Two bad experiences here with a gas mower repair. Our newer push mower quit on us and my wife took it to Carson's while I was out of town. They told her it looked like a carburator problem. She never got a call back, so after a week she started calling them. They finally finished, she picked it up -- and nothing had changed. They charged her $60 for a blade sharpening (which she didn't request) and some other unnecessary work. The mower wouldn't start. When I got back I returned it to Carson's, let them know what I thought about their "repair", and picked it up a week later. This time they said they replaced the carburator. Got it home, it worked for about an hour, then quit again, with what appears to be the same problem, only now there was gas leaking out of the carburator. Two trips to haul in the mower, bad customer service, two failed repairs -- I'm through with Carson's. read more

Do I have to give a star here? They deserve none. I took my lawn mower in for a sharpening and tune up and was told they would have it ready the next Monday. Two and a half weeks later I go in and they can't find the mower. Apparently they didn't put the tag with my name and number on it. We look around for a while and find the mower, tag less, so they say they will get it done by noon. I come back and they tell me it will be just a few minutes so I sit in the car for half an hour and go back in to check and it's "almost done". Another half hour and they are finished so I pay and head out with my mower and the guy yells after me "I would appreciate it if you wouldn't come back". He needn't have worried about that. read more

Well, I don't know what's going on here, but I've been using Carson's for years and never had a bad experience. Now I'm starting to get a little worried. For one thing, my lawnmower uses muscles rather than gas. For another I am straightforward with what I want them to do and when I want it. If they can't do it--which happens sometimes--I do it myself. However, they do a better job than I can every time and if I am clear with what I want, they do it. Also, I'm a native New Yorker. I prefer direct answers--even when they are blunt--to promises up front and excuses later. read more

Excellent guys! Excellent prices. Top quality work. This is a professional sharpening shop. I am a contractor and use Carson's exclusively, as they have quick turnaround and top quality service. They come off a little dry at first, but they are quiet guys doing very tweaky work that requires incredible precision. If you need smiles and air conditioning, I'm sure you could just go buy a new blade at Home Depot. If you want no-nonsense, you'll be thrilled with Carson's. read more

Here's the word, it's in the title: they specialize in "saws". I've taken in a couple of saws to them, recently, that they wouldn't work on. One: they told me flat outright that they didn't work on that particular saw; Two: the other one they kept for a couple of days and then called me to say that they wouldn't fix it because it had no compression, the engine was shot and it would cost me more than the saw was worth. When I came in to get it, I was given a short lesson on "two-stroke engine compression", to show me what I could have looked for to begin with. They didn't charge me anything to tell me these things. In the past, they have always returned my saw(s), fixed, with any extra explanations of things that I might look out for while operating the saw, and other service that they suspected it might be due for, either now or in the foreseeable future. These folks are straight up. I hope you have the same experience with them that I have. read more

A couple of years ago, this business had been recommended by Eugene Power Tool as being an excellent place for sharpening push-mowers. I had just purchased a new mower at Sears and going into the 3rd season, I felt it wasn't cutting to its maximum potential. Had read several reviews about this place, mostly negative, and was apprehensive. After calling other sharpening services in Eugene, discovered that Carson's was recommended by them as being the best, since the referring shops didn't sharpen push-mowers. I took mine in on Friday and was informed it would take a week. Received the call the following Saturday that my mower was ready. Picked it up Monday, took it home and it performed like a champ, cutting the grass better than new. Unfortunate for many companies, only bad reviews are the ones that get posted. I will return in a few years, and recommend to anyone with a push-mower. read more

Called around to see who sharpened old school push reel mowers and got directed to Carson's, so I call them up and he says "$20 to sharpen" so I drive over with the mower and he says "$40 to sharpen". Went and got lapping compound and sharpened it myself for $3. Wish I had read the other reviews. read more
