I had very unpleasant experience with this business. I used to buy rye bread which is really delicious and always fresh. One day, l ordered some cupcakes for a birthday party. I ordered it blindly not even every trying the taste. I took 2 cupcakes home to taste it. We realized that we didn't like them at all. We tried to change order immediately to different flavor but the place was closed already. When l got there first thing in the am, the employee said that the owner said not to sell anything to me and said "bye, have a good life". I just couldn't believe the way she spoke to me. It was very unprofessional and unpleasant. She said no one ever complained about their cupcakes. read more

Small bakery in town that has been here forever. I use it to run in and get bread and bagels for my family when Im in a rush and can't get to my favorite places I frequent. I have bought a couple cakes here and they seemed fresh. Is it the best in the area, no but it is a small shop that carries a decent variety of items. Service can be very slow at times even with only 4 people waiting. They do a decent amount of business. This is one of my favorite bakery's here in Metuchen. We moved into this beautiful town just before my sons 1st birthday and scrambled to find a delicious cake which was reasonably priced. We hit the jackpot!!! The cake was made to perfection and the flavor was phenomenal! I will use this bakery for all our future events! You have to try them!!! I order my fresh bread here. It's very good. The customer service is average. They have a couple of younger girls working there who are nice, but don't seem to know very much. They open early (6am) and always have a wide variety of fresh baked breads in stock. I love to order wheat bread and they are one of the few bakeries in the area that bake it regularly. The deserts are also really good. If you come in knowing what you want, you will be happy. If you aren't sure what you want or have questions, don't expect much from the help. read more

I'm afraid I was not impressed. The woman who waited on me was very nice but I'm pretty sure the pastries and tea biscuits I bought were stale. Biscotti was not great. Not dense or hard the way they should be. Very few bakers make biscotti the way they should be made. They seem to be afraid of making them too hard. I was in the area so gave this place a try. Would definitely use this bakery again for a custom cake! I brought in a picture of a cake I liked for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary and they duplicated it almost perfectly. I only wished the decorative icing was more of a shiny gold rather than the yellowish gold, but it was beautiful! Delicious too! This place is the definition of a small town bakery. Locals know its the place to go for fresh, homemade products at a great price. Almost everything they sell, with the exception of the bagels and and a few of the small strudel stick pastries, are made on premises. The bread is super fresh and made every morning, if you stop in early enough you may catch some hot rolls or tea biscuits fresh out of the oven. The tea biscuits are actually tiny soda breads and for some reason my grandma (and pretty much every other elderly person I've given them to) loves them. The bread is a total standout here, and the prices are extremely reasonable for a great product. If you're looking for a cake, they sell 8 inch round cakes in a variety of delicious flavors. They will also write on them free of charge, which is great if you're in a rush to a party. The strawberry shortcake is a personal favorite, white or chocolate cake with light, fresh whipped cream frosting and strawberry preserves that are made in house. The chocolate cheesecake is my mom's favorite, and its unlike any cake you'll find anywhere else. Its a whole 6 inch cheesecake sandwiched between two layers of chocolate cake, chocolate buttercream and ganache frosted. We've had to get this one for several birthday parties, its always a hit. The other pastries and tiny cake bites found along the bottom of the cake case display are great if you can't decide on a whole cake. Try the cream puffs, they're filled with a mix of vanilla custard and whipped cream which results in a light, unique flavor. The cookies are also very good, if a tad on the pricier side per pound. The cupcakes are good but very simple. They're worth it to try the buttercream icing. Go for the doughnuts, made every morning. My aunt is a huge fan of the custard filled powder, while I'm partial to the cinnamon sugar jelly. The black and white cookies are not what you'd normally find in a bakery, they're flat cupcakes frosted with buttercream and chocolate fudge. Once you try these, you won't be able to go back to those shiny, hard frosted ones you find at other bakeries. If all this isn't enough to get you to try, they also take custom orders for cakes (including wedding cakes) and orders for cookie trays, pastry assortments, and bread. At Carousel, they're not re-inventing the wheel on baked goods. Expect to find high quality, simple bakery fare thats flavorful and well priced. read more

Pretty good, bagel is soft and crunchy, didn't really have their baked goods. Overall clean, polite and worth trying.

I ordered cookies for my baby shower and was not happy. I gave them pictures and walked through the order in detail. I wanted the cookies in specific shapes. Some of the shapes they had cookie cutters for and others they didn't. We agreed that the ones that they didn't have cookie cutters for they would just make the design on a round cookie. Turns out they did all of them on a round cookie, which is not what I wanted. When I picked up the cookies and voiced my concern, the lady was a bit rude saying that if I didn't want them, they would just sell them. She also stated that I called the day before saying I didn't want them, which is absolutely false. She also said she didn't take the order, in order words, she didn't want to hear what I was saying. At the end, she did discount them at least but the cookies weren't even that great. Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend. In response to Business response: I did not say I was going to cancel my event, I said i was going to move it to Sunday so I wanted to pick up my order on Sunday instead of Saturday. Then the lady told me that it didn't matter because the cookies were made well in advance not the day of. So I said ok, I'll pick up Sat. The problem maybe is that your staff doesn't listen or speak English well and you as the owner should maybe be there more often instead of blaming the customers. Moreover, you are correct in your statement about the email, however, that email was at the very beginning of me just showing you examples of what I was looking for. Then I spoke to someone after that email directly who went into detail on my order. In fact, when I went to pick up the order the lady showed me the written order, which stated Carriage, onsies, crown on circle. That represented that the only one that was on the circle was the crown. The others were the shape. To be honest, every time I called it was someone else answering calls and questions. How do you know who I spoke to and what was final arrangement? You go off of an email that was my very initial convo to see if your bakery even did something like what I was looking for. In the end, you did discounted it because it wasn't what I ordered, don't act like you did me a favor. I still paid 45 for 18 cookies that I didn't like. In the end, you lost a customer, because I would have rather you say we made an error and paid full price then me pay a discount and get rude customer service. But I guess that's how you run your business. read more

I used this bakery for years & years as they had the very best products, delicious, never stale always fresh excellent products. I always purchased their cakes for our office parties & meetings. I hadn't patronized them in quite some time as I had retired & was trying to stay away from sweets but I recently (last Oct.) had the need of bringing some dessert to a large party and went out of my way to go there for a few pounds of cookies. I was shocked beyond belief when I inquired the price of 2 pounds of mixed cookies and was told it was $30.00!....???? These were the cookies you see in any store that are on a cardboard tray and piled into a pyramid then wrapped in colored cellophane tied with curling ribbon at the top....30 dollars????...I think not!. I viewed other items and the prices were unbelievably unrealistic...high beyond belief. I don't know what happened or why they chose to raise their prices extremely high but I certainly won't be back there, and by the way a few days later I stopped in Best Market and the same exact cookies were $13.00.... read more

So far I've had a mini cannoli and a cream filled donut covered in powdered sugar on 2 separate visits. Each time I am dreaming about going back the next day and the next day after that.
