My daughter was married last Saturday, 10/5, at Early Mountain Vineyard. One of the vendors they recommended was Carpe Donut. Best rec ever! The owner, Matt, is amazingly friendly and responsive. He answers the phone himself and is warm, engaging and funny! Gotta love a vendor with a sense of humor! In terms of product quality, his donuts were delicious! Donuts are my #1 favorite 'unhealthy' food and I'm picky. I will take one bite and reject a bad donut. His were wonderful and many guests expressed the same to me. Several guests took home 'to go' boxes of donuts which was incredibly generous and kind of Matt. If you're hosting any type of event, I'm positive it will be enhanced by Carpe Donut! I got this at the Fall Fiber Festival at Montpelier. This hot apple cider was delicious in warm and cold weather. Worth the price for the quality at $3. I sipped this and wish I had more. I find it hard to think of something better than piping hot fresh made donuts. Carpe Donut hits the spot. It's a food truck, but they also have a physical location on 1715 Allied Lane. They only make one kind of donut, with apple cider. The ingredients are organic and they are truly delicious. We went on a thursday afternoon and the young lady that helped us made them right in front of us. They were fluffy, not too sweet, slightly dusted with cinnamon and sugar, and you could taste a hint of the apple cider. Back home in Virginia and knew I had to try Carpe Donut! Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places, but I am hard pressed to find a good apple cider donut in LA. I stopped by Carpe Donut at the Charlottesville City Market and it did not disappoint: DONUTS: as other reviews have mentioned, Carpe Donut is not like your typically run of the mill donut shop. The donuts are smaller, and not as dense or sweet as other donuts you've had. WHICH I LOVE! I got an apple cider donut and was in love at first bite. The outside of the donut has a crisp sugar coating, and the donut actually tastes like apple cider. The texture is light and fluffy. Downed it in about 3 bites and had to stop myself from going back for another! I wish I had taken a picture, but I was too hungry! The donut itself was $2. If you don't care for apple cider donuts, they did have other donut flavor options but I was here for the apple cider donut! Also worth mentioning that they use organic ingredients for their donuts. COFFEE: $3 for a pretty strong iced coffee, which was necessary on a hot summer day. The coffee was good and strong, and they had half and half behind their stand as well. But if you'd like a delicious mid morning treat, a fresh, soft piece of goodness, this is the place to find it. The donut was soft and had just a tiny crunch on the edges; something you wouldn't think would enhance the donut experience. It had just enough sweet, cinnamon-sugar coating, so it didn't make a mess as you enjoyed every bite. They are on the small side, but get two, three or a dozen! It was a year ago when we first had the pleasure of devouring Carpe Donut's tasty apple cide donuts at our friends' wedding. In lieu of a wedding cake, they had hired the folks at Carpe Donut to make fresh apple cider donuts for all their guests...as many as they could eat. I was the first one in line, and at the end of the wedding I was the last one in line. That night the donut maker even packed half a dozen donuts in a to-go bag for this pastry loving fatboy. I loved these donuts so much could not wait until trying their tasty treats again... Flash back to the present, due to work and other travel commitments were weren't able to pay a visit to the Carpe Donut store for a year. In that time I had to satisfy my love of baked goods with other pastry treats (cupcakes, cakes, pies...you name it, I ate it). We finally had a chance to head down to Charlottesville and drove straight to the Carpe Donut "factory". The Carpe Donut location is somewhat hidden in the middle area of a shopping/industrial park. You'll see the Great Harvest Bread from the road, and if you drive too quickly through their parking lot (after passing Great Harvest), you might miss Carpe Donut. Heading inside there's a small three seat table near the counter where a member of the Carpe Donut staff will happily take your order. The lady at the counter happily took our donut order. Soon we had a nice bag full of hot and tasty apple cider donuts. I couldn't help myself and all manners were thrown out the window as I plunged my chubby hand into the donut bag. I immediately shoved this warm donut into my mouth and closed my eyes. Yep, the same and just as tasty as I remembered them to be. As I shoved the remnants of that first donut into my mouth, I then offered the wife and kids a donut. Afterall, everyone knows that when you drive for hours just to eat a delicious apple cider donut, you need to let the guy with a nickname of "Cupcakes" eat first. :-) BTW, make sure you eat these fresh! I've also seen the cart next to the Pavilion during Friday's After Five (local concert series). If you are wandering near the Downtown Mall on a Friday, stop by!! There is only one kind of donut: apple cider cake donut, but it's worth it because of its great taste and eco-friendlyness. The donuts are made of organic flour, eggs, and local apple cider and are fried in soybean oil. YUM! I think they also recycle the oil after it's done... it's so awesomely granola. Just look for C'ville Coffee and turn into the parking lot right before the building. Carpe Donut is a cozy little room, with one guy manning the cash register and the glazing of the donuts. I ordered one maple glazed donut and three sugar donuts. The sugar donuts were piping hot inside of a bag, and the maple glazed donut was handed to me. I devoured the maple donut like no one's business. The glaze was delicious, and the donut itself was incredible. Soft, slightly springy, and delicious. Probably one of the better donuts I've ever had. I ate one the next day, and while good, nothing compares to how that donut tasted fresh out of the proverbial oven. So good. We went with Carpe for our wedding dessert and the day after breakfast event in Orange VA. They were truly a pleasure to work with. The guests LOVED their food for both days. The service was also impeccable. I am very stingy to give out five stars but this place deserves it. I go here way too much but it it is incredible. If you go on Saturday morning you can get donuts fresh out of the deep fryer. My favorite is an ice cream doughnut. But to save time they are now prefreezing the donuts and ice cream together. I can't even review this place right now without practically hopping out of my seat and driving there full speed to grab a donut. I used to live literally right above Carpe Donut, and the aroma would fill my nose each morning as I woke up and walked outside to head to work. I ordered a dozen quite a few times to take to family or to events, and each time I got MORE than a dozen given to me in the box. Generous people, I tell ya. Also super friendly each time I've been to the small location in McIntire Plaza. Also, their truck is always at Friday's After Five so if you're in need of a donut while you're dancing around to free music, then look no further. They've also come to my church on Easter with their truck which was a fantastic way to celebrate the holiday. They may only have one main flavor (cinnamon sugar apple cider donut), but that one main flavor is all you need. Plus, they are organic, so you don't have to feel bad about eating them. I mean, they are basically a health food (not really, but still). They taste good hot or cold, and even better with a little cup of savory cocoa. Try the smallest size-it is rich enough I promise. At $1.25, you can't not try one. Delicious hot "cake-style" donuts (not raised donuts) made with organic ingredients--the smell alone gets your party riled up and that's before they even take a bite out of the "rings of heaven". My daughter engaged the truck for her recent Vineyard wedding at her father's request. He comes from a long line of donut bakers in New England so it seemed like the perfect match for the wedding celebration. And deliver they did! People are still talking about it and I'm still dreaming about the donuts. Luckily enough, they were just rated the #1 donut truck in NYC so I'm going to scout them out in the City shortly. We drove 60 miles for their apple cider donuts and were not disappointed! The staff is kind and friendly and talked to us for awhile. They even gave us a free Fro-Do (donut ice cream sandwich) to try. Its a very small space. There's just one table and three stools inside and only one kind of donut.
