We went to Carolina Wings a couple times while we were in town and both times the service was slow. We had to wave our waitress down several times to get drinks and order items. The food is pretty good. We enjoyed the appetizer sampler and really didn't need to order more than that for 2 people. The fried mushrooms and ranch are a must have. Skip the Philly cheesesteak. Wings, wings wings. It seems that every time I return to SC, my diet consists mostly of chicken wings, and on this visit, it was no different. We had a reservation at the Lexington location and, upon arriving, we found that our table for 15 had been mistakenly given to another party. Apparently, this party made their reservation at a DIFFERENT Carolina Wings location, but showed up at the Lexington location. To the restaurant's credit, they recognized the error and QUICKLY recovered by giving my family their own room and private server. GOOD CALL!!! It was great that my family was able to get together privately and enjoy a meal. The food was FANTASTIC!!! Our server, although super friendly, seemed super overwhelmed, so his attentiveness lacked. We have been eating at this Carolina wings weekly for a year. We get the same thing every time. Today we got our nacho appetizer and it was half the size. Keep in mind we just ate here Wednesday. We asked our waitress if this was a full size and she said no. She came back with them and said she was informed it was the new serving size. He also said they were running low on chips!?! This is a decent place to go for wings. The carolina dry rub was recommended and I thought it was the best. The restaurant itself appeared open like a cafeteria. Have it your way? NO WAY! My husband and I arrived at a little before 5pm on Wed. We were seated in a booth in the dining area. The restaurant was empty except for about 4 people at the bar. Nicole took our drink order and soon returned with drinks and took our dinner order. I ordered the wing & tenders plate and my husband ordered the ribs and wings. He asked for boneless wings and Nicole said she would have to check. His request prompted me to also ask for boneless wings. She said ok to me then left to ask the manager about my husband's request. She returned with an answer of "No". My husband said he was ok with an up-charge to have boneless wings instead of regular wings. Nicole went back to the manager again. She returned with another "No". My husband asked for the check for our drinks and asked the manager to come to our table. The manager arrived and stated that there were no substitutions allowed due to it backing up the kitchen. Huh? Our order was probably the only one that the kitchen was going to have, at least from the dining room. She went on to explain that if they did this for one person, they would have to do it for everyone. My husband stated, "That's the restaurant business." She also said this rule is from the owner and said she was sorry, but that's the way it is. She said they reprinted the menus with "no substitutions" printed on it. Neither my husband nor I saw this on the menus. My husband informed her that we are new locals looking for a wing place and they have now lost our business. This statement didn't seem to phase the manager at all. My husband and I were both dumbstruck by the entire exchange. Why was it ok for me to substitute boneless wings and my husband couldn't-- not even for an up-charge? Why doesn't the manager understand that satisfying the customer is job #1? My husband's request was perfectly reasonable and do-able, especially since my substitution was allowed and the restaurant was not at all busy. We go to restaurants to have someone else prepare food for us the way we want it and then pay for it. It's a simple concept, but Carolina Wings only wants to do it their way and doesn't care if it's what the customer wants or not. If you are thinking of going to BWW or some other local joint for wings and beer, I would go here first. I wouldn't have any grand expectations here, but its consistent and tasty. Servers have always been attentive in the dining room, and bartenders have been nice to talk to and attentive also. The only thing that I could complain about would be the confusion at the host stand. More than once I have been walked all over the restaurant to multiple tables, with them looking super confused. This place is a joke. My husband described it as the worst dining experience he's ever had. First and last time at this place. We arrived around 7pm on a Friday night, were told the wait was 20 minutes. Headed to the bar for drinks. Bartender was great, attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. They have a large selection of beer on tap, they also have good wine selections. After sitting for 35 minutes I noticed two empty tables behind us, they remained empty for another 10 minutes. After a 50 minute wait we were finally sat at one of the tables that had been empty behind us. We then sat at our table for FIFTEEN minutes without a single waiter coming over to us. Finally our waitress came, we each ordered salads to start with and our wing entrees. Our salads came in 5 minutes, my caesar was good. My husband ordered the house salad with ranch dressing, there was no dressing with his salad. We asked the waitress THREE separate times for ranch, finally after 10 minutes she brought it, it was pre-packaged in a small tub, all she had to do was fish it out of a bowl and place it on our table, ridiculous. We watched our waitress stand around and talk to the bar back while we were waiting for the ranch, it was right there in front of her. When we ordered our wings I asked for two samples of sauce, then selected the hot, my husband got a sample of the cajun honey, liked it and ordered it. Finally our wings come and they taste nothing like the samples. My wings with "hot" sauce was much sweeter then the sample I had. My husbands was completely wrong. You could clearly see the difference in sauce color from the sample to what he actually got. We told a different waitress the problem and she promptly took his wings back to fix them. After 10 minutes they brought "new" wings...except my husband was fairly certain that they just took the same wings and then tossed them with the cajun honey sauce, at this point he was too hungry to send them back again so he ate them. We both ate because we were hungry, we did not enjoy our meals at all. While I went to the bathroom my husband ordered 1 Miller Light and 2 waters. The waitress came back with 2 Miller Lights and no waters. Go figure. We ask the waitress for the check, we notice she has charged us for 4 Miller Lights, we flag her down and tell her we only ordered 2 (my husband drank the mistake she brought because my god he needed a drink). She then asks us if we paid for the drinks we sat down with at the bar, I say yes we closed our tab before sitting down. She asked us a second time if we paid for the first two beers, I repeated yes. This really pissed me off, for her to assume we didn't pay and then just charge us for them. Not to mention the beers we sat down with were $6 IPAs not $3 Miller Lights. Note, the bathrooms are really small, I'm 5'5" and I felt like I was in an airplane bathroom. They were also dirty with trash all over the floor. The floors in the restaurant are also dirty, I felt like I was walking around a frat house the way my shoes stuck to the floor. The food here is terrible, the service is even worse. Holy Sh*t!! Moving down here from DC area gave me ample background on places with great ribs and wings, but this is the best I've ever had! Fall off the bones kinda' stuff. I've tried 3 of their 5 sauces for the ribs and 8 of their 20-something wing sauces so far and I'm going back to try them all (except their "Beyond Blistering" cuz I heard you won't walk right for up to 3 years after you eat it). For a Saturday night, the restaurant only had a hand full of customers. We ordered 2 wing chips and 24 wings. We only got 4 pieces of celery,1 blue cheese dressing and 1 ranch dressing....for 4 people. We had to ask for more dressing and plates that were never offered. When I inquired about types of mixed drinks they had, the "bartender" (Mike) seemed to have no clue on how to make any and had to refer to a "book" someone had made. I picked a drink out of the book and orderd 2. I don't think there was much alcohol in the drinks. The booth we originally were placed at had a sticky floor and the booth was so bad that one of the seats sank down a couple of inches lower then the middle part. We almost moved to the next booth, but that booth seat was so tapped up that we skipped that booth to the end booth. All in all, very disappointed in the service all the way up to the lights starting to turn off 5 minutes before they were suppose to close. This place use to rock, but I see why it doesn't anymore. We were watching the Carolina -Florida game and right in the beginning of 2nd quarter, the floor manager comes in and sits a table of 4 adults and 6 kids, and changes the channel. When my husband said we were watching it. He said there were other tv's. Those were not really in view. He could have easily changed one of the other sets that was closer to them, but no. The food quality has been going down hill for the past 2 years. The latest causality was the blu cheese and ranch dressings on the salad bar. I would not recommend this place to any looking for avg or above BBQ food. I used to eat here a lot, but after I don't think I'll ever go back. Service is at the lower end too, I seen our server talking on his cell phone when our we had been out of drinks for 7 minutes. Another note, it took close to 40 to get our order.
