to play 14 holes. At hole 12, I got tired of being stuck behind stacks of 3 and 4 somes and skipped past them until hole 15 and was still stuck behind a foursome, but at least they played quickly. The course was in great shape with great mix of forgiving and challenging holes. Seemed like there were a lot of par 3s though and one hole was under repair (10? 11?) so they turned it into kind of a janky par 3. Was just in town for a visit, but think i'll explore other courses instead next time I'm back. read more

The course is in pretty good shape. Although they have 6 par 3's, which really makes me wonder about the price? We were there on a Wednesday and were charged $65.00. When I asked the person why so high this time of year especially when hole 10 is played as a par 3, his response was "there are other courses you can play" if I was the owner and this is how you treat people, this employee wouldn't be working for me. This is not the first incident I have experienced at this course that will keep me & my golfer friends from playing there in the future. read more

I enjoy that the driving range can be on grass as well as artificial grass pad. I kind of miss the buried trucks.

This is one of my favorite courses in the area. It is always in great condition. The bar and restaurant is decorated with old gas pumps and antique memorabilia. They have a good menu for lunch at great prices. read more

I had a great time playing this course. From the beginning the driving range was pretty unique. There are 50s vintage cars sticking out of the ground as targets on the range. That made it fun plus I like older cars-so win win for me. The practice green gave a good feel of how the true greens were rolling that day. The condition of the tee boxes are usually the tell-tale sign of how the rest of the course will be. I was not disappointed! There were some forgiving fairways along with some more challenging. A couple holes were steep uphill settings, which really challenge your club selection. I birdied number 12 from 85 yards out (now being changed to #3) which always makes you realize why you play this game. Greens were beautiful with a little challenge here and there due to pin placement. The setting is a lush oasis of deep green grass and nicely mown fairways amidst the sandy desert background. The back nine takes you on a mountain tour with sweeping views of the course and desert below. Pace of play was monitored and kept by the course marshal. He was a very friendly guy and gave pointers for a few spots for newcomers. Overall I would give the course a 4.5, so I moved it up to 5 as halves are not options here. I will golf Silver Oak next time I visit Carson City. read more

Another huge thank you to Silver Oaks. This golf course offers its club house to the Carson High Culinary department every spring. Each spring the students sell tickets, prepare and serve the food for their fund raiser. I'm so happy that I discovered this event years ago. Just $50 for a few hours of great dishes prepared by our future chefs. Several of these kids have already earned scholarships to Johnson and Wales back east. The dinner is served with what seems like unlimited wine. Tonight we enjoyed ratatouille, salad, scalloped potatoes, green beans, asparagus, lamb chops, chicken sausage and salmon. You'd be hard pressed to guess that several high schoolers fixed all these delicious morsels. And don't forget dessert- cheesecake with sugared berries. I AM STUFFED! Available were great raffle prizes and silent auction items too. Seems we always come home with something. Bitter sweet this year- the students' teacher, Penny R and fellow Yelper, will be retiring in June after 15 years. Penny is so loved by the students and I know they will miss her dearly. Also their Chef Mentor Clint Jolly has won a few awards this spring. What a great guy these kids have helping them in the kitchen. Keep your eyes out next year and support Chef Jolly, the new instructor and the returning students when they host this dinner next year. After all these are our future chefs. read more

Went the first weekend the golf courses were open and what a beautiful day it was. The club house was pretty much closed but they were selling pre packaged items. The beverage cart was selling items also. I have not been to this golf course and it was so much fun and challenging. I will for sure go here again!!! Oh look at the driving range when you go the cars in the ground were pretty awesome. read more

Super fun super chill course, not super packed or highly regulated like all other courses, no tee time necessary if you show up they ll get you on. Staff is super friendly and cool. What Covid 19! A thin plastic divider is hung in the middle to separate you from the other rider. Really! The cart is dirty, I wiped everything down with my own wipes, it was BLACK with dirts! A huge thanks for the years of support to Silver Oaks Golf Course and Convention Center!!!! The support that is given not just to my program but to everyone in Carson City is so appreciated. All you need to do is walk into the banquet room and look at the walls....continuous support of Carson City!!! The golf course is always in good shape. Driving into Carson the green is evident along the edge of the mountain. Watching the 18th hole with every event that we have done here, the golfers are always laughing and obviously enjoyed the course. The banquet facility and bar is easily converted to fit the needs of the groups. With the recent remodel there is even more room to be able to be flexible. Being able to offer a buffet dinner and serve 150 people is done without a blink of an eye, along with an area for pictures and a silent auction. The food is brought in by "A Catered Affair" and the servers are hired from Carson High Culinary Arts program. A joint partnership to give the students work experience. A full bar with very entertaining bartenders!! Coach is not just pouring beer, but sharing his many stories and there is a small tv on to keep anyone up on the score of the hot game of the day!!! Silver Oak Golf Course hosted our Division Golf tournament. From contract negotiations through the final round, the staff were friendly and accommodating to our needs. Even though it was a smaller (24) person group, they scheduled our shotgun start on time and allowed everyone to finish at the same time. I will definitely return and highly highly recommend them for group outings. read more

The course itself is a moderately nice and playable golf course. It is affordable and never in terrible or really good condition. Houses along the course are too close and not what I would consider a beautiful course. The biggest challenge is the customer service is terrible. The bar attendant is a complete jerk and treats everyone under 70 yrs old that is not Caucasian horribly. Ask for a glass of ice or ice for the provided cooler and be prepared for a lecture and attitude. I know numerous golfers that hate going inside this place. Only in peak season do they have a golf cart food/drink attendant so we are all forced to deal with the worst bar tender in history. With some leadership could be a great low cost option in the Reno area but staffing and care needs work. read more

Great course in Carson City! The pro shop is filled with amazing memorabilia that sets it apart from any shop I've seen, great prices on awesome golf shirts and hats for the ladies and the fellows. Awesome course. They keep it in great condition, which makes it my favorite track in town. The staff is always more than friendly, and willing to help in any way that they can. Didn't actually play the course but, as is my custom, I try to visit the pro shops of local courses in the towns we are visiting. And, for this one, I'm glad I did. This is more like a nostalgia museum than a pro shop. Just the memorabilia makes a visit here worth the trip. Whether you play golf or not this would be a worthy stop if you enjoy collections of Elvis, Betty Boop and The Rat Pack. The walls and rooms are lined with memories. Also, the head pro was more than hospitable, he was fantastic. He treated my wife and I like guest in his home and had a genuine excitement for his facilities. Give yourself a treat and stop in. Hopefully, on my next visit I will be able to enjoy the course. If it's like the pro shop it will be great also. read more

we've been coming here for years, golf is great here, but one of the best experiences has always been the food and the great bar overlooking the sierras. What a huge disappointment when we went yesterday to find that they no longer cook sandwiches, they ship them cold from somewhere, and everything is downstairs. So no more beer after golf overlooking the sierras. Would have been 5 stars last year but no more.Golf is still good I'll say that again, but please bring back the upstairs bar and kitchen. read more

I always enjoy playing at Silver oaks Golf Course. The course is always in good shape, which is always nice. The course is challenging and yes when the wind comes threw you have to be on point. The only thing that I dont like is the pin flags. Half the time you cant see them. Hopefully they can change them out to brighter colors instead of yellow and black .. Other then that the price is reasonable and the staff is always nice. read more

like this place, great layout and fair greens. wind is definatly a factor here so you need to make those adjustments, elevation differances with nice undulation to the greens, nice and receptive greens too. staff is very friendly. i look forward to playing here it is a good challenge for any level of player. if your a hack thou your going to shoot a high score. please fix your ball marks....thanks gh read more

I am a 10 Handycap and this was a good course for me. Fairways have plenty of room and the grees are nice and big. I played in January and every thing was brown but it still was fun. The club house is filled with good stuff. Check out the old Thunderbird in the Bar area. Nice people and easy to say yes to this one. Plan on riding because you'd be crazy to walk. read more

I don't golf but the food in the restaurant is excellent, and the view is wonderful. The sweet potato fries were awesome!

This course has it all! Great greens, fantastic fairways, and terrific tee boxes. The layout is challenging but playable even for novices. The views throughout the course (and from the bar!) are spectacular. Great staff - very attentive and helpful. read more
