His cousin was a race car driver and relatives and family friends made up the pit crew. That gave us unlimited access to the pit area. Dirt track racing has become a little bit more civilized since the old days. I've seen literally hundreds of fights in the pits! The competition between race car teams was personal and rough and for real! I saw the local great racing stars up close such as Mike Duvall, Freddie Smith, and Bill Blanton and Stick Elliot. These local racing stars are long gone but the memories of them linger. Cherokee Speedway still packs the fans in! Dirt Track racing is becoming a thing of the past and many tracks have permanently closed down.

I love the fact that they have sections marked for families, so basically the people who drink beer etc.. Have a section of their own and normally you won't see a lot of people drinking in the family section.. A few people do get a little rowdy when it comes to one of their favorite drivers wrecking or getting knocked out place but its actually funny to watch sometimes.

We didn't race for the money, we just did it because we loved it! Fast street cars of all kinds would gather every Sunday afternoon. They would be classified with their respective classifications written in white shoe polish on their windshields! Oh what a time in my history was this! Shady Side drag way is still in operation today and has made some very needed upgrades! I happened to be in the area today and just had to take that trip down memory lane! Highly recommend!

People were really friendly and they just had a great time. I felt pretty safe and parking wasn't too bad. Everyone had good attitude and good atmosphere. I would have rated this place five stars, but the second day we were there. There was several miles…read morelong of traffic and they were not directing people appropriately, from what I would have thought. The day before they told us we could go to the left side to pass everyone since we already had our passes. I believe the weekends they have the night ride is when it's super crowded like this. We had a lot of fun and there were thousands of people there. The only thing I did not like was like I said the traffic. They should've had a dedicated lane for people who already had passes although we rode past everyone as soon as we get off the highway on a two-lane road and we're able to get in after about 15 minutes there were people that had been in line for three hours that we actually knew that did not do what we did. So that's one downside. Another was ordering the food was quick, but it took 15 minutes for an order of fries to come out. There was only one line so that was another thing where they should've had it split and had two people on the register if possible, but other than that, it was an overall great experience. I would definitely go back, but maybe not during a weekend there is a night ride because it was so crowded. We decided to leave and not do the night ride which was the whole reason we actually had went Unfortunately, someone actually lost their life this past weekend while we were there. I'm not sure all of the details but I did see their body laying on the ground, which was a bit disturbing so I will not go into details out of respect for the person in their family. Another thing I noticed was that all of the other ATV places we've gone to there is a rule if you are on a four wheeler or dirtbike you have to have a helmet. Apparently this rule is not enforced here because there were several people who were on four wheelers and dirt bikes, and no one had on helmets! And the side-by-side or ATVs of course it's not required, but I would imagine being on a four wheeler or a dirtbike it's strictly enforced whether you're on a trail or on the road in the parking lot. And unfortunately, the person who lost their life was on a four wheeler and they did not have a helmet.

Leading up to that, we have seen some improvement to some of the trails but not all of them. Some of the trails are pretty much impassable at this point and could be closed. For this past Halloween duck hunt event, it was publicized as including an after ride party with live music. There was no live music either night, and the bar was not open. No liquor license renewed, so no bar. For some in our group, this was a major disappointment. They are currently looking at other options for holiday bookings for our riding group where more amenities will be consistently available.

FYI: "Cave" is an apt description because honestly, it looks a bit sketch pulling up the first time but it takes maybe twelve seconds to understand that the Slot Car Cave is totally relaxed and way friendly for all comers. the venue wasn't exactly planned (insert mid-length narrative here) and I really can't imagine it any other way; the facility has a certain je ne sais quoi - a hint of light machine oil, tiny electric arcs, and fine dust hang in the air. add four-place digital timing plus adjustable brakes and you're literally on the cool kids' race track in the garage next door. ...as a kid it was a big deal to get invited over so just like then try to make friends and play nice while you test your skill on an amazing double-extra-large circuit: two long straights, a high-banked turn and a couple flatter switch-back type things. the main track is in really good shape and the air is conditioned but the environment is not entirely controlled so you'll have to do a little work to stay in top racing form... but on the plus side you get to learn about cleaning and lubrication and electronics, and gearing, and frictions, and finances and other cool STEM-stuff. track time is a bargain precisely because the hours are limited, it's roughly the equivalent of throwing in to help with upkeep and repairs. rentals are available or bring your own car(s) and controller. there's a full service parts store on premises if you want/need to build, repair, or replace anything. staff and other racers are super friendly and want to help you live your best life (or at least the bits spent on the track) and the only improvement that is really needed here involves my ability to navigate the course.
