They have wonderful fresh fruit and at prices half of what it would cost at a big box grocery store. When in Hood River for a few days, I always stock up on limes, avocado, tomatillo and onion for home made guacamole and salsa to go with their chips. Yes, this is the same Juanita that makes those famous chips. The factory is also in Hood River. Walking down the pantry aisle always makes me happy! I cook a lot of Mexican food and they have a much better variety and quality of condiments, spices, chiles and pantry staples, and at better prices. And of course you have to check out the snacks! Whether you like the savory, spicy, crunchy snacks or the sweets that are very sweet and often include dulche de leche, you will find a plethora of choices! This is a great little Mexican market with friendly service, located right on 13th Street in Hood River. Glad I discovered this little gem.

The Distillery is right off of the loops main road and features a gravel parking lot with ample space. Per its name, the distillery is known for its ciders and its fruit distilled spirits. Our group opted for one flight of cider, and one flight of spirits. For the spirits, we got two fruit vodkas, a gin, and an apple brandy. All four had a nice fruit essence on the nose. The vodkas tasted as you would expect and the gin had a semi sweet, lightly herbaceous taste. My favorite was the apple brandy which was sweeter with a more discernible apple taste. I did not drink too much of the ciders, but the others at the table expressed that they did enjoy them. They were light and not overly sweet, which is a plus for me, as I feel many ciders are too sweet. There was only one gentleman working behind the bar who was kind and executed our orders within a few minutes.

Fast forward, we planned a stop at Loop De Loop after hiking Multnomah and Wahkeena Falls. It was one of the best surprises of the whole trip to Oregon. I expected Loop De Loop to be a small, modest vineyard and instead I discovered an absolutely stunning vineyard nestled in the picturesque hills of the Columbia Valley. I opted for the full tasting and I'm so glad I did. I really enjoyed the breadth and diversity of the wine offerings. And the wine is made organically!!! We actually enjoyed the wine and experience at Loop De Loop more than any vineyard we visited in Williamette Valley. We also tried the cheese plate and tinned fish, which were delicious. The venue has indoor and outdoor seating. I love the decor and art throughout the building. Service was really good. I dont recall the name of the young woman with red hair helping us out, but she was fantastic. This place gets pretty busy so I recommend reservations. Definitely check it out! The name, Idiot's Grace, made me chuckle as I passed this vineyard on my way up to Rowena Crest. I…read moreknew that after my hike, I'd have to check out this vineyard. Locaged in Mosier, I didn't realize that there were vineyards in and fruit orchards here, having always stopped in Hood River and Parkdale, never venturing further west. But just five miles past Hood River, the charming town of Mosier with its incredible vistas, trails, vineyards and orchards exists and can stand in its own. Smaller, quaint and even more charming and laid back than its much larger neighbor. The outdoor area here is beautiful with incredible river views and in the other direction, Mt. Hood. There is a covered area outdoors and seating on the lawn for those craving sun. All precautions were taken during Covid to ensure safety and an enjoyable experience. The wines are delicious! Rich, dark, bigger - reminding me of Zins. My preference is for the bigger and bolder reds so I was very happy with the wines I tasted. If you buy a bottle, the tasting fees are waived, and I was happy to buy a few to enjoy back home. The Cab Franc was my favorite and I also enjoyed the Syrah/Grenache blend. The staff happily educated me on the wines while asking me about my preferences to find a match. They shared the history of the surrounding area and the original inhabitants. Nearby Memaloose island was a burial sight for the Indian tribes that lived in this region, who did not bury the dead but created vaults on the island. This was the first time I tried Memaloose wines and I'm so glad I did! I'll definitely stop here again and next time plan on driving on into Washington to try the wines there. I realized that the beauty and good wines just starts in Hood River but there is so much more to this incredible area! Time to explore!
