I've only stayed here at the resort for 2-3 nights back 4 years ago, but I fish in this area regularly..... In 2009, a buddy and I came up to fish the East Carson and needed a place to stay. The Alpine Hotel in Markleeville only had rooms with one bed in each room, and that wasn't going to work on a guy's fishing trip! Todd, the manager of Carson River resort, heard our predicament regarding lodging, and walked over and introduced himself. He quoted us a reduced rate for a cabin, it was one of the 1940's kit cabins, and it suited us just fine. He also mentioned that he is directly involved with Alpine County's program of planting privately funded trophy sized trout in local waters. He gave us a great rundown on fishing Indian Creek Reservoir nearby, and also fishing suggestions for the East Carson right across the Highway. It was one of the best fishing trips ive ever had here, we caught plenty of Rainbows and Brown trout, including some pretty fair sized ones!In the four years after this, I've kept coming in to the resort to get current info, buy some ice and sodas, etc. I was just up here a few days ago, and I was at one of the holes on the river right when the privately stocked fish got dumped into the water! Wow, for two hours I fished with a lure with a barbless, single hook and caught and released 10 nice trout between 15-20" each.......I'm rather surprised by the few rather negative reviews received here? In the 4 years that I've regularly come in to get a few supplies and advice from Todd, he has always been very helpful and pleasant to deal with. His prices are in line with what other resorts charge for cabins and groceries, and his little campground is situated at a great location. Yeah, it's rustic but that fits this small town, sparsely populated county just fine.......some of us who have been coming to Alpine County for years remember the old Cutthroat Saloon, it was much more fun when it had the old decor on the ceiling. read more
