This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. We would drive 45 minutes just to eat there. After today we will no longer go there! Let me explain. We sit down at a booth, the restaurant isn't busy (it's only 430). Here comes our waitress. No hello, no conversation just what do you want to drink, are you ready to order. No problem maybe she isn't in the mood. We order 2 ice teas, two chicken fried steaks and my husband orders an extra cup of gravy. It took 20 min for her to bring the drinks. (By the way we are her only table at this point) she sets the glasses down and walks away, we call her back over for straws. She has to go get them. We wait and wait, about 7 people in a group walk in and are seated in our area. She goes over and spends 10 min just getting their drink order and chatting them up. I get it - we are only two people who would give a tip - that's 7 so yea better tip. So after she is done walks by our table and tosses the straws on the table and walks away. So another 5 min here comes our food. Now Carriage is known for their homemade food. Oh man it's so good! I don't know what happened but now it's all tiny cuts that taste prefrozen. I think kfc's chicken is better! My husband ordered an extra cup of gravy, it didn't come so we asked the person who brought us our meal about it. She said she would go get it. 20 min later we are done with our tiny prefrozen cut of meat and ready to go. No extra gravy, no drink refills. The waitress finally shows up and asks if we want dessert, I said no and asked for the check - which she has to go get. 20 min later no waitress and no check! I'm tired of waiting and decide we will just go to the counter and pay. My husband wanted to buy a pie. We are the only ones in line, I ask the girl at the register what kind of pies do they have in the case to which she replied "they are marked" okay so apparently rudeness is now a prerequisite to the job?? I ask again and what kind of pies do you have? The girl says "I don't know you have to go look". I'm thinking wow this place used to be so nice. We paid and left. I will never go back. If I wanted to be ignored and treated rudely I would just go to a fast food restaurant. If I wanted prefrozen meat then I'll just again save money and go fast food. This place used to be so good, nice, friendly staff, amazing food! I would recommend it to everyone! And now I will warn everyone to just eat fast food and get the same amount of food and friendliness. read more

This place is your typical diner with typical diner food. If you're expecting an Amish experience with butter being churned right next to your table, then you're going to be very disappointed. The chop steak I ordered was cooked to my liking and was very good. The baked beans were good, although on the thick side. The mashed potatoes were very good. The fried mushrooms, although frozen, were of a very good quality. Same goes for the onion rings. I thought the bread was way too dense, so I only ate a small piece. I didn't try the pie, but I did buy a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was disappointing. It had the same density as the bread. And the icing tasted like thick sugar water. The icing was too sweet, and it had no subtle flavors like vanilla or honey. I've had some amazing cinnamon rolls from the Farmers Market in downtown Wichita. The ones from Carriage Crossing don't even come close. read more

In from out of state to visit family and we made the trek to the area for some browsing and lunch. The Carriage Restaurant was simply wonderful with its sweet little shop attached to the wonderful eatery. We had a party of six and the orders varied from the Roasted Turkey and Bacon Salad (just yum!), Chicken Fried Chicken w/loaded baked potato and the Fried Chicken and green beans. My brother ordered the sliced beef with gravy and fries which was moist, fork tender and very flavorful. My daughter however ordered a ham sandwich which was a literal ham steak on fresh baked bread. It was divine. The ranch dressing was amazing ... creamy and just about perfect. As was the mini loaves of bread provided prior to our meal with a delicious honey cinnamon butter! Prices were very reasonable and the service was very prompt and friendly. I spent more in the attached shop then on our food bill but it was all worth it! Take the time to take a look around. Very disappointing when we traveled from Wichita with out of town family to have dinner there and send cinnamon rolls home with the family members. When we arrived at the restaurant at 530PM on Saturday evening there was a case full of the rolls by the cash register. As soon as we were seated and our waitress contacted us we requested three of the rolls boxed to go when we got done with our meal. She advised she would have the rolls waiting for us behind the counter. No further discussion was had with the waitress concerning the rolls until we got out ticket and asked if we could add another roll to the order. At that point she told us there was no rolls available. I reminded her about the hold request we made for the three rolls when we arrived and she basically told us she had "forgot to put the order in" and there was no more available. We requested to speak with a manager and a male came to the table and basically admitted she had forgotten the rolls but that there was nothing he could do because he could not "whip them up then". As I noted on my ticket when I paid I guess my option is to keep my business in Wichita with other restaurants that make wonderful rolls and discourage others from going to Yoder if there is really nothing else "he could do" about the forgetfulness of the staff. read more

We went last night and there was a 30 minute wait at 5:25 pm so we knew it must be good. There is an Amish gift shop (with aprons, pictures, puzzles, books, preserves-including fig) so the time went fast. We ate family style and had fabulous chicken, tender roast beef, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans and for dessert pies (raisin crème, apricot and chocolate peanut butter). Food used to be good, not so much anymore. Service is extremely slow, waited almost an hour to be served. Ordered hot hamburger sandwich (it's like open faced roast beef sandwich only with hamburger patties) The hamburger patties were over-cooked and tough, mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes. They didn't have the variety of pies that they used to have either. read more

Everything about this place was awesome! I had the fried chicken, mashed potatoes with white gravy (SO GOOD!) and green beans. My mom had the chicken fried steak with the mashed potatoes and glazed carrots. We both loved our food! The portions were just right. The homemade bread you get at the table with honey butter was great as well. If that wasn't enough, we decided check out the pie we heard so much about. The waitress rattled about 20 delicious flavors off and we decided on the chocolate peanut butter cream pie...she said she would go back and find the biggest piece she could find! It was massive. It was soooooo good!! The place was packed, but we got a table pretty fast as the restaraunt has a lot of seating. A friendly, attentive group that we will definitely be returning too!! A must if you are driving by and even a short trip from Wichita! read more

perfect stop on the way to and from the state fair. food is excellent and the wait staff are friendly. kids menu isnt much but my one year old can easily enjoy it. pies are waaay better than i could ever make and the gift shop always has new stuff to look at. read more

I've been to Carriage Crossing several times for breakfast and lunch, but not for dinner. My wife and I decided to take her parents there for dinner the other day, my wife praised their chicken fried steak. When we got there, it appeared to be the same place, except I noticed that the typical Amish ladies were not there. I ordered the chicken fried steak, and when I got it, I thought to my self, this doesn't look homemade, it looked like one I could buy in the freezer section of a grocery story, it tasted like it too! I mentioned it to my wife, she said it wasn't the same as she had before. I ordered the peanut butter cream pie for desert, and I could barely taste peanut butter. A couple of days later, we mentioned this to some friends, and they told us that Carriage Crossing sold, and that was probably the reason it was different. If these new owners plan on changing what it once was, I don't expect they will stay in business much longer! read more

We called ahead for reservations and were seated immediately. Our waitress was extremely busy and it was awhile before she got to us with apologies. We ordered the all you can eat meals for our group of 11 and especially specified that most of us liked drumsticks and dark meat. We got plenty of white meat and when we asked for more drumsticks they were out. Is that a way to get us to eat more of the other items and not so much chicken? It would seem to me that for $12.99 we should have had plenty of chicken, but getting it was like pulling hen's teeth. When it came to pie for dessert only three got what they wanted, the rest were sold out. Upon ordering the second time, she came back and some of them were gone. Surely they know by now how many pies to make. I was disappointed with the pie. It was cold and did not seem like it was made today. Some ordered coffee and what they got was concentrated tea, which was gladly corrected. Then we were charged $9.00 too much on our ticket which was corrected. Then when it came to tipping we were in a quandary just how much to tip after all the negative happenings. Like someone else said it seemed they were capitalizing on the Amish name, but I did not see anything that reminded me of the Amish except some quilted hangings. I think they need more help and be a bit more generous. read more
