Ham & Cheese omelette with Home Fries and a biscuit
    Jorge V.

Stopped in for breakfast at Carriage Crossing and ordered the egg and ham omelette with a side of home fries (they call 'em fries here, haha). The omelette was decent but a little burnt on the edges--nothing major, but noticeable. The home fries , though? They totally saved the day--crispy and buttery..well-seasoned, and just what I needed. Overall, solid home-style spot in Amish country with friendly service and that classic comfort vibe. I'd go back for the pies or cinnamon rolls next time and maybe give the breakfast another shot. Worth a stop if you're in the area!

What a charming restaurant! I found this jewel on Yelp, searching for a local bakery on our road trip through Kansas. Both my husband and I got eggs à la carte and shared their massive cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was delicious along with my scrambled egg.

There is always a super friendly and caring environment when we come to Carriage Crossing. We came around 5pm and it seemed really busy outside but when we went inside we were seated immediately. It was a slightly longer wait for our food but not too long. The bacon cheeseburger was good but not amazing, the buns and topping were very good. The mashed potatoes and cream gravy were honestly the highlight for me. They were warm, smooth and flavorful. They did add an order of fries to the check that we didn't order but they were not bad. The shop they have is very fun to look around at and the cinnamon rolls here are VERY good. Definitely a highlight of this place. The prices for food are all very reasonable and fair, definitely on the lower end for eating out. Overall this is such a fun place to come to and will continue to come here for years to come.

Amish yeasty bread and cinnamon butter.

Excellent choice for our lunch. I had the hot turkey sandwich with gravy on the Amish homemade bread. I only regretted I could not eat all the bread. Before the meal we had a loaf of the bread with cinnamon butter. Oh my , should have stopped there. Another in our party had had the hot beef sandwich and she said the beef was very tender. I got the peach/pecan pie slice to go and it was soo good later, much later! Cost was super reasonable, would definitely go again. Just wish it was closer to OKC! The service was quick and attentive. Dress was casual.

Probably the best cherry pie I've ever had in my life! The perfect crust and sweetness. Could have done without biting down on a couple cherry pots but still worth it!! The cinnamon roll was huge and very fresh.... And my small slice of apple pie was great! I highly recommend this restaurant and bakery!!

Passing through as a Harvest Host stop (plenty of space for RVs in the big parking lot), dinner was the best meal we'd had in a long time; me the ham (w/mashed potatoes & bacon beans, and my wife the sirloin strip (cooked to perfection). Service was swift, the homemade warm bread w/honey butter, came quick and to finish we shared the fresh cherrie pie (be there early for the strawberry rhubarb..). The prices were super reasonable, a real bonus. While camped, the staff kindly filled our water jugs and even provided a couple bags of ice (free), from their kitchen. Hospitality at its finest!

My second time here and just like the first the food was great. Nothing better than a family style dinner with business associates!

Always a family favorite! Chicken fried chicken is the best as well as the sausage. Can't go wrong with anything from their breakfast menu.

They're open from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Thursday, and Friday, and until 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Saturday. They're closed on Sundays. After a long day on the road traveling from Las Cruces, New Mexico, to Salina, Kansas, we arrived around 6:00 p.m. on a Monday evening. We were more than ready for a break. We had found Carolyn's Essenhaus on Yelp, and from the photos and reviews, it looked like just the kind of place we were hoping to find. Inside, the restaurant was much larger than we expected. The dining room was filled with local artwork, charming Kansas memorabilia, comfortable tables and booths, and a classic salad bar prominently displayed in the center. Table service was friendly, warm, and welcoming--like enjoying dinner in your grandmother's kitchen. My wife ordered the chopped steak topped with cheese and grilled onions, served with green beans and sweet potato fries. I chose one of the local favorites, essentially a hearty patty melt featuring a grilled burger, grilled onions, and a thick slice of grilled ham. Both entrées were excellent, but the real star of the meal was the salad bar--especially if you appreciate an old-fashioned, homemade selection. It instantly reminded me of family potlucks with all my aunts and uncles. There was macaroni salad, cottage cheese, potato salad, broccoli raisin salad, a sweet and creamy chopped cucumber salad, and plenty of other homemade favorites. It was so good that I went back for a second small plate and happily told our server to charge me for the extra trip. To finish the meal, we couldn't resist taking two slices of their homemade coconut cream pie to go. It was every bit as delicious as the rest of the meal. Before heading out, we picked up a few of their homemade cookies from the front counter, paid what we thought was a very reasonable bill, and continued our journey with full stomachs and smiles. If your travels ever take you near Arlington, Kansas, do yourself a favor and make time for Carolyn's Essenhaus. It's the kind of place that reminds you why small-town restaurants are often the most memorable stops on any road trip.

None of my issues were with them, they were great. The interior was a bit dated and there was a slight musty smell when you came in. Not to mention that they share bathrooms with the gas station next door which did NOT smell great at all. They had a very extensive menu...almost too much. I honestly don't remember what my meal was called but it was shaved beef on toast with mashed potatoes and gravy all over everything. The mashed potatoes were definitely dehydrated prior and the best thing about it was the gravy which still wasn't that great. My husband got the cheesesteak and he said it was just ok. Not a horrible experience but not the best. I hope they treat their waitstaff well because that would be the only reason I returned!

She was really nice and sweet. I was delighted to see that they had fried green tomatoes, I guess with homemade ranch dressing. So I ordered that as an appetizer, and I also ordered chicken 'parmesan' as my main dish. She brought me my drink, and took my order. I sat waiting for my appetizer to come out, but all of my food came at once. She apologized that the cooks cooked my order together. Didn't really matter to me, I know they are getting close to closing. The fried green tomatoes were off the hook! Their ranch dressing was pretty good too. The tomatoes were nice and thick, and just perfect overall. My chicken parmesan, was all chicken, no parmesan. Didn't have any cheese whatsoever, but that's not a big deal to me. The chicken was fried perfect. It was so good, and the pasta is just basic spaghetti. I ordered it with extra sauce, but they didn't give me extra sauce but whatever. The inside is pretty spacious, it has nice decorum, and I guess they have buffets on sunday? I don't expect to ever be in that area again. So I guess I'll never know, but I do recommend if you're hungry, it's a great little spot to eat.

We sat in the dining area, the fireplace on one wall is really aesthetic, otherwise it's a quaint, clean, hole-in-the-wall establishment... motorcycle parking up front (wish we'd brought our bikes). Hubby ordered a beer, it arrived in a frosty cold mug, just like he likes it. Also, as per tradition, fried mushrooms. As for food, he got a cheeseburger with seasoned fries and I got wings(enough to share) in mild sauce and sweet potato fries with sea salt. Our server was also the one preparing the food, he wore gloves, he worked quick, and was friendly. The workers talk to you like you're their neighbor, and everyone seems in a pretty good mood. Now on to the food...I am often jealous of my husband's selection, this is no exception. His burger looked like something your dad makes for Memorial Day, family picnics, and the 4th of July. It is thick and juicy, and I'd like to tell you that it tasted as good, but honestly, my husband didn't share. LOL He says I only needed to ask. I did try the fries, seasoned is DEFINITELY the way to go! YUM! HOWEVER, my wings were not missing a beat, they were delicious, fresh, and the sauce was super good. My sweet potato fries were excellent. The best part, with appetizer, three beers, and both our dinners, we still got out of there for less than $40. Overall, would definitely go back, very pleased with service, food, cleanliness, and cost. I definitely recommend you stop in.
