If you drive a Tesla, there are 8 charging stations in the parking lot. For the rest of this, it's a basic Safeway. on a recent shopping trip, I found the prices to be on the high side, but way less than Rosauers up in the Heights. There aren't many grocery store options in HR so I typically stick up in Portland before heading out this way, but if I need to grab items I forgot, this is where I shop. If you have a club card, you have to log in and select the Hood River location before downloading digital coupons otherwise the discounts won't be applied. this happened to me yesterday and the woman working at the self checkout explained this. Clearly a flaw of the Safeway app, not the HR locations fault, but still an issue that needs to be resolved. read more

I stopped in here quite unexpectedly since I got the time wrong for a band I was seeing about a mile and a half away, and figured I'd get my daily walk in while I waited for the band. This store, much like many of the other locations I've visited, seemed very light on employees, which made for a long wait in the check-out line, despite the store being mostly empty at the time. One noteworthy item was the selection of "artisan" kombuchas. I purchased one to keep me hydrated on the walk back to the venue to see the band. read more

You can always count on Safeway to treat you wrong. I used to go to Safeway all the time, in particular the one on Barbur in PDX. Now, Safeway is a last resort, esp after they treated me poorly in Flagstaff. Last night I went to the one in Hood River, and, once again, they stunk it up. I bought some ground beef that was marked as being on sale. It didn't ring up at the sale price, though. I told the cashier it was on sale, and he said it wasn't. I told him I was sure. He said it wasn't. No remedy was offered. I also said the water was on sale, and he said it wasn't. So, I said, "Safeway sucks and is dishonest," and left. Then, in the parking lot I got curious and went back in. The ground beef had a sale price listed, see pic, but the sale had expired two days prior and nobody thought to remove the tag advertising the sale price. Or maybe they do that intentionally? And I looked at the water, turned out it was sitting in the wrong spot on the shelf, so the sales tag didn't apply to it. This is all consistent with how Safeway rolls. The main thing here is that when I told the cashier that the ground beef was a dollar off, he should have given me a dollar off. When I lived in Nashville, if that happened at a Kroger they gave you the item for free. Safeway will continue to be the store I go to when no other options exist. They DO NOT CARE about their customers. Now I'll look forward to hearing back from "Dawn" saying how sorry she is and blah blah blah . read more

The delivery app is so awful it's beyond frustrating. I have never received a complete and correct order. Last time, key ingredients were missing from a meal I was going to prepare. But this time takes the cake for gross incompetence. My eggs were broken; The order was filled an hour late, and the app would not let me see substitutions or even check in to let them know I was coming. So, I dialed the telephone number given in the app in order to enquire as to the status of my order. Nobody picked up. I called the help number and was told to reload the app. Still a pair of sevens (no dice). The delivery person (Christian?) was helpful, went to talk with his manager, and tried to straighten things out. But it was beyond his purview. Rosauers is more expensive, but at least they get things more right than wrong. read more

Just got two filet mignon primes 36.00. They looked good when the guy picked them up. He kinda did a funny hand thing then quickly wrapped them up. When I got home I had two expensive pieces of junk meat. After I trim them there was not much left. I work hard but can't normal afford expensive cuts of meat but my anniversary and I wanted to cook up a nice dinner. Ol well. Thanks a lot meat department. I want you to picture spending 4.50 a pound on three pieces of chicken breast. You take it home and as you are cutting it, it feels like rubber. You cook it and sure enough you are eating rubber. This is the disgusting junk I purchased from this store which ruined the homemade meal I planned on the first and second night of my vacation. There are no grocery stores (actually there is one other, go there) between hood river and government camp to get your groceries for your trip. I stopped here and lost 13 dollars plus dollars on what should have been exceptional chicken parm. I will never get that money, time, or experience back. But you can, I encourage you to shop elsewhere so they can loose business and never pick up that dog meat they try to sell labeled as "chicken". read more

As I was checking out and loading my food for purchase onto a conveyor belt, store manager Juan came up right next to me and brushed against me, violating basic social distancing, and worse, decided to remove my food from the belt with his BARE HANDS. He scolded me for "missing the sign" that is, at best, barely legible and torn, and certainly not noticeable unless you are under four feet tall. See attached picture. What's worse is that the sanitary wipes were out at the front of the store when I arrived, and still not stocked when I left an hour later. So Juan certainly had not sanitized immediately prior to touching my food. I'm all for the upgraded sanitary policy, but how about post a sign that at adult height? And cover up other signs that won't imminently jeopardize your health? Juan displayed a blatant disregard for social distancing, and worse, touched my food with his bare hands. Termination would be too harsh, certainly, but he should at least be trained with basic sanitation, not to mention courtesy, when he comes within one foot of me personally and touches my food. Went to Safeway today and it is the first time I was treated like crap. I went to checkout and there were a number of checkouts open. There was nothing telling you to form one line andcrazy. a checker is open the next person can go. So I saw a checker finishing up someone. So I went to that checker and I was informed in no uncertain terms that you formed one line and waited for a checker to open. It isn't like I hadn't been there in a long time I was there last week and this was not the way you were treated. It is sad that Safeway is going too crap. read more

I had an employee make out with his girlfriend behind the counter while I put my groceries on the conveyer belt and then when they were done and he started ringing me up he was bad mouthing his supervisor and then proceeded to be totally rude and inappropriate with me. It was a horrible experience and I love Safeway and I am super close to a lot of people that work there but we wont go back as long as he still works there. I've been shopping from here for years. Being local and growing up in hood river. Always such friendly cashiers and workers. In the last month each time I've went has seriously put me off. I have felt sexually harassed numerous occasions. One of the bosses, Juan will literally follow me around the store making small talk and flirting. No big deal! He talks how he is one of the managers and how everyone loves him(which is how I know he is a boss). In the last month I have never felt more uncomfortable at any store locally. I told him he was super sweet but I'm not interested. Boom. That's where it all went sideways. Suddenly, he was not that friendly guy that he pretended to be. I'm fluent in Spanish so I can definitely hear what he has to say about me to his young coworkers when I walk in. I have heard him speak of my "ass", my breasts, and saying I have DSL lips... I also have heard him tell other cashiers to watch me because he thinks I'm stealing. I have been shopping here for over 15 years! I'm well known through our community and have never ever been talked to that way or in that manner. Maybe instead of "watching me", his big boss will start watching him. He will try to score brownie points with customers he's hitting on by giving them free things for their children which I witnessed last week right after he spoke in Spanish to keep an eye on me, yet this fool is letting girls he thinks are cute walk out without paying. read more

Yes. People are right when it comes to long lines. But this is what drove me to write this review. The grumpy checkout guy blamed me and kept asking me, the consumer, how much the bag of lemons were as the tag fell off. I don't remember how much each of the items in my cart was!!! I asked him if there was a lookup and he said no since they are in a bag. So he made my son go and check the price while the people behind me in line became grumpy. I'm pretty impressed with this Safeway. I've never been a fan of Safeway, but since it's the only store that has decent prices on their Organic foods in the Gorge, I'm a fan now. It's a very clean store, looks newer and has a nice Organic produce section. Staff is Friendly and helpful. They usually have great sales going on through out the store. The organics are found through out the store in different sections. You may have to do a little extra searching for them, but it's worth it. Download the Safeway app. and you get even more discounts. I usually end up saving between $25.00-$35 each time I go shopping. Much better than Rosauer's prices! read more

Consistently bad unprofessional customer service. Many times when I go through the checkout line the clerk doesn't acknowledge my presence. Gossiping with their coworkers seems to take priority over customers with the clerks. Shopping at this Safeway is definitely not a pleasant experience. I would rather pay more and shop elsewhere where the employees conduct them in a professional manner than endure the bad treatment by the workers here. read more

This rate is solely based off the deli department!! I went to this Safeway to order Chinese like I have before for a quick snack and it was the worst decision I made. I order the general chicken, sesame chicken and fried rice and noodles. Honestly the grossest thing I ever had, the chicken was hard and tasted burnt and as though it had been sitting for a while. The food made me throw up and honestly I threw it away. It was a waste of money and I would never go back there to get anything. Super disappointed. read more

Hm, I seem to have more negative occurrences here than any other store...today (3/3/17), I went to customer service to cash in my bottle return receipt and the lady comes out of the office and after I tell her I just need to cash this in, she goes, "You know you can go anywhere else in the store to do that right?" And I look around and I'm like, "there's long lines everywhere so..." and she goes and gives the manager that just came by a snarky look like I just said the dumbest thing in the world. Funny, a few months ago I went to self service real quick to see if they'd cash in my thing and they told me to go to customer service, not to mention I've done it every where else I go. Am I supposed to wait in a long line just to get $3.50 from the cashier or go to customer service where there is no one in line and it's their job? It's not like I'm a bum with a shopping cart full of bottles trying to get their meth fix. So which is it? Is it customer service's job or am I supposed to get a snarky rude comment wherever I try to cash it? Linda the cashier made this mornings grocery trip an absolutely unpleasant one to say the least. I'm Waiting by the customer service center for assistance with tobacco, and I hear a rude exclamation from behind me" they're closed your gonna be waiting 45 minutes" with a little snicker following the comment. I rely , can anyone assist with tobacco right now ? Once again, in a very rude tone , she tells me that one of the cashiers who has they key can do so. So I ask which cashier has the key. She didn't seem to like this question , and tried to make me feel stupid for even asking. While waiting in her line , a good 8 feet behind the gentlemen in front of me , I once again get a rude exclamation to move back. Now I'd probably chalk it up to her having a bad day, if I didn't see how gratuitously she treated the elder gentleman in front of me, and the elder couple behind me in line. I'm convinced it is my age , and appearance which warranted this unfriendly behavior. After making a very rude big deal of me waiting in line too close for her standards , she asks the person behind me to step closer and start unloading their groceries while I'm still paying! I honestly don't care really about another guest stepping towards me , but after her attitude towards me and my waiting distances this seemed strange. I thanked her, once again a rude blank stare in return from Linda. The next person in line she greeted with a hearty hello, so she wasn't just having a bad morning she specifically treated me inferior to other customers. read more

This is primarily about the Bakery. It is a part of a big chain with all the arrogance that implies. Sigh. Big Brother knows I want a 12-pack of cookies, I couldn't possibly want only one or two. I couldn't possibly only want one ciabatta rather than six in a bag. Never mind I'm one person and like FRESH baked goods. Fortunately, if I ask at the counter, I sometimes get a worker who is happy to accommodate my bizarre request to buy the quantity of food I can eat before it spoils. Too often, I am told to buy mass quantities. Sigh. Time to visit the smaller chain up in the Heights. I was happy to be at this Safeway, especially after spending almost $100 on only 3/4 of the groceries we needed. We came here to get what we couldn't find at Rosauer's. I loved the familiarity of this Safeway. It's set up like all the other Safeways, which is very helpful. Makes it so you know exactly where to find everything. Again, like most other things in Hood River, it is very pricey. We needed Spiracha Sauce. In California it's no more than $2. Here they were asking $5.79/bottle. I couldn't believe it. Aside from that, at least they carried it, which is more than I can say for Rosauer's. They also carried Montreal Steak Seasoning, and it was only $2. Rosauer's had the barest spice area I've ever seen. While I was here, I also made some other quick comparisons to prices between Safeway and Rosauer's. Across the board, everything was cheaper at Safeway. We should have left our cart behind at Rosauer's and trusted in Safeway. Next time we know. read more

One of the nicer remodeled locations, clean and spacious. The store had everything I was looking for and very helpful customer service.

All in all Hood River Safeway is a pretty descent store. The employees most of the time are friendly. I want to tell the management to pay closer attention to carts. The outside cart racks were full and needed attention. I mentioned it to an employee and just got a yeah response. At the end of my shopping still no carts returned. I retrieved my own small cart. I don't mind, but many times I visit this store I find the same problem. Please make it easy for those who are abled differently. Small carts are in high demand and make it nice for those who have trouble maneuvering the large carts. read more

While visiting my family in Hood River, we always stop by this Safeway to get groceries and alcohol. Today was no different except for the fact that my sister in law and our good friend forgot their wallets. We knew if we all went through the line without them having our IDs they wouldn't sell us beer so they left to go to the car. They are adults well above legal drinking age. The guy checked the IDs of those of us who remained and then asked to see our friend's IDs who had left. We said fair, that was our bad. They had forgotten them and we didn't realize and tried to prevent another stop at another store. The checkout guy then escalated his tone. He started calling my brother in law "bro" and being very rude like we were trying to pull a stunt on him. We weren't, we explained, we legitimately didn't know they didn't have them. We understand he was following the law and he thought we were being shady. Instead of telling us politely to come back with all IDs present he proceeded to tell us that he knew what we were doing and that "he was a bouncer downtown, you can't fool me." To the employee, sometimes people just make simple mistakes. In the customer service industry, don't jump to conclusions. You made us feel like criminals even though we were taking the alcohol home to all above drinking age adults. You were doing your job and that's fine but it's always better to be nice to people. You should probably find another profession. read more

Some days the service is good, some days you get those cranky employees. When I enter the store, after passing the first sliding doors, you're hit with this foul odor. Smells like a million wet dogs, and it's not just one exit, it's both. The carpets need to be cleaned on a regular basis. read more
