It's the best public golf course in the Lake Tahoe region. There's no condos, time shares, hotels or homes and no adjoining fairways, just pure golf. It's not easy to play, a number of uphill shots and the rough can be deep (they really should cut it back). You're bound to lose a few balls! read more

Coyote Moon was another checkmark crossed off the list of places to play! Amazing experience overall and I was very pleased with the course. The fairways were nice and wide, just don't hit it out of play. The greens were great and what you would expect. The tee boxes were maintained with a few divots on some which were random. Great scenery and wildlife which is always my favorite. The weather was a nice summer day in the 90s and just my type. Cart had a nice cooler for the drinks. I only wish it had GPS for the price paid for a Friday at about $175. Pro shop was very nice as well as the clubhouse with a nice cafe for food and drinks. A woman nearby warned us of a large Coyote hunting the small squirrels but we never saw it haha. I guess that's where this place gets its name. Overall loved it and would definitely come back. read more

First time playing this course! It's beautiful! But I may be a bit biased in that I LOVE the mountains and love playing golf in the mountains. Not because my ball goes further... because it normally does not. haha! Lots of variety to the course. The ladies tees / forward tees definitely help and made the course much more user friendly / approachable. And if you didn't hit a perfect tee shot, you were not penalized too badly. Even if I went slightly in the rough, I could still find my ball. I think overall, I only lost 2 balls on this course. That's really good for me since I usually lose about 4 balls on average on any course... even ones that I've played multiple times. Definitely will be back to play the next time we are in the area. read more

Played two rounds here this past weekend and let me say save your money. This used to be a great course and very well maintained but has quickly dropped off. Greens were horrible, tee boxes in rough shape, and level of maintenance is not up to the standards of other courses in the area. Even if the course was perfect the staff here is not well managed, golf bags were unloaded and placed in the sprinklers, restaurant didn't open in time, sprinklers kept running even after we tee'd off, no drink cart, etc. not the standard of Golf course it used to be and should not be acceptable at the rates your charging. Luckily we had a great group of 8 guys but nobody was excited to play a 2nd day in a row at a course in this bad of shape. Sad as the location and scenery make this spot ideal for vacation golf. read more

Beautiful golf course! Wonderful staff and landscape. It's a hard course but makes up for it with the pristine landscape. The wild life is everywhere up here. We saw deer, and coyotes. The staff said there are bears up here as well!! The Cuban sandwich and carnitas tots are a family favorite. read more

Our group of friends had a horrible experience with this golf course. We arrived at the course happy and ready to golf and have a great time. We were initially greeted by the pro shop with a threat of keeping a fast pace, or else we would be kicked off the course. It immediately changed from us being excited to play to being pissed off and ready to leave. It's extremely disappointing that the pro shop would treat paying customers,first responders, and military in such a rude and disrespectful manner. Fast forward to the course conditions where we paid full price to play on a course that was aerated, and the whole course was littered with dirt plugs that affected everyone of our shots... This was by far our worst experience at a golf course, and we will never consider or recommend this golf course. read more

I have been playing at this course since it opened. I will never play there again. Terrible shape add that to 5 plus hours of waiting on every hole with a 8:40 AM tee time. No Marshall and no beverage cart. Greens are a mess. They still charge full price. Don't waste your money here. read more

Played Friday and Saturday and rounds took 5 1/2 and 6 hours. Definitely have an issue with slow play and the Marshall's don't push people to move faster. Greens are pretty torn up (apparently because of late snow melt) but every other course we played (in the area) over the week/weekend had no issues so might be poor course management. Definitely not a great experience compared to past rounds. read more

First time playing here today. I had a little bit of anxiety because I'm not used to playing as such a high-quality course. And I got to admit leading off with a 500-yard par 5 as your first hole is a little bit intimidating. But I must have been dreaming or living in a fairytale cuz this crazy guy nailed a par on that first hole! Sad to start that well because it went downhill from there. Such a nice course, beautiful greens, well maintained and clean greens. But DANG, the greens were SUPER fast. Sometimes like putting on concrete. Couple holes were kind of shitty, literally putt the ball that stops 2 inches from the hole on a soft putt and that thing would roll backwards 10 feet. That aint cool. Couple tough holes, like the 243 yard par 4..............which sounds easy enough. But you had to lay up 180ish yards and then clear a ravine, dog leg left. I clipped a tree and that ended badly. Lol Very nice course, very nice people working there and I would totally play here again. Yay!!! read more

First of all I will say like many reviews before me, the course is very nice. At least the first 8 holes were. Mother Nature interfered with the remaining 10holes as Coyote Moon sounded their horn because of lightning and thunder. At this time we were told to vacate the course by the Marshall. We had no problem doing so. OUR problem was the way the staff (Ed especially) treated the many golfers, "RUDE"! We were advised because of the weather and Ed ordering everyone off the course. We then could either be refunded $50 of our green fees back or a $50 voucher. Ed decided it would only be the voucher end of subject. Does Ed in his customer service wisdom realize he ended everyone's $100 plus golf game without honoring the refunds they promised because of weather. Four months of the year is a short window for the course to get played and Coyote Moon has the attitude (Ed) of once they have your money we'll change the rules to our liking. Bottom line is the course is nice and very expensive. The staff should be fired and replaced with the friendly Tahoe locals we appreciate. This crew of Ed's was their second day of opening for the season and the third day they'd all be looking for a new job if they were my employees. read more

First of all.... The course, pro shop staff, grill staff, starter, etc were excellent.... It was such a shame that our round, along with the two groups ahead of us and the 3-4 groups behind us had our round ruined by a Marshal who simply refused numerous requests by numerous groups to make a group holding up 5-6 groups behind them to speed up/skip holes.... We caught up to the "traffic jam" on hole 8.... There were two groups waiting on the tee box.... They said there was a slow group ahead.... The slow group had 3 holes open ahead of them by the time we got to hole 10.... By hole 12 we had 3 groups waiting on the tee box behind us.... So 6 groups waiting on one..... the Marshal when asked would just make a comment about them being old and drive away..... this is complete BS for a course charging $160 green fees..... read more

Sick track!!! We lucked out with a beautiful day in Truckee. Starter was able to accommodate us as I surprised my buddies with a few other friends - they were able to split us up into two 3-somes which was amazing. Would love to play the course again during the a little bit warmer weather, but loved this course!!! read more

We had an amazing experience at this course. Gorgeous scenery, a challenging course but not discouraging, and lots of wildlife too. We saw coyote pups and a family of deer. The staff is top notch. A special shout out to Brian who kept the pace of play moving and even brought us extra water and a snack when we had a wait on the back nine. Our family loved the course, we finished in under 4 hours, and enjoyed the natural beauty! read more

The golf staff was incredibly rude and out of line. We are very respectful of Covid and the precautions however, there was professionalism showed to either myself or my husband. In addition the staff at the restaurant were too preoccupied to help us, on their cell phone. Course was beautiful but no need for such unprofessional behavior all the way around. read more

Beautiful course, well maintained, but zero customer service. From the other below avg reviews, it appears that everyone has had similar expedience- great course but terrible staff. I played the course twice this summer. The first round was in late June, and the green fees were appx $130. Not a bad deal considering it was summer and the course was in high demand. 4 weeks later I called the course as we were having a group event with 7 golfers and 1 rider, and was told the green fees were now $165- which was totally fine. When we arrived were we told the green fees were now $190, unless someone in our group was an NCGA member. I explained that I was quoted $165 over the phone, and there was no mention about if we were NCGA members. The ProShop attendant was immediately argumentative, and said that unless I could name who I spoke to- I could be pulling the quote rate from 'thin air'. So rather than starting our round upset from an argument- we paid our green fees and began our round. As it so happens, one of our players who check-in prior is an NCGA member. So after our round we returned to the ProShop to as for a credit of $25 x7. For simplicity, we gave the staff two options- either process 7 credits, or just credit one of our golfers the $175- and we would collect the credit from him individually afterwards. This suggestion wasn't acceptable, and we needed to present to the staff (who recognized each of us) our receipt. Unfortunately, only two golfers had their receipt. The other 5 golfers were told after paying by credit card we didn't need a receipt for the starter since the staff just talked to him, and he's aware we are coming over now. Again, rather than escalate the situation into an argument- we wrote it off as we wanted to enjoy our weekend without additional frustration. After returning from our trip, I wrote the GM to explain our experience- and encourage him to reach out with questions, feedback, etc. but never received an email response or phone call. Would I play the course again, probably- as I did enjoy the course but don't expect much from the staff and be sure to be crystal-clear when booking your tee time over the phone, and ask for an email confirmation as back-up. read more

Four stars for the view, the fresh air, the great restaurant service, and the lack of crowd on the 4th of July weekend! Was hoping for breakfast but got there 30 minutes late (11 AM). Lunch was nice. Had a BLTA, can't go wrong with bacon! Great coleslaw. Hamburgers looked tasty and the fries were golden and not burnt. Quesadilla was cheesy, cobb salad was cobby. It was typical golf course food, but was good. It was really nice to be able to visit with family. The club is open concept, large doors that are open for air. Not a soul was there when we got there. Service staff are friendly. We went into the golf shop and the guys in there were really friendly. Truckee was beautiful this past weekend! read more

Ed is the problem... Was looking forward to a round at this course on a family trip. Payed $100 for the round and played till hole 8 then we got called in because of lightning. We were told BEFORE we got called in that we had the choice of a 9 hole voucher or money back for 9 holes. You would think that's a fair and simple deal but once we went to the clubhouse to get our money back we were then told by Ed that they were only doing vouchers which means nothing to my group because we aren't up here often and wouldn't get the chance to play the course again. Came here for a bachelor party out of town and absolutely the worst experience. Ed, the manager, was a huge jerk. I spent over $200 for the round, only got through a few holes before rain and being called off by the course. Wouldn't give us cash back, who to contact for the owner about a refund, and left an entire clubhouse absolutely furious. We weren't the only ones. The whole clubhouse was furious. Never, ever should anyone come to this course. Wish I could give it a zero stars. read more

I played today with my son. The course was in great shape and we had a great time. But when we checked in the people behind the desk were rude, unfriendly and arrogant. After charging the green on my credit card $270.00 they did not been say thanks. It was like they were doing us a favor. I asked about the carts and they Ignored me. Because of this I am not sure I will be back. They need some major training in customer satisfaction. I would expect that at a local mini but not Coyote Moon. read more

A beautiful, majestic course with many challenges. Fairways and greens in fairly solid shape given the CA drought. But on my second visit, I wonder if it's worth the $155 I payed? Maybe not deal breakers for some, but these are some of my issues: 1. Driving nets instead of a range. Really? For $155 I expect an actual range. Worse, the condition of the hitting cage was a travesty: dirty, beat-up balls that drop into the dirt after they hit the net. The four beat up mats are so close together I had to duck when practicing next to a lefty. They have two Adirondack chairs that get in the way. Still, you have to lean your clubs against them because they don't provide any racks. 2. The practice/putting facility. While scenic, the holes were placed on the sides of heavy undulations and the greens are very fast. So if you hit a slightly errant ball or don't hole-out, you often have to chase your balls down a long hill. Keeping track of your balls as they roll into other golfers is no way of getting into a rhythm. 3. Food and beverages - fine for an average track, but very limited for an expensive course in terms of food and alcohol. Few craft beers, food is average, full but very limited bar. The dining room was nothing special and they could use an outdoor patio. When we finished our round, everyone opted to go somewhere else. The staff gets a thumbs-up, and the starter gave great tips for play. But personally, the Tahoe Donner golf course down the street is a much better value at almost half the price. It has plenty of challenges, beautiful grounds, a nice patio, and the food is excellent. read more

We originally had a group of 8 at 10:40 on Saturday June 27th, but had to reduce it to 4 based on the current virus issue. Some were concerned. The pro shop DID NOT work with us and charged us for all 8 players and we only had 4. We should have just left. We had played at The Ridge in Auburn on Thursday and they worked with us as we also had the same issue. We got to the first tee and the carts had no water or ice on a hot day. The greens had mold and many brown spots. The layout of the course is wonderful, mainly because the great views. With all of the many golf choices in the area, I will not be back to Coyote Moon any time soon. Too bad that customer service ruined our day read more

Zero Stars Staff is unprofessional Live 3 hours away from course; came up and was able to get in one hole before the course pulled us off for thunder/lighting. Provided voucher in lieu of refund that expired at end of season. Contacted GM for solutions/extension; received no response for over a week. Contacted Head Pro and was told "no option." 1) should have been reimbursed given distance 2) should have provided alternative options for use 3) Staff should have responded to inquiry in timely fashion. Do not recommend and will never return ... $125 lost with no consideration. read more

We were promised a Raincheck if we played 4 or less holes (twice), after thunder/lightning forced us to stop playing after 4 the GM only gave us half our $$ back? Disappointing as this is our home golf course. Sad that such a beautiful golf course is difficult to enjoy due to their consistently bad management. I was concerned after reading the reviews on here. We planned to play on our vacation to Lake Tahoe and I was concerned it could turn out bad based on the reviews. But let me say... 1) We had to cancel 1 of our guys due to wrenching his back paddle-boarding. I called the next morning after he told me he couldn't play, about 24 hours notice. The nice lady on the phone changed us to 3 players - no charge. 2) From the young man who greeted us, the Pro who rung us up, the starter, course manager, bartender, and lady who sold us some golf shirts everyone was super nice and helpful 3) I didn't time us to the minute, but we teed off approximately on time, rarely had to wait on the group in front and didn't have any pressure from behind. I think we finished in about 4 hours. 4) The golf course was in great shape! Two things hold me back from a 5 STAR rating. At this price point I would expect a better range than 4 practice mats and a net. Again, at this price I would also expect nicer carts with built-in GPS. We had a great time and would definitely play there again! read more

When I play there the first time, I love the breathtaking views. It reminds me of Switzerland! Just like playing in the mountains in Switzerland. The signature 13th tee is so beautiful and unique. Love the course. read more
