I would not have thought that I would be leaving a negative review for this place. But. I had their hot roast beef sandwich for the fourth time as I remember. It is different than it used to be. Now it has two pieces of bread with meat in between and gravy on top of all that. Hard to eat without making a mess. The bread, the potatoes and the gravy we're all excellent. The Meat had been sliced and left in open air until it was dried out somewhat. The meat also had a lot of fat, big pieces of fat. The flavor was OK though. The omelette was decent but a little burnt on the edges--nothing major, but noticeable. The home fries , though? They totally saved the day--crispy and buttery..well-seasoned, and just what I needed. There is always a super friendly and caring environment when we come to Carriage Crossing. We came around 5pm and it seemed really busy outside but when we went inside we were seated immediately. It was a slightly longer wait for our food but not too long. The bacon cheeseburger was good but not amazing, the buns and topping were very good. The mashed potatoes and cream gravy were honestly the highlight for me. They were warm, smooth and flavorful. They did add an order of fries to the check that we didn't order but they were not bad. The shop they have is very fun to look around at and the cinnamon rolls here are VERY good. Definitely a highlight of this place. The prices for food are all very reasonable and fair, definitely on the lower end for eating out. Excellent choice for our lunch. I had the hot turkey sandwich with gravy on the Amish homemade bread. I only regretted I could not eat all the bread. Before the meal we had a loaf of the bread with cinnamon butter. Oh my , should have stopped there. Another in our party had had the hot beef sandwich and she said the beef was very tender. The all-you-can-eat family-style meal was highly recommended, so we got that. It's individual dinner salads, bread, fried chicken, roast beef, mashed potatoes and white gravy, green beans and corn, with a slice of pie at the end. It's a lot of food, and it's all served in bowls to pass around the table. The thing is, it's $16.99 per person and everyone at the table has to get it, otherwise, you can't get it. All of the good was good, especially the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. But what really stood out was the pie. You can choose from over a dozen different flavors of pie -- everything from peach and pecan to sour cream raisin and chocolate peanut butter. I chose a slice of blackberry, because I love a double crust fruit pie. The crust was flaky and buttery, with just enough fruit filling. My table didn't need refills on anything except the fried chicken -- that seemed to go fast. The servings that they put in the serving dishes were huge and more than enough. Someone at my table was freaking out over the salad dressing that they serve at Carriage Crossing. It's called Dorothy Lynch, and apparently it has a cult following. It's not particular to this restaurant, but this restaurant serves it, so you can find it here. Honestly, it tastes like French dressing to me, but people love it and it's one of the salad dressings they offer with your salad! Carriage Crossing is in the heart of Amish country in Yoder, and some (most?) of the people who work here are Amish. It's kind of neat to see Amish people in the wild, dressed in traditional Amish clothes. So if you're into that sort of thing, you will find that here. read more

Probably the best cherry pie I've ever had in my life! The perfect crust and sweetness. Could have done without biting down on a couple cherry pots but still worth it!! I went here for the first time this past weekend and I ordered the chicken fried steak with green beans. The chicken fried steak tasted like it had been frozen and bought from a food company. The green beans tasted like they came from a can as well. I was very disappointed and I will not be going back. This place was supposed to be known for homemade Amish food but I could have gotten a better chicken fried steak from a big chain restaurant. Our friend had chicken and it looked really dry. Stopped here for lunch at the beginning of vacation. Food was very good. The bread for the table reminded my wife of bread her grandma made--we used to find a bread called English Muffin Bread that was similar. There were six of us at lunch. Fried chicken was very good, on the bone and very tender. Two had the country fried steak and enjoyed it. The turkey breast and grilled cheese were also well received. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs. Chocolate peanut butter pie, apple pie ala mode, and lemon meringue were yum! But, OMG, we got two of their GIANT cinnamon rolls to go with us. Didn't try until the next morning--but fantastic (but be ready for a rush of sugar energy, lol). Passing through as a Harvest Host stop (plenty of space for RVs in the big parking lot), dinner was the best meal we'd had in a long time; me the ham (w/mashed potatoes & bacon beans, and my wife the sirloin strip (cooked to perfection). Service was swift, the homemade warm bread w/honey butter, came quick and to finish we shared the fresh cherrie pie (be there early for the strawberry rhubarb..). The prices were super reasonable, a real bonus. While camped, the staff kindly filled our water jugs and even provided a couple bags of ice (free), from their kitchen. This was my first meal visiting Kansas for the first time. I knew I had to manage my expectations. I'm super bougie and am used to living and visiting cities with vibrant culinary scenes. I knew I had to manage my expectations but I was pleasantly surprised by the food here. Do I truly believe that everything is made from scratch? Absolutely not. However, the combination of items made for a satisfying meal that left me pretty full for the rest of the 2 hour long car ride from the airport to the small town I was visiting. The hot roast beef sandwich is a carb bomb that will satisfy the glutton living inside of you. Was the roast beef the best I've ever had? No. It was a bit dry and bland but it was sandwiched between amazing homemade bread and doused in brown gravy. Serving mashed potatoes with this is something I can't comprehend but hey it's the Midwest, so I just went with it. My bf loved his chicken fried chicken. It was perfectly cooked, seasoned and the white gravy was pretty good. We had pies and they were so-so. I don't believe the crust was homemade and while they tasted ok, there was too much. They are so rich, I couldn't get through even half of it. None of us did. The three of us could have shared a pie. Service was good, even if the servers are a bit short. Still friendly but not lingering if that makes sense. More what do you want, good, ok, bye. Was good for us though as we had to get on the road. The dining room reminds me of food halls from the 80's. Not my scene but again, I wasn't expecting much. I will say I though the place was a little dirty but we may have come after a big rush so I won't hold it against them. I love places like this. The food is fantastic, the service is great and the place looks like a quaint country store.

As a place known for its pies, I would expect nothing but an amazing product. We recently were passing through and bought a peanut butter pie. It looked fantastic! But we couldn't see its hidden secrets until we got home to sample it..... It tasted fresh, crust was decent, no issues there. But the two best things of a peanut butter pie were dismal. The custard tasted ok, a little bland, but the main problem? It was full of lumps. Like grape-sized little dough nuggets. Yuck. On top of that, the taste of peanut butter was all but non-existent. Upon closer inspection, I think I spotted some peanut butter underneath everything. Like, maybe an 1/8" layer underneath it all. Overall, the pie tasted like barely sweet meringue. It was uninteresting, and even nasty as you encountered lumpy custard. Save your time and money, find one of the locals who set up during the fair season or just go to Spears. Kinda bums me out, because stopping by here on the way home from the fair was a tradition, but no more. Tsk. read more

I came here as a recommendation. It's right off the freeway. This place is huge and very busy. The people here are so nice and customers service driven. There are real Amish people who work here and live in the area. There is a little store attached to the restaurant. We had 7 people in our party and they were able to put two tables together. We ordered a family feast. You are able to order refills of the food. You can tell they make everything fresh and portions are very generous. The fried chicken was very crunchy. I really loved the overall experience. We were visiting family and it felt like we were at a family member's house. They have a rule you can not take leftovers home. I really don't know why but that's the rule. They do let you take your dessert a piece of piece home. Everything is amazing here highly recommend. read more

Two stars. Me, my mother, and my grandmother went here for breakfast. My grandmother received an undercooked pancake. She asked for a new one and they just slapped the bitten into pancake back onto the grill. Thankfully the waitress was nice enough to give her a refund on the pancake. Sadly, nothing on Carriage Crossing's menu is worth ordering with the exception of the bakery items. I've ordered The Country Fried Steak with Sweet Potatoes and Fries, it was horrible, the Country Fried Steak looked and tasted like it was store bought and the sweet potatoes were rotten. The service is perfect for the most part, but the ambiance looks like a prison cell as the restaurant on the inside looks like a prison instead of an actual restaurant, it was pure trash. The only thing worth it in this restaurant is the bakery, that was it. Hate to say it but I'm not coming back there again, such a disgrace to country cooking. In other words, Stroud's Restaurant And Bar had way much better food and ambiance then this sad excuse for country cooking. I highly suggest heading to Strouds instead of Carriage Crossing, it may be in Wichita, but it's way more faithful to southern origin then this. Very well known restaurant serving home cooked meals by the local Amish community. Lunch isn't served until 11 so if you want fried chicken you'll have to wait. So because we were too early for lunch, we just got a cinnamon roll. And it is huuuuge. And better after you pop it in the microwave for about 30 seconds. read more

Outstanding restaurant ! My friends and I were in town for a hunting trip. We had breakfast at Carriage Crossing almost every morning. Really, really good food. I even brought half of a banana cream pie home, along with two jars of preserves from the little store in front. Will be back next year for sure. read more

Food was hearty, well served and hot. Service was great even with our long table of 14 people, we were treated as guests. The menu was full of country style favorites and very reasonable prices. The large open dining room was clean and bright. The simple and subtle appointments reinforced this was carriage country. The huge cinnamon rolls were the size of 8" tires! We enjoyed the meal and left room for pie. Gotta save room for the pie! The gift shoppe was well designed and had country style home goods balanced all over the area. Visited for my birthday dinner. Hubby and I both ordered the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes and glazed carrots. We also shared a fried okra appetizer. The okra was a HUGE portion and was hot and crispy! Delicious! I'm not really a carrot lover but these were so tender....practically melted in the mouth....good! The mashed potatoes were creamy with just the right amount of chunks. The gravy was delicious! The chicken fried chicken was just a tad disappointing. It was kind of dry...overcooked, maybe? The gravy helped but it just wasn't the best. It could be that it just wasn't the thing to order. Took a slice of coconut cream pie home. Enjoyed with a cup of coffee and it did not disappoint!
