I find it hard to think of something better than piping hot fresh made donuts. Carpe Donut hits the spot. It's a food truck, but they also have a physical location on 1715 Allied Lane. They only make one kind of donut, with apple cider. The ingredients are organic and they are truly delicious. We went on a thursday afternoon and the young lady that helped us made them right in front of us. They were fluffy, not too sweet, slightly dusted with cinnamon and sugar, and you could taste a hint of the apple cider. They also make coffee drinks, hot cider, and they have an awesome hot chocolate. It's worth the little detour.

Tasty tasty donut goodness!

Why did we drive TWO hours to Charlottesville, VA? For a deliciously hot apple cider donut made by Carpe Donut. That's why!! My love affair with Carpe Donut's donuts started a year ago. Join me as we go down fatboy memory lane. Watch your step, there's icing and sugar all around this place... It was a year ago when we first had the pleasure of devouring Carpe Donut's tasty apple cide donuts at our friends' wedding. In lieu of a wedding cake, they had hired the folks at Carpe Donut to make fresh apple cider donuts for all their guests...as many as they could eat. Can you say apple cider donut BUFFET!! **wipes away drool** Anyway, the donuts were SO amazing that I stuffed my fat face with an embarrassingly large number of fresh donuts. I was the first one in line, and at the end of the wedding I was the last one in line. That night the donut maker even packed half a dozen donuts in a to-go bag for this pastry loving fatboy. I loved these donuts so much could not wait until trying their tasty treats again... Flash back to the present, due to work and other travel commitments were weren't able to pay a visit to the Carpe Donut store for a year. In that time I had to satisfy my love of baked goods with other pastry treats (cupcakes, cakes, pies...you name it, I ate it). We finally had a chance to head down to Charlottesville and drove straight to the Carpe Donut "factory". The Carpe Donut location is somewhat hidden in the middle area of a shopping/industrial park. You'll see the Great Harvest Bread from the road, and if you drive too quickly through their parking lot (after passing Great Harvest), you might miss Carpe Donut. Heading inside there's a small three seat table near the counter where a member of the Carpe Donut staff will happily take your order. The lady at the counter happily took our donut order. Soon we had a nice bag full of hot and tasty apple cider donuts. I couldn't help myself and all manners were thrown out the window as I plunged my chubby hand into the donut bag. I immediately shoved this warm donut into my mouth and closed my eyes. Yep, the same and just as tasty as I remembered them to be. As I shoved the remnants of that first donut into my mouth, I then offered the wife and kids a donut. Afterall, everyone knows that when you drive for hours just to eat a delicious apple cider donut, you need to let the guy with a nickname of "Cupcakes" eat first. :-) BTW, make sure you eat these fresh! If you do take some home, do NOT warm them up in the microwave. Be patient and warm them up slowly in a toaster over. Trust me, these donuts still tasty the next day.... **drools again**

Carpe Donut is a donut cart that sits in the parking lot behind Wachovia on the Charlottesville Downtown Mall on Fridays. I've also seen the cart next to the Pavilion during Friday's After Five (local concert series). If you are wandering near the Downtown Mall on a Friday, stop by!! There is only one kind of donut: apple cider cake donut, but it's worth it because of its great taste and eco-friendlyness. The donuts are made of organic flour, eggs, and local apple cider and are fried in soybean oil. YUM! I think they also recycle the oil after it's done... it's so awesomely granola. The apple cider gives these cake donuts a fantastic flavor that is not too overwhelming. The guy even rolled it around in cinnamon/sugar right in front of me after pulling it from the fryer. Ahhh! The best!

Oh how we miss your sweet embrace. Your warm fresh sweets with sometimes gooey insides. We waited all summer only to have less than a week left before you unleash your web upon us. Looking forward to it and another fall & winter of your tasty concoctions. Grubs ~

So small, not worth $1.50.

It's not an actual donut store, its a catering business. So disappointing we were expecting a real donut store.

The outside of the donut has a crisp sugar coating, and the donut actually tastes like apple cider.

As usual, I'm looking for the best coffee roaster to go to, and Lone Light Coffee was on the top of my list in this area. The coffee shop is on the smaller side, but it was warm and comfortable. The baristas were nice and three of them gave me their input on which single origin I should choose for my pour-over. POUR-OVER - MKT Price +6.50 for Mohammed Aba Nura - Ethiopia (tasting notes: Strawberry, white chocolate, hazelnut) I wanted the craziest tasting option they had, and they recommended this one since it's pretty popular and well-liked among customers. However, one of the barista said he didn't really like it himself. I figured I should still try it. The sips I had while it was still warm was pretty juicy and sweet, but I really didn't like the notes once it cooled down (about 20 minutes later), which tasted sour and off-putting. I should have listened to that one barista and went with a different single origin option. Overall, good roaster -- just unfortunate that I tried something that wasn't for me. The baristas seem knowledgeable and passionate about their craft. I would love to come back next time and try another single origin offering.

Excellent coffee and tea in downtown Charlottesville. The quality of the coffee beans paired with…read moreartfully crafted espresso drinks is probably the best in the city. The baristas are excellent at making coffee, friendly, and the seasonal drinks are creative. They have a cardamom syrup that's delicious in lattes. The shop itself is very cute, with a handful of tables and stools at the counter. There's a couple of tables outside too. I wouldn't recommend trying to get work done here during a busy time since it's not a huge space.

I saw online that they did empanadas and coffee (what could be better?) and we knew we had to visit. We live in Indianapolis and visit Che Chori often for empanadas, so we wanted to try Cumbre's breakfast options. I got the sweet corn + cheese, my husband got the ham + cheese, and we each got a breakfast bacon + eggs. I loved them both equally, but if I really had to choose one over the other, then I would say the sweet corn + cheese was my favorite because I love anything corn. They were the perfect temperature to bite into, we didn't have any trying to ooze out everywhere, and they were so flavorful! I also grabbed us each a Dulce de leche pastry and I thought it was the perfect balance for being a treat while not being overly sweet. My husband said he thought it was very sweet, but I thought that the pastry part was not sweet at all, so the dulce de leche filling in the middle balanced it out nicely. I also ordered a matcha latte and got a caramel latte for my husband. The 2 men on staff were very friendly and the patio was fairly busy when we stopped in. We opted to eat in the car on our way to the park so we could get to our hike faster, but I would love to stop here again and sit outside in the sun should we ever be back in Charlottesville.
